  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • some really good stuff here

  • "mar-KOO-za". Wow, I have been pronouncing it so wrong.

  • good work here

  • Another crackpot fighting hid own strawman in the comments, I see.

  • This vile evil godless man is being tormented day and night now! ,follow him at the price of your own damnation!

  • This godless evil man is being tormented day and now , follow him at the risk of your own eternal damnation!

  • I would like to add that marx didnt predict the fall of the kind of capitalism we have today. Today most European countries have at one point in history (often recent) had a social democratic government. We have a social safety net, welfare, free schools, free hospitals, etc.

  • @gulbirk I agree. The two systems are in fact mixed.

  • Very good critique of the new left

  • Jew.

  • Why are there so many idiotic comments under this video? Simply appalling .

  • "...a society which revealed daily it's inequality, injustice, cruelty and it's general destructiveness."

Marcuse is talking about the USA...the country/society that literally saved him from being roasted in Nazi ovens during WW2. That's why he over came here in the 1930's, I guess...our inequality, injustice, cruelty and destructiveness.

No good deed goes unpunished, as they say.

  • @TheCanine2 So because of the US involvement in the war it cancels out any criticism of the social problems the US have/had? You're right, fuck black people getting the vote, you kicked Nazi ass after all.

  • @JakCei

Black people had the vote after the Civil War.

Before emigrating to the US, (or realizing he'd have to) Marcuse and others in Frankfurt strategized on how to bring down the big evil United States...economic and overtly political means alone wouldn't work. But America had an extremely tolerant society in the 1930's, and therein lay the means.

Read Marcuse's "Repressive Tolerance". Or better yet, look at the brief synopsis on Wiki...

  • @TheCanine2 Black people had no vote, they were discriminated from taking part in elections, they had no political representation.

As for what I have actually read, he did not strategise on bringing down the United States government, that's hyperbole, he was a critical theorist along with Adorno writing extensively on alienation in capitalism, for the book itself, he did not see flat out tolerance of absolute free speech as genuine, i.e. a healthy society would not tolerate racism.

  • @JakCei

The problem is, if society adopts a policy of not tolerating what it defines as "racist" opinion, then people start calling any opinion they don't like "racist." Example: one of my wife's colleagues claimed that some of the new street curbs in our city were racist because they made it harder for inner city gangs to evade the police.

Marcuse says those who decide what will be "tolerated" in his utopia will be the "few", and "not necessarily elected representatives." Disturbing.

  • The other week their was a brilliant article in Mail on Sunday and it was so good that i cut it out and saved it. Its called 'HOW THE BBC FELL FOR A MARXIST PLOT TO DESTROY CIVILISATION FROM WITHIN'. Ive checked and it is on the internet. I can certainly recommend it. Really super.

  • The most significant thing about this “interview” is the naive “Let's play by the rules of proper cricket” approach of Magee while actually facing a piece of Marxist slime who's only objective ever was that of annihilating Western Christian civilization. No wonder we're in such dire straights.

Instead of stringing Marcuse from the nearest lamp post, Magee actually gives this pile of destructive garbage a hearing - the same garbage btw. that created the conditions for today’s ‘hate speech laws’!

  • What is commonly termed communism are actually totalitarian dictatorships or tyrannies, that took power under the guise of Marxism. The U.S. government has been bailing out major sectors of the national economy since the countries inception. The only time this form of capitalism ever worked was in the 1940s & 50s... when we consumed what we produced... good luck with that ever working in a Global Economy.

  • Marcuse was not a Zionist. You are completely ignorant.

  • The Frankfurt School was a front for a group of an anti-western Marxists bent on cultural and social subversion.

  • @UserUK201 You say that like it's a bad thing

  • what the hell attracted so many nazi's to this video

  • @DeathMetalPatriot, Fascism and communism were both reactions against capitalism. A proper political spectrum would have capitalism at one end, and fascism/communism at the other. But a deal was struck between the fascists and communists in Weimar Germany to spin it so they were opposite extremes, ie, the only choices.

  • @boldstandard

"A proper political spectrum would have capitalism at one end, and fascism/communism at the other."

I don't know how you can see capitalism as a political system. It is not. Capitalism exists in fascist systems. it also exists in communist systems - albeit in a black market form.

