  • Dude I love your take on this.

  • <3 great job man!! i wanna hear someone do some bob marley on one of these!

  • how long did it take for your strumstick to be delievered...I really want one but I'm a bit wary on ordering it online

  • @CourtneyKangaroo I got mine in a store.

  • @CourtneyKangaroo just get it from the website

  • i need you to go ahead a make a cd, so I can pirate it off the Internet and put it on my ipod.

  • Thank you for breaking the strum down into the specific beats for me. Please keep posting your music to You Tube. It's great!

  • Dude this is awesome! Love it! =)

  • Nice job! You could also meld that into "No Woman No Cry"... I think it would fit with the melody.

  • @gutturtle That would be appropriate - a song I heard too much in high school combined with a song I heard too much in college!

  • Could you explain how you are doing the strumming? It fits the song so well. Thank you.

  • @lovedulcimermusic I use my thumb to hit the first beat note, then strum down-up (or just down). If you think of the beat as 1-2-3-4 then the thumb is on 1, and the down-up is on 3-4. I hope that makes sense - I'm not good at musical terminology.

  • Wonderful playing and singing!

  • How have you been playing?

  • @LEXMARKi295 You mean how long? A month or so when I made this video - but with 25 years of mediocre guitar behind it.

  • @seonachan Very cool! And yes, I meant how long, hahah. I just got my strumstick not too long ago and I'm loving it. Thanks for the response!

  • That made me cry :') what a good sound, and awesome song choice :)

  • Good entertainment. Nice job. Nice song. Try it in the next octave...

  • @ThePaulgregg I'm not much good at falsetto.

  • Strumsticks are so much fun.

  • I like this cover! mine is not as good but could you guys please check it out . It might impress you guys =)

  • @yac311 Um, I'd say yours it better.

  • I own one of these strumstick For this is tuned DAD not bad playing

  • No bad!

  • Wonderfully subdued to the point of being better than the original.

  • Whats so interesting here is that you've taken a great song and an interesting cover and made it something more. Your cover is far better than John Regan's without any doubt. I think he was trying for the minimalism and loneliness that you've so perfectly captured here. Kudos for a great performance!

  • You took a horrible song and made it great! Bravo! PLEASE, PLEASE put together a book strumstick tabs!

  • This made my Fav 5 in 2010. Thanks

  • Brought a smile to my face. Nice job man.

  • BFLESHMAN SAYS THAT KYLE SAYS "YOU JUST RUINED A PERFECTLY GOOD SONG"

  • @bfleshman1 I agree with Kyle, except for the "perfectly good song" part.

  • KYLE SAYS "YOU JUST RUINED A PERFECTLY GOOD SONG".

  • Good voice! I'm hoping to get a strumstick for gift day! :)

  • Made me want to put my strumstick away in shame.

  • this is fantastic.

  • Nice technique, this guy makes the strumstick sound as great as any other instrument out there. It's amazing what you can manage when you throw in a little left-hand technique to add texture to your playing.

  • not only what are the note's but also the tunning ?

  • @leojdroffaws3 (and everyone else who's asked): the tuning is FCF, and there's a link to the tabs in the description.

  • The default instrument for music is not a guitar, thanks.

  • Whats the point? The instrument is for beginners, the concept is that it only plays the major scale and your not even using the frets to play the song. Get an actual guitar.

  • @Born4evilJr it doesnt only have to be for beginners i play the bass in a highschool band (upright and electric) but im thinking of getting one of these just to play for fun and i like the sound of them so maybe you should think before being a dick on youtube

  • @cjwolfer I don't really care, I play 6 string acoustic and electric guitar, bass and 7 string electric in a highschool band and 2 other bands outside of school and I'm entitled to my opinion. Fuck off.

  • what is it the tab please

  • What are the notes? because I love playing my strum and I would like to know the notes.

  • WHERE DID YOU LEARN THIS?!?!?! IT IS AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Is that a standard or a grand strumstick?

