Well I am neither NZ , AUS nor US citizen. But lived in all the 3 countries for a decade at least in each of these countries. If you are talking about making money offcourse, US is the biggest market and dominant political player in the world. But if you have good amount of money and want a good quality and peaceful life, then NZ is much better than US. Its safe,most parts are still in their natural pristine conditions.Specially the South Island. Australia has neither safety, beauty nor wealth.

Who cares about ansett it was a terrible liability and a burden to Air NZ in the end and now thankfully they are a thing of the past get over it. Air NZ is lovely. i always chose to fly Air NZ domestically and internationally including codeshare flights with another great airline such as Singapore :) good alliance there. Talk shit about ANZ and NZ all you like, it makes no difference to our booming tourism economy. Millions still flock here and wish to live here. My family have for 9 years :)

tourists love it nz and they do keep coming back i've spoken to heaps on their journies, especially these peoples from switzerland of all places!, i know i did when i first visited here and wanted to keep coming back because its so far away from anywhere else i hate europe its a total shithole compared to down under, aussies and kiwis live the great life i'm glad my folks made the migration lol!

everyone knew that air nz couldnt support ansett, the only reason they were allowed to buy ansett was because they held pre emptive rights to news corps half share, singapore would've been a GREAT buyer for ansett but air nz didnt think through the financial implications due to their lack of common sense, money management skills and business 'savvy', the takeover of ansett by air nz not only crippled ansett but also drove air nz onto the verge of collapse...
i don't know much of this ansett airlines but i have heard that they were well on their way to a collapse long before air nz bought them out. i think maybe it was a bad move on air nz's part they could had intentions on trying to save it but it just didn't work out for them perhaps. attack and hold a grudge all you like, but its in the past, time to move on now.

sia wanted to buy ansett as it would allow for easy access to the australian marketplace and thus direct competition with qantas, sia was also willing to restructure and inject capital into ansett, but on no, air nz had decided to adopt the infamous "get ansett at all costs attuitude", please explain to me how ansett was "rescued" by air nz when much larger cashed up airlines were out there ready and waiting to takeover ansett and make it a success again

Qantas are way more heritage respecting though, with the Qantas Founders Museum, Longreach. They found their very first jet, a 707 in a UK scrapyard and had it restored to fly back home. By sheer luck, the sole survivor of Air New Zealands first jet, a DC-8 is under threat of scrap. As the most isolated nation, this is a gem of our heritage and I've been trying to spark initiative to save it. It would be a drop in the bucket cost to them but they didnt even reply. Compares bad to Qantas work.

This ANZ ad is awful;-it is mostly of vidoe that gives an idea of crashing into terrain several times, followed by a depressing image of crying relatives.
I love New Zealand, but not the Air New Zealand. They always make mistakes! Few advises for passengers, double check your boarding pass, it may not be your ticket. Do not expect that you can quickly pick up your luggages after arrive, they may be in another city.
Mishandled baggage affects all airlines dipshit. You sort through thousands of bags each day with time pressure & let's watch you get it 100% correct all the time... it's impossible so grow up & quit being an ignorant fuck.

There are approximately 10,000 Air New Zeland staff & you decide to boycott the entire airline because of one person? The logical course of action would have been to make a formal complaint against that staff member & have it delt with that way. Air new zealand are shit, by far the worst in the world for not only what they did to ansett australia but fo the shit service they provide. They cant even give you a glass of water without stuffing it up.
I don't know what ANZ did to Ansett but let me just say the aviation industry is ruthless & only the fittest survive so Ansett can lick my sweaty, salty balls. For all those people that are saying Air NZ messed up Ansett, that is a load of rubbish put forward by certain individuals at Ansett that were themselves part of the reason Ansett collapsed. Ansett was a flying dog, it had old aircraft that needed to be replaced and which cost more to run.
It had no money and was in debt. Its crews (both cabin crew and pilots) cost more than their competitors and it had rediculous union requirements (eg requiring a 3rd crew member -engineer on 767 aircraft when it is a 2 person aircraft with no need for an engineer). The only reason why Air NZ bought Ansett in the first place was because the Australian Government broke its promise to allow Air NZ to fly in Australia (lobbying from Qantas and Ansett) so Air NZ was forced to buy Ansett or nothing.
If Air NZ had been allowed to set up Freedom in Australia as it had planned, it would have been like what Virgin Blue is now... a large and serious competitor to Qantas. Ansett would have died of its own doing as Singapore Airlines would have turned the purchase down after looking at the books.
Air NZ already had a share in Ansett and chose to purchase the controlling shared owned by News Corp.
The fact is that Air New Zealand took over a company in terrible condition that was larger than itself without the capital required to reform the poorly run company.
On top of that towards the end, they were refuelling ANZ planes and charging it to Ansett further pushing the airline into debt.
Gary Toomey was a complete waste of time and money. ANZ needs to held accountable for a purchase that almost bankrupted itself and required a gross amount of money from the government to stay afloat.
Air NZ had to buy that other 50% otherwise Singapore Airlines would have done so which would have defeated the point Air NZ buying Ansett in the first place.
Ansett was a messed up company that was going to go bust anyway. As for your completely inaccurate claim that ANZ was fuelling its planes and charging Ansett for it, that is a complete load of crap that was a rumour started by disgruntled former employees. The whole situation was reviewed by the Australian Government and no such fraud occured.