  • @MrNotyag

    1. Mussolini was not a marxist but affiliated with syndicalism; which back then was mainly corporativist.

    2. Your argument is retarded. Since the communist movement was a reaction against liberal capitalism does that mean that liberal capitalism actually caused fascism? STUPID!

  • @benjaminverso Actually yes, the bourgeoisie in the shape of Thyssen, I.G Farben and Fiat did not fear Jews or other "subversives" within Italy and Germany, they feared the radical working class base that would have overthrown the social model at the time, then you had international conglomerates and banking corporations investing in the Nazi German economy, Coca-Cola and IBM are two classic examples. Groups such as these certainly fuelled the aspirations of fascist regimes, especially in Chile.

  • I'll never understand the hostility between Communists and Fascists, when they both look fairly similar to me, they both are totalitarian and believe in the state over the individual, both are collectivist, and the antithesis of liberty!

  • @DeathMetalPatriot One is nationalistic, one is internationalistic.

  • i tough You Tube is a smart place to have intelligent debate, i guess i was definitely wrong!

  • @MrNotyag which experts are that? oh yeah, the institutionalized bourgeois academic instructors...no my friend, fascism is alive and well... coupled with modern technology, not only is it here to stay but its control and authority is ubiquitous!!!

  • @MrNotyag facism can survive in every political system.

  • @MrNotyag Look, stupid fuck, don't you ever tell me to "read up" you presumptuous assinine twit. Do not ever call me "friend" either. You're a fascist in training; as are most idiot Americans in 2011. Go celebrate the military state we live in, you proto-brown shirt thug. I'll be there fighting against scum like you, just as it the communsits and other leftists led the resistance against fascism in France, Spain and Italy.

You need to "read up." Fucking scum fuck.

  • @bapyou And you need to learn some writing, you anti-fascist warrior. :-)

  • @bapyou Chill mate! ;-)

  • @bapyou God bless Hitler.

  • @bapyou

LOL your faggot ass is over here too? Hahahahahaha another scumbag following the Jews.

  • Thumbs up if the first thing you thought about when the interviewer opens his mouth to speak is John Cleese and an old Monty Pythion sketch lampooning British intellectual chat shows.

  • @MrNotyag "Can't you see that it was the destuctive egalitarian ideology of Marxist/Leninism that brought forth fascism to begin with?"

Complete idiocy. If you knew anything about the rise of fascism, you'd know it was (and is) the complete antithesis of Marxist ideology. Read Behemoth, (Frankfurt Schooler) Franz Neumann's book on the rise of German fascism. Hell, read Hitler's Mein Kampf, in which A.H. expresses loathing for all things leftist and Marxist.

    You're a complete idiot.

  • @TheLaxityandJam The World Health Organization's website reveals that in the developing world 10 million children ages 0-14 die annually, constituting over 1/3 of all 3rd world deaths. Historical numbers of the deaths "caused" by communism vary, the highest possible number is 100,000,000. Infant mortality alone since the collapse of communism is over twice this. This is only the tip of the iceberg, when counting preventable deaths nothing is worse than capitalism. Enough said?

  • Christ, the noxious idiocy in this comments section is really bad, even by normal youtube standards.

  • adorno was born o

with a silver foot in his mouth

    marcuse was a doosie

who took on the corporate floozie

    horkheimer was a social climber

and they all defurred when in doubt

to walter benjamin..who had real clout

  • EAU's comments are utter nonsense. The vast majority of the administrative bureaucracy at universities are fervent believers in free market fundamentalism. They are neoliberal technocrats that are leading the corporatization of the university, turning it into a factory meant to serve the needs of the labor market. They care nothing about educating people. Moreover, the administration is fast trying to dissolve tenure and undermine the voice of teachers and students.

  • I would like to take a moment to say.....HEIL HITLER!

  • @TheLaxityandJam Erm... did you actually watch the video? Like, even the first 40 seconds?

  • I don't know much about the Frankfurt School, other than who Walter Benjamin was.

He was a cynic and pedantic literary crictic...always trying to insert politics and revolt in the midst of everything. Very much like these comments below.

Are you people arguing part of the Frankfurt School?

  • bryan magee pwns

  • Marcuse, like Adorno and Horkheimer, is a Jew who wanted to destabilise European civilisation.

