You could have beat the rival easier with a bit better tactic.

For example, you could have immediately sent out Staraptor against Heracross, instead f losing time, moves and HP with other Pokèmons.

you should really try to use type-advantages: empoleon(water) vs torterra(grass) isn't good ... use your empoleon(water) against rapidash(fire) or something ... really... learn to pick your types...
