How can that blonde girl and that man be soo oblivious to the ship sinking. It wasn't like the Titanic where everybody was calm at first, everybody was in a sticken panic...that should atleast give them some idea something bad is going to happen
A lot of you people don't know your History. A) Hitler was NOT in charge of Germany in 1918 B) Lusy's Funnels were painted Black for the Voyage, giving Schweiger the impression that she was a Troopship ergo a legit target. C) She was carrying Rifle shells - NOT a cargo of explosives D) The torpedo hit just abaft the Bridge - stirring up a cloud of Highly combustible coal dust in the Empty bunkers, which exploded and blew out the bottom of the vessel. This secondary explosion doomed the ship.
@rkoalldae actually the coal dust theory has been discounted because it would have been too damp. What most likely happened was an explosion in the steam generator plant & it's likely that the ship would have sunk without the second explosion anyway because of the faults in the ship's bulkhead design.
@Semaxist Germany started world war 1 and world war 2. Blowing up unarmed American ships even after they signed an agreement to stop. Killing abot 9 million Jews. Good job Germany. Your arguement is invalid shutup.

@inuyashafan64 Explosive cargo? I thought it was just guns? Well, the parliament does do some rather dumb things, I admit. But going by what you said und my own view point, I suppose both parties are equally at blame for this tragedy.
Churchill knew the sub was in the same area as the Lusitania, and he deliberately didn't send them the warning. Ballard proved that the ammo sent by Wilson wasn't the cause-wrong section exploded and he discovered intact ammo-it was the boilers that blew up from the cold seawater. Churchill conspired with FDR to allow Pearl Harbor to happen, and he let Coventry get bombed by the Germans instead of warning them as well. Being on the winning side doesn't mean it's okay to commit war crimes.
@strawberryhellkitten and @freedomseaker1 Churchill wasn't Prime Minister in 1915. Do some research so you can at least pretend to have a brain when you spread bullcrap conspiracy theories.
@Fatstratmatt96 He was FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY during the first World War, so he DID fucking know about the warnings, you moron. If anybody needs a brain, it's an idiot like you who can't even be bothered to do the research. Fuckwit.
Not to sound like an a-hole, but do you think Cunard could have built there thicker. I mean Britannic got torpedoed and it went down in 55 minutes. What happened?
@win7pc360 You don't sound like an A-hole asking a legitimate question. :)
What happened with the lusitania was after the torpedo hit, one of the boiler rooms began to flood, and when the cold water started to cool the hot, metal boilers, they became brittle, and easily broken. Eventually one or more of the boilers exploded, causing the 3rd funnel to collapse, and leading many to believe that the ship was hit with a second torpedo. Not sure if that sped up the sinking, but it can't have helped.
ship wouldn't have sunk from that hit, if Wilson hadn't been sending Churchill a secret shipment of ammuntion in the cargo hold. Blew the whole bottom off the ship.
and that FAT BRITISH PRICK Winston Churchill sent the ship into a war zone because he know the ship would be torpedoed and wanted to use that as an excuse to get America to join the war, his effort was in vain as the US did not join the way till much later.... all these people lost were a PAWN in WAR GAMES!
The germans werent to know the ship would sink so fast,a reasonable expectation is that it would negate all weapons bound for the front with minimal loss of life.WW! was a ridiculous war that most governments were in favour of.
THE BRITISH DECLARED WAR. ALL BRITISH SHIPS BECOMING MAN OF WAR = BRITISH MARITIME LAW. WHY ARE NOT THE BRITISH EVER ACCOUNTABLE. WE WERE WARNED NOT TO LAUNCH THAT SHIP WITH BRITISH ARMS. DO THE BRITISH HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOSE WHO DIES? FROM THE TIME COLOMBUS DISCOVERED AMERICA, THE BRITISH WAS THE ENEMY AND SELF PROCLAIMED RULERS OF THE SEA.
@mislynda1 one it was England and America's fault for putting weapons on a passenger boat, and two the people who got on the boats were warned by the German empire to not board any passenger boats that set sail near the British Isles, and specifically noted to not board the lusitania because they would sink any boat going into those waters. in other words if someone said they would kill you if you got onto a boat would you do it? they didn't deserve to die but they made a poor choice.
Funny thing which is worse... that the Germans torpeded the Lusitania.... or that it was carrying 4200 cases of ammunition from the Remington armory, and 1,300 artillery rounds ? really.... which is worse?
@bobmarleyisgod1 Im not 100% sure if this is from the movie Sinking of the Lusitania Terror at Sea the captains are played by 2 different actors. Bernard Hill played Captain Smith in the movie Titanic and Kenneth Cranham played captain turner in Sinking of the Lusitania Terror at Sea. I dont know if this is the movie that this video is on but I did find the info in Wikipedia.
So there was the scene of those who got trapped in the elevator when the power goes out. I dont know how they were in those days but now days in the event of an emergency its always posted on every elevator. Do not use the elevator in the event of a fire. And with cruise ships. I know Norweigen cruise line announces in an emergency never to use the elevators and im sure all cruise lines mention that also.