  • @FlorisVanHolland tee hee

  • @FlorisVanHolland You sound incredibly intelligent.

  • @FlorisVanHolland Yeah like EU wants to destabilize the US Civilization. Same shjet imo , and its stil lat work.

  • Just want to thank the uploader for taking trouble to give us this valuable video.

  • Listen carefully. It's Lord Sith that speaks through Marcuse....

  • The so-called "revolutionary" youth, especially of the political and social tumult such engendered in the 1960s, were no less willing and able to break free from the programme of the elder bureaucrats and career politicians such rebellion was ostensibly aimed at. Instead, what history points to is the kind of impotent rebellion of a child to its parent, with no forwarding of a "new" vision from the young, student protest movement. The 1960s did spawn an age of cynicism.

  • ROFL@people who think communism is a jewish invention. Thats the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

  • @SpectacleofDebord

It is a Jewish invention, dickhead. That's why 95% of The Frankfurt School is Jewish, Marx was Jewish, Lenin was Jewish and 5/7 men that tried to establish a communist dictatorship in Munich were Jewish. Keep being a follower of the Jews, shithead.

  • Why this cultural destroyer was invited to spew his poison in the first place amazes me!

Freudianism, Marxism, and the Holocaust all have three things in common:

    1) our White European self-identity is not what we think it is.Our civility is based on coarse sexual drives, our respect for honesty and trust in economy is based on naked avarice, and our high culture based on genocidal hate and racism,

    2) all three are Jewish inventions.

    3) all three are aimed at alienating us from ourselves

  • @Matthysable

100% correct. So funny seeing white communists....followers of the Zionist filth.

  • The Frankfurt School was a Jewish ethnic assault against the foundations of Western Civilization. Unfortunately, it has been all too successful.

  • From the bowels of hell emerged these kind of folks. They spawned movements only to attack Western Culture. They hate family values, straight people, and above all Catholics who reject the sins of abortion, fornication and birth control.

  • @holocaustexpert indeed. Tell me more, the halocaust never happened.

  • @TheLaxityandJam Really? Well two points. One is that USSR wasn't Communist and a lot of Marxists criticize who Stalin strayed from Marxism. Second point is Stalin only killed roughly 800,000 people. Which is way too much and I am not advocating for him but you must realize that the number in your head is propaganda. Also look at how much the United States kills. Look at the Contras in South America who destroy villages. Or how about imperialistic wars like Iraq and Afghanistan?

  • I am appalled at the comments section. Bunch of uneducated morons. This is what happens when people get all their info from Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, etc.

  • @hitmanhart670 Are you going to refute any of the points or is the phrase "I am appalled by the comments" code speak for "I really, really disagree with them" and you actually can't defend your point of view?!

  • @silvi01977 What do you want me to refute? A bunch of nonsensicle drivel from morons who seem to think those who support women's rights, workers rights, and human rights are evil people? The Frankfurt philosophers were influenced by Marx but they were critical of dictratorships such as those that existed in the Soviet Union. It is very stupid and intellectually dishonest to lump in anyone who has been influenced by Marx in the same boat.

  • The ideas of Marx and the Jewish Bolsheviks who took over Russia in 1917 provided the blueprint for dictatorship. Millions died under the Bolsheviks and then more under Stalin. The fact that the Frankfurt philosophers were "critical" of such dictatorships provides little consolation to the people who were tortured and murdered under a communist system.

  • @utube9000 Another logical fallacy spewed by a right wing troll...wow what a shocker. So because the Frankfurt School was influenced by Marx and the Bolsheviks were influenced by Marx, the Frankfurt School is responsible for the attrocities of the Bolsheviks and then later Stalin? how about the fact that the Franfkurters did not advocate violence and were vehemently against oppressive states? Have you even read Marcuse, Adorno, Horkheimer, Habermas, etc? OF COURSE YOU HAVEN'T SO STFU

  • @hitmanhart670- First of all, what is a "troll" exactly? Yes, I know what it means, but in the age of Youtube, can't ANYONE watch a video and post a comment? Didn't YOU once post a comment here for the first time as well? Give me a break...

No, I did NOT say the Frankfurt School was responsible for the Bolsheviks or Stalin, rather I said they were "critical of such dictatorships." Perhaps you lack reading comprehension?