  • @SabreFan84 it's a standard, but tuned down to FCF (standard is normally GDG)

  • @seonachan man, great job :O. im looking into buying a strum stick cuz uv inspired me. is it hard to play? for example, how long did it take you to play like u can in this video?

  • @SixStringFilms Well I've played self-taught guitar since I was a kid - never got too good but learned strumming & fingerpicking techniques. So I mostly knew what to do when I picked up the strumstick. But I think even for a newbie it has immediate rewards. What takes time is developing a feel and an ear for the sounds that you like and want. Good luck!

  • Hey this is really lovely...great use of the strumstick. Keep on strummin'!

    Bob McNally

  • @bobomcnally Thanks! You keep buildin' 'em an' I'll keep strummin' 'em. These are amazing instruments.

  • great Rythem man, keep on rockin!

  • Is this a Chromatic Strumstick

  • @eastrockaway11518 nope it's the regular one

  • Amazing!

  • I'm a huge fan of this video, but when I tried to download the tabs, box.net was down.

  • @sodisarmingdarling hmm, worked for me (without being logged in). Maybe it was just down temporarily?

  • I tunes.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • that was wonderful! thanks for tabbing it!

  • @revdrjim Where is it tabbed? And do you know any other places to find how to play some 80's and 90's songs on a strumstick?

  • @ganggreen520 - check the drop down info below the video window for tabs link.

  • can you give a tutorial of how to play this song. This is the coolest thing Ive seen any where all over the web for strum stick songs! great job

  • really great. -Ron

  • This is the way this tune SHOULD be played!.. Mistakes n' all!... Brilliant!!

  • Wonderful. Thanks!

  • great job. enjoyed hearing something different. look like you are playing on air.

  • This was absolutely wonderful... little mistakes and all! Makes me want to save up for a strumstick myself just to sing this! Your arrangement is so beautiful... I've already watched this 3 times! Thanks for sharing! --Sam Love

  • @helveticaukes Thank you very much! You should definitely get a strumstick. It would only be fair, since I just got a uke.

  • holy cow!! this is the coolest thing ever!

  • @AliasSpecWriter Oh, if only it were, my life would be so much more interesting. But thank you!

  • very cool...is the strum stick similar to a dulcimer? If so I should buy one (...I've been turning my dulcimer on its side for years :)

  • very similar and not too difficult to make. check out michaeljking

  • @sahmbedah

i've got one for sale, handmade by the best strumstick maker in the US. look up neptunedarling vintage on ebay.

  • Thats so cool! I play the strumstick too, but im not that great! haha. This is amazing!

  • i love it! Way more than the original. The dulcimer sound, your voice and passion sound amazing too! Great great job.

  • I tune mine dad, ive tried fcf and gdg.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words everybody!

  • and are you tuned dad

  • It's tuned FCF - the "official" tuning for the standard strumstick is GDG but I tuned it down a key. I put a link to the tabs in the description.

  • could you tabs this for me please

  • dam dude thats good ;D

  • wow. awesome, Great job.

  • you totally inspired me to make my own video....im not as good as a singer as u or player but i still think its pretty cool thanx!

  • I saw it and I think it's VERY cool! Nice job!

  • yeah youre a great singer sweetie

    (shes my girlfriend)

  • Oh my gosh!!! Really good!!!

  • Great job!

I was wondering if you could tell the strumming/picking pattern you used. could you? :) thanks in advance.

  • @digadigadoohdah The verses are pretty much thumb/down-up/thumb/down-up; the chorus is more like down/down-up/up-down-up. I hope that makes sense!

  • great job, i enjoyed it

  • very nice!!! i love to see old songs with new life

  • Good job. Thanks for taking on the challenge of making that song your own! We have enough covers of "Amazing Grace" and Old Susanna" already.

  • yes

    yes

    yes!!!

    i fckin love it!!!

i do covers with limited strings, myself.. i play a 2 string guitar.. look me up some time!

  • Fantastic! An exemplary performance! x x

  • Nice! Would have been 5/5 without the lyrics bobbles. Keep up the great work!

  • Nice!!! Lois (Autoharpist) The Gospel & Folk Weather Girls
