@Markytho The point is that not all games are available as ROMS online and have not yet been preserved in digital format. Myself and a few others are the ones actually creating the ROMS!
@C64endings Forgive me for my ignorance and I didn't know that, but now I come to think of it I remember trying to find the cassette version of Catalypse to no avail which I know was available in that format because I remember seeing it once on eBay as being pricey though I was a bit out-of-pocket at the time. You've sold me the 1541 Ultimate by your demonstration though but I see that you've got a cassette lead attached to the tape adapter so can I use this to back-up a la: DC2N?
@Markytho Unfortunately not. The tape adapter only allows you to play the original .TAP files - which are created by the DC2N for an original tape. But if there is anything you want, then just ask.
@C64endings Just ordered and paid for my Ultimate 1541 and I can't wait until I get it. I've asked for it over there at the website through the Wish List under my name of Mark Thompson.
On my C64, the even function numbers were not printed on the top of the keys. Only the odd numbers were on the top. The even numbers were printed on the front of the keys.
Or you could make a TAP out of the tape directly with the Ultimate Tape Extender, just plug in the datasette, close that jumper closest to the datassette connector and save it in the menu. But I guess you had already used the other gadget to make them. Doesn't hurt to take a tour to FinalTAP for a check and clean up. You should have no jumpers connected when loading from the microSD-card. The second jumper is only meant for future standalone mode.
What is the point of backing up software other than your own when it is available online as ROM

@C64endings
it's great to see people like yourself preserving this software. Just bought a second hand c64 and trying to get back into it.

What is the tape adaptor allowing you to do that you couldn't do with just the 1541 cart? Im struggling to follow.
Is it only needed to capture the TAP from original tape?
Do I need to tape adaptor to play back TAP files, I assumed the cart could do that just from the Flash card. Thanks