Yes, I have read the writings pf Marcuse & Adorno & Eric Fromm as well.

  • @hitmanhart670 Excuse me asswipe, Government Forcing individuals to purchase mandatory privately manufactured products is what? Oppressive! Meaning Progressives running states by definition is Oppressive as we witnessed the destructive way the Progressives ran the House and Senate. And the way they were thrown out on their asses! I still have not heard the Progressives idea of an ideal society and how the framework of such a society would manifest itself.

We know what the Constitution says but.

  • @escomments hey douchebag, why are you talking about the health care law when this video is about the Frankfurt School? Shut your stupid uneducated ass up because its clear as day your a worthless degenerate teabagger who gets all his info from talk radio and foxnews commentators and has no business getting involved in discussions of politics, history, and philosophy

  • @hitmanhart670 - You're so beyond stupid it's pathetic. You're so fucked in the head it's impossible for you to think. Even a stupid person could make the connection but you're not stupid. You're beyond stupid. You're so fucked in the head you cannot understand what you just said is no different from fascism - the notion that anyone who disagrees has no right to speak. You're to fucked in the head it's impossible for you to understand that Tribalism is the belief that morals belong to groups.

  • @hitmanhart670 I thought we were talking about Cultural Marxism ie, Progressivism. BTW, you are the Douchebag. Is that all you have? Attack the messengers because you can't attack the message? What is not true about what I said? Nothing. "we are talking about the Frankfurt School, not the Healthcare Law." You are the moron, you can't even see how one grew out of the ideas of the other. How old are you, twelve?

  • @hitmanhart670

I'm appalled that dipshits like yourself still follow the Jewish communist ideology.

  • funny that the frankfurters came here to the US instead of Russia. i wonder what they got themselves up to after they came here...?

  • Have us all DRUGGED with a NEUROTOXIN gradually increasing the Amount its in Cola's will eat up meat, milder dose is in Water, called Fluoride

  • An evil, evil man.

  • @funkybjorn11 An idiotic, stupid thing to say. What are you afraid of? What work of his have you read? Evil? Have you no comparative judgement?

  • Double talking asshole. Now we can lay at his feet the upheaval tumult and confusion that exists to this day. Our schools have been seized -- lock, stock and barrel -- by social deconstructionist forces. Yes, there are some good teachers. But these are a minority who must keep their views to themselves while the overwhelming majority of teachers and administrators are nightmares straight out of the Frankfurt School.

  • @EAU2007 You're wrong! The majority of the teachers, politicians and so on are blinded fools who believe in this systeme and in the capitalism! The Ideas of Marcuse and the Frankfurt School are nothing for them! But we have to talk about them, because they are so right! No one wants to see it, but the capitalism and our society without any feelings can't be the answer! We could have a better life!

  • @Blinki18284 better life as in.....what do you mean exactly?

  • @wrathofvengance67 as in capitalism! Marcuse calls it a "higher quality of life" with free humans, who are no more part of economy but economy is part of their lifes!

  • @EAU2007 Paranoia can be effectively treated...

  • @2Majesties ~ So..what are you waiting for? You'll feel much better.

  • Attack, Attack, Attack! Critical thinking....attack anything having to do with the west! Split hairs, argue about words, re-define the word define. Marcuse, how do you like your room in hell? How is Hitler and Stalin, you smooth talking serpent!? How is Theo Adorno? Is it hard to talk with your tongue on fire?

  • @MsLincolnsghost lol...xD

  • As a German I have to say: I love the british accent!

  • @Blinki18284

As a Spanish I have to say> I love the British (BBC) accent !

  • @Cactilio86 :) And I have to say: I hate american english!

  • @Blinki18284: No one cares what your emasculated servile beta males think, go make another scat film lemming boy.

  • @espada9 Try to understand this wonderful man and you will stop writing things like that! :)

  • Marcuse é um legítimo filósofo da revolução! Marcuse é espetacular!!! (Marcuse is wonderful!!!)

  • Comment removed

  • I cannot adequately express my disdain for Marcuse, Adorno, Horkheimer and the entire Frankfurt School, knowing the extent they are responsible for the poisoning of Western civilization. Men are known by their fruits, and the movements they conceived have only brought forth filth, human degradation, and the destruction of sacred institutions. I will do my utmost to live my life in a manner in opposition to these evil men, and will commit to exposing them to as many people as possible.

