I research high powered, high speed LEDs and pulsed lasers at work. By overdriving state-of-the art LED emitters from Cree, I can get about 5W of light output from an emitter rated for about 1W. It can take the abuse for about 100us. That's only 0.0005J. In contrast, the flashlamps that pump our Nd:YAG lasers take up to about 120J of input energy per pulse. Of course the LEDs can pulse up to 4MHz, and the flashlamps only at 10Hz. In general, flashlamps still beat LEDs for energy per pulse.
@maxride134, the light output of LED's are a tiny fraction of a Xenon strobe so for most applications they do not work. However as LED tech is advancing they are getting brighter and may soon be applicable.
so old idea we need new new new

Acetylene burns around 3300 °C
Hydrogen burns around 2300 °C
Hydrogen is not the hottest burning fuel.