They did not have to purchase Ansett, they chose to. It was their ineptness that finally collapsed the airline, not the Australian government.

Well I am neither NZ , AUS nor US citizen. But lived in all the 3 countries for a decade at least in each of these countries. If you are talking about making money offcourse, US is the biggest market and dominant political player in the world. But if you have good amount of money and want a good quality and peaceful life, then NZ is much better than US. Its safe,most parts are still in their natural pristine conditions.Specially the South Island. Australia has neither safety, beauty nor wealth.

Who cares about ansett it was a terrible liability and a burden to Air NZ in the end and now thankfully they are a thing of the past get over it. Air NZ is lovely. i always chose to fly Air NZ domestically and internationally including codeshare flights with another great airline such as Singapore :) good alliance there. Talk shit about ANZ and NZ all you like, it makes no difference to our booming tourism economy. Millions still flock here and wish to live here. My family have for 9 years :)

Qantas are way more heritage respecting though, with the Qantas Founders Museum, Longreach. They found their very first jet, a 707 in a UK scrapyard and had it restored to fly back home. By sheer luck, the sole survivor of Air New Zealands first jet, a DC-8 is under threat of scrap. As the most isolated nation, this is a gem of our heritage and I've been trying to spark initiative to save it. It would be a drop in the bucket cost to them but they didnt even reply. Compares bad to Qantas work.

No two flights are the same, Air New Zealand staff are only human so the occassional mistake etc is inevitable.I think you are a stuck up brat who thinks the world revolves around you, well guess what it doesn't. In fact ive been on AirNZ domestic many times, i choose not to fly them because of my bad experiences, i think your comment was very egotistic and you should remember we are free to our own opinions and if you dont like mine well tough, Ive always supported AirNZ because its a NZ airline but constant bad service cant be ignored. Where do you get off criticising someones character when you dont know them, learn a bit of restraint in judgement of people and maybe your character can be improved.

Domestically at least you take your seat then you sit for not much more than an hour then you arrive at your destination, why is that so difficult for you to accept, is it because the staff didn't kiss your feet & bow to you that you hold such immature resentment?

No i didnt insinuate it, You wanna know y i dont fly them domestic, becoz the staff were extremely rude to a lady in front of me at Christchurch airport, the lady couldnt speak english very well they were condescending (similar to how your posts are to me) and bordering on racist. There are approximately 10,000 Air New Zeland staff & you decide to boycott the entire airline because of one person? The logical course of action would have been to make a formal complaint against that staff member & have it delt with that way. Ansett was baled out, given life support and nursed through a collapse.
It was an Australian election year for Howard... any major corporate collapse such as this would have caused havoc and the union action more-so.

For all those people that are saying Air NZ messed up Ansett, that is a load of rubbish put forward by certain individuals at Ansett that were themselves part of the reason Ansett collapsed. Ansett was a flying dog, it had old aircraft that needed to be replaced and which cost more to run.

It had no money and was in debt. Its crews (both cabin crew and pilots) cost more than their competitors and it had rediculous union requirements (eg requiring a 3rd crew member -engineer on 767 aircraft when it is a 2 person aircraft with no need for an engineer). The only reason why Air NZ bought Ansett in the first place was because the Australian Government broke its promise to allow Air NZ to fly in Australia (lobbying from Qantas and Ansett) so Air NZ was forced to buy Ansett or nothing.

If Air NZ had been allowed to set up Freedom in Australia as it had planned, it would have been like what Virgin Blue is now... a large and serious competitor to Qantas. Ansett would have died of its own doing as Singapore Airlines would have turned the purchase down after looking at the books.

The fact is that Air New Zealand took over a company in terrible condition that was larger than itself without the capital required to reform the poorly run company.

Gary Toomey was a complete waste of time and money. ANZ needs to held accountable for a purchase that almost bankrupted itself and required a gross amount of money from the government to stay afloat.

Ansett was a messed up company that was going to go bust anyway. As for your completely inaccurate claim that ANZ was fuelling its planes and charging Ansett for it, that is a complete load of crap that was a rumour started by disgruntled former employees. The whole situation was reviewed by the Australian Government and no such fraud occured.

Just as many other airlines around the world had to be bailed out or collapsed due to the major downturn in aviation just before and after 9/11. At the end all Ansett was was a few almost worthless old aircraft...many of which to this day have not been resold...

due in part to Ansetts inept maintenance of its fleet prior to Air NZ buying it (something which of course did not show up in the books as Ansett was trying to hide it from buyers as well as CASA..in the end a lot of the fleet got grounded).
Sounds like you are a spiteful former Ansett employee... sure a lot of good people lost their jobs, but there were a lot of greedy people at Ansett (mostly management but also people not willing to allow restructuring to save their jobs and the company).

The Australian Government has every right to protect it's domestic air industry.
Crying over spilt milk...this isn't the case of a small mistake. The collapse of Ansett was a sign of gross mismanagement prior to, during and after the aquisition by Air NZ management. They did not have to purchase Ansett, they chose to. It was their ineptness that finally collapsed the airline, not the Australian government.

The song was made up by a company that makes ads for Air Nz and so I don't think you can get it from anywhere, I may be wrong. But the song was Definitely created while making the ads. Air NZ, Qantas and Pacific blue are the domestic carriers in New Zealand.