@andromedarr Firing on civilians is never the right move. Hitting the ship did not change anything for the germans they still got there asses handed to them.
@ARMYRYAN48 But all the ammo etc. lies at the bottom of the sea...trust me, they did the right thing....why would america load a ship with ammunition in war, if the ship carries civillians
@50AnimeLoverGirl If the americans send civilian ships (carrying ammo, aditionally) into the sea, although the Germans warned everyone, that they are torpedoing all american and english ships that cross their way, then they where responsible for everything, not the Germans, that just did what they warned everyone for.
@andromedarr German Consulate in NYC posted the adds in every newspaper warning potential passengers that "Lusitania" is carrying military cargo and can be attacked under the rules of war.
Yes. The Submarine Commander was right. Her must get the Iron Cross as Knight-Cross with Diamonds swords and oak leaves (the highest medal of Honour in Germany)
During the second world war the german ship Wilhelm Gustloff which was participating in the evacuation of civilian people was hit by three torpedos and about 9400 people died. No one of them deserved to die but things like this happen during a war. Every one makes mistakes and people have to stop to hate each other when they want to prevent such things!
@50AnimeLoverGirl it was a warning shot they did not want to sink it. what sank it was all ammuntions it was carring the americans knew that a german u-boat was sooner or later was going to torpido it. or they were just carring ammuntions to help the allies but they were not suppost to do that.
@50AnimeLoverGirl It wasnt totally their fault. The area that the Lusitania was in was considered a war zone, and they had been warned many times by Germany not to send Liners in. The men who shot at the Lusitania had no idea till after they had sunk it, they were just following orders...
If some fucking director ever makes a movie about the sinking of the Lusitania and inserts some "bohemian" character that falls for some rich spoiled little bitch with a one-dimensional villianous husband and makes those two and their "love story" the central focus of that story of the sinking of the Lusitania.....I WILL PERSONALLY HUNT THE FUCKING DIRECTOR DOWN AND KILL THE FUCKER!
RMS Lusitania did not carry munitions, apart from a small legal cargo of 0.303 bullets. The explosion was caused by the torpedo hitting the empty coal bunkers and igniting coal dust (as identified by Robert Ballard in the 1990s)
@buster231000 This was your original comment I saw as I said there were NO NAZIS in World War One! They did not start organizing until the very late 1920's. Learn your history sonny in the meantime go back to playing with your Legos! I can't say anything against Godzilla cause I collect him too!
@BrandonxxYn1 Yes it did, which is why I said, "Elevators had only been installed on ships in the last decade, and it was a new idea." They were first introduced in the SS Amerika (1905), but elevators at sea were new-fangled enough that they were objects of considerable interest on the liners, even at the time of the Titanic.
@homesweethome1984 thats dumb! if i were the professor, i would look for her on the deck because its common sense to go there and flee the sinking and the water...
@ lilmisafarah No, that wasn't the same actor who played the captain. The voice is obviously very different. Thr actor from Titanic was Bernard Hill and he looked nothing like the actor here. I am familiar with Bernard Hill's voice because he was in the Lord of The Rings (my #1 fave movie trilogy)
The Lusitania should have had an escort of cruisers and destroyers. but they never came. Some people think that Winston Churchill deliberately used the Lusitania as bait.
The Lusitiania should have had an escort of cruisers and destroyers. but they never came. Some people think that Winston Churchill deliberately used the Lusitania as bait.
@lilmissfarah Since this is a movie based on the Lusitania my guess is the captain in this movie was played by the same actor who played the captain in the movie Titanic. So that could be why they look exactly the same. Both captains are played by the same actor.
@Brain245able It wasnt a war ship.It was on Civilian service at the time of the sinking. The Mauretania was involved in the war as a hospital ship & troop ship. Lusitania never was.
Ammunition didn't cause the ship to sink so quickly it was a mixture of coal dust and when the fire got to the coal dust it shook the empty bunkers and ignited causing the ship to list to starboard and sink in 18 minutes (from Robert Ballard in Last Voyage of the Lusitania)
The Lusitania was carrying arms and ammunition for the British thereby making it a legitimate target. It was criminal of the British government to do this. The Germans also published a warning in the New York papers to not sail on this ship. They gave fair warning. War is a terrible thing and let us not forget that the British blockade was starving German women and children at the same time.
actually it was only a few crates of .303 ammunition which America had been producing and exporting since before WWI. It was a regular cargo on ships before and during the war.