  • @Feanor1169 I think that's the most idiotic comment I've ever read on YouTube.

  • @cvb777 That's because you were either born a retard or you just practice alot. Fucktard.

  • @hoink23: Fascists? "We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions." --Adolf Hitler

  • @espada9

So the union crushing, capitalist helping Hitler was actually a socialist?

  • @pulsatingremedy: Who did you get your historical perspective from Zinn and Chomsky? Another brain dead lemming, Hitler HATED capitalism.

"The philosophy of the Nazis, the German National Socialist Labor Party, is the purest and most consistent manifestation of the anti-capitalistic and socialist spirit of our age."- Von Mises

  • @espada9

So all of the capitalists who supported Hitler were actually suicidal? And that Hitler crushed the unions was just a myth? How about all of the socialists killed in the concentration camps, also just a myth?

There is a reason why Krupp supported Hitler.

  • @espada9

Funny since there are also quotes from Hitler that detail how he supports a free market system.

  • @HokiesAndDawgs: Hitler supported free market capitalism? Your understanding of the term "free market" is sophomoric at best.

“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power” - Benito Mussolini

  • @espada9

But communism is a system where wages are fixed. Wages were not fixed in 1930s Germany.

  • @espada9 I guess you are an American?

  • @hoink23 haha you are W O N D E R F U L

  • @hoink23 Why do you wish to suppress ideas and expression? Isn't this "oppression" what the anti-God and fag loving left are supposedly protesting against?

Actually, no they are not. They, too, are hypocrites. They, and you, as your comment demonstratres, transparently seek people controll. No freedom to express ideas, just opppress others with your ideology and make others accept your lifestyle by force.

You insult actual victims of historical Facism with your misuse of the term.

  • @hoink23 Come on..scream Smash the State and Fascism Racism..real loud for us.

Make it seem as if you are some minority instead of the truth..in control of Academia, the Media

the Democratic Party and Labour Party UK. Try to make some talk show host out to be the real

problem while the massive destruction of your herd is denied.

  • The most harmful ideolgy

  • Comment removed

  • Germany, today, is the enemy of Free Speech. They lock people up for questioning the politically correct position on the Jewish "holocaust". People who believe they have the truth, do not have to lock up their ideological opponents, they simply need to defeat them in open and public debate. The Jews have always had to rely on strong arm tactics to maintain their control of what ideas enter the minds of the masses. People are finally waking up.

  • @BEGOODTOYOURDOG1 thats not true. Volksverhetzung relates directly to those inciting hatred or disturbing the piece. The German constitution allows for free speech. England has the same law but you don't see David Irving being locked up, he went to court for civil reasons. In fact, Britain's Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006 is much more politically correct as it has loop holes that means you could prosecute someone who questions the bible or quran.

  • @soursourapples. If you think there is free speech in Germany because of the German Constitution, I dare you to pass out leaflets, in any German city, that say no Jews were executed in gas chambers in WW2. Go on, I dare you! Have you never heard of Ernst Zundel? You need to wake up! Are you one of those people who thinks free speech does not include hate speech? Is that really your idea of free speech? It is not mine. If a man is not free to offend, he is not free!!!

  • @BEGOODTOYOURDOG1

don't tell me to wake up. i gave you a respectable answer, which is more than i guess a lot of people give you, so please give me a respectable answer. If you read the German constitution then it is obvious that Ernst Zudel knew the law when he published Richard Veralls book. I know this book and it is not just some innocent book question the historical evidence of the Holocaust. There are proper channels to go through to discuss such historical matters.

  • @BEGOODTOYOURDOG1

it is also clear what your agenda is by handing out such pamphlets. a better idea would be to change your agenda and make it more similar to Finkelstein's. He wrote the holocaust industry, a book i'm sure you would be intrested in reading.

  • @soursourapples. You have not answered my questions. Do you believe a person should be free to hand out leaflets in Germany that question the gassing of Jews by Germans in WW2? Do you believe a person in Germany would be free to hand out those leaflets without risking legal action? I would like straight answers from you.

  • @BEGOODTOYOURDOG1 straight answer: in my opinion anyone should be free to hand out leaflets about anything. The germans think otherwise, and you can respect that or not.

