It's a giant canopy of balloons that were for a grand opening. That got loose. Silver and white. It's not a craft of any kind.

@peterloohunt It was too big & too high to be a kite. It may have been a wedding canopy that got lose. You can see strings on each side. This thing was about two hundred feet wide.

I really think it's just a paraglider. The fact that you can't see the pilot is just one of those weird haze, distance and lighting effects.

@peterloohunt Because at one point it was right over the Go-kart race at the Coliseum. It was the size of a Jumbo jet. My camera messed up & I was unable to take the shot of it at the time. This was no paraglider. We see those on Long Island all the time. Up close it looked like a big Bonnet hat with wings..

@Hippiegeo How do you know it was directly above that particular landmark, without knowing the distance this object was from you? It's almost impossible to judge distances through atmospheric haze, and beyond a certain range, binocular vision no longer supplies depth information.

I once got fooled by an object that looked extremely large and metallic. I was as certain as yourself that it was at least 6ft tall. But when I grabbed the binoculars it was a small heart shaped mylar balloon.

hey I live on long island in baldwin there could be a couple of eplinations

1 the power plant on merchants concourse. sometimes lets of smoke clouds high in the sky if the wind was blowing from there that would explain it

2 if this was the day of the air show it could be the trail of a blue angel

3. if this was during when we had the drought earlier this year it could actually be a cloud because clouds need water to form if thats the case there would be little water in the air causing this.

It could be a parachute, but that seems unlikely given that it does not sway once throughout the entire film. And, I would think you'd have to go through a mass of red tape before you'd get permission to skydive over Long Island (with no real guarantee of getting a green light to do so, mind you). Plus, like you pointed out, there's nobody underneath. This is certainly strange.

But it looks like one of those party arch balloons. The problem is there is no point of reference to determine the height of the object or the size of it. The thing could be a couple of dozen feet long & only a few miles up in the sky or it could be 100 yards long over 15,000 feet high. There is no reference at all in that blue clear sky.