They were first introduced in the SS Amerika (1905), but elevators at sea were new-fangled enough that they were objects of considerable interest on the liners, even at the time of the Titanic.

@poussecafe3 "The Lusitania should have had an escort of cruisers and destroyers."
How do you figure that? The Lusitania was a civilian passenger ship, why would it possibly warrant a military escort?

i swear that is EXACTLY the same captain from the Titanic
maybe that was just a generic captainy look of those days, god rest their souls
lilmissfarah 1 year ago 10
@lilmissfarah hahaha! captainy look! i like that.
mdl80271 1 year ago
@lilmissfarah Since this is a movie based on the Lusitania my guess is the captain in this movie was played by the same actor who played the captain in the movie Titanic. So that could be why they look exactly the same. Both captains are played by the same actor.
MrWill1985 10 months ago
@lilmissfarah If you did your Titanic research, the captain was Captain Edward John Smith and he died on the Titanic
FangsSnappy 9 months ago
@lilmissfarah Yeah the actor looks exactly the captain from the Titanic.

@Brain245able It wasnt a war ship.It was on Civilian service at the time of the sinking. The Mauretania was involved in the war as a hospital ship & troop ship. Lusitania never was.

did you know that sometime in the summer i'm doing a playmobiel version of Titanic, do you think i should do a sequal called Lusitania?
starball23 1 year ago
When a ship is sinking, you must NEVER take the elevator. Because sea water makes the electricity go away very fast.
You must always take the stairs!
genchandy 1 year ago
Ammunition didn't cause the ship to sink so quickly it was a mixture of coal dust and when the fire got to the coal dust it shook the empty bunkers and ignited causing the ship to list to starboard and sink in 18 minutes (from Robert Ballard in Last Voyage of the Lusitania)

@Paplokh There is no excuse whatsoever for deliberately torpedoing a ship full of civilians. It was cold-blooded mass murder.

The Lusitania was carrying arms and ammunition for the British thereby making it a legitimate target. It was criminal of the British government to do this. The Germans also published a warning in the New York papers to not sail on this ship. They gave fair warning. War is a terrible thing and let us not forget that the British blockade was starving German women and children at the same time.
elconfederado69 1 year ago
actually it was only a few crates of .303 ammunition which America had been producing and exporting since before WWI. It was a regular cargo on ships before and during the war.