Free speech has not always been a corner stone of white European culture, and nationalists such as Nietzche would say it was undesirable. The new WN position is that of a victim culture and can be seen for the flagrant point scoring ideology that is nowadays.

  • Anyone know where II can get a detailed biography of his life? Seems like there is no real overview of his life/work.

  • I'm surprised there's no discussion of Marx's critique of Napoleon III and how this shaped Marxist's critiques of fascism during the early-mid 20th century as well as showed the range and depth of Marx's thought. Bryan Magee describes Marxism in a vary shallow way in the interviews I've seen him conduct.

  • @noel0083

Could be that the Frankfurt School Marxists are the ideological appendix of National Socialism. Germany imprisons more intellectuals and journalists for 'thought crime' than the GDR today.

  • It is interesting to watch Marxcuse and listen to his "It's not my fault" lies. He and his friends caused the biggest upheaval in western society ever seen. The destruction of the family; the feral children syndrome; the massive illegal drugs industry; the homosexual 'revolution; feminism and on and on were all part of the Frankfurt Schools aims to undermine western society. The man is a monster.

  • @DumblyBrilliant

yeah, you sound like a brilliant dumb!

Is any society on the planet earth a model in itself ?

According to your dumb mind the western society was heavenly perfection on the earth and oh,oh, Marcuse spoiled it..

Don't you see how stupid you think.. and how limited you are?!

  • @naturaloriginal

What a suprise! A lefty using an Ad Hominum attack instead of an argument. Why, anyone would think it was a technique.

Try studying without your brainwashed blinkers on.

  • @DumblyBrilliant

    Read again!

The question was what western society you do think was so perfect to believe Marcuse spoiled it? ha?

  • @naturaloriginal

Read again! A lefty using an Ad Hominum attack instead of an argument.

Note. I said argument not question. Your question does not address what I actually said and neither does it present an opposing view.

    And you called ME stupid?

Most children are lefties until they grow up then they see through the bull. Either you have not grown up or you are a typically stunted lefty adult. In either case, talking to you is a waste of time. Go study/

  • @DumblyBrilliant We must fight Left-wing postmodernism criminalize homosexuality, crush feminism.

  • @dhyanamooch They are against the nature

  • @dhyanamooch 'Nature' is a very subjective place to argue from. It is essentially your experience of what is normal from your socio-economic sphere. If we were to take a look at certain third world countries where murder or theft are the norm, we could easily conclude that it is human nature to murder and steal, so to have a system in which it is wrong is 'against nature'. As for homosexuality; you should be aware that a homosexual (Allan Turing) was responsible for the computer you are using.

  • I agree with you and the way to do it is not through violence but through argument. We need to return to teaching the young about the dangers of Communism/Socialism AND we need to build institutions which deny entry to those who think Marcuse and his friends are wonderful. This is a cultural war and we have to fight it and win. If not we return to the Communist system that has murdered approx 400 MILLION people since its inception by Marx and Engels. We must recognise its evil and fight back.

  • @DumblyBrilliant I'm not advocating violence, but sometimes when I see the disarray and confusion in society I get upset. I agree with all what you say. These left wing intellectuals clearly get a kick from seeing the structures that has taken along time to settle, crumble. We are fighting an uphill battle. What I see sickens me. It get worse every year. How are we to revert their undoing? Everything is just chaos - no values or morality left. You are not alone.

  • @dhyanamooch Thank you. As you say, violence is not an aswer. We must replace those institutions infected by the left with alternatives. The key is present in forceful terms our own arguments. You have to keep in mind that the current sense of hopelessness is exactly what Marcuse and his pals wanted to bring about. It is what critical theory was for. We have to resist that we all we have on a personal and social level.

  • @DumblyBrilliant unless rational discourse is futile, there is not need to talk about a "culture war" or exclicitly advocating the exclusion from entery or participation in institutions of those who think differently. to express yourself in such a way seems to me means that your convicccions come from sheer whim. and even though you'd like to avoid violence, if rational argumentation is irrellevant, violence is only one step away.

  • @dhyanamooch What do you believe feminism is? I only ask this because there is a common misconception in the media of what exactly constitutes feminism.

  • @DumblyBrilliant The Frankfurt school aimed to undermine western society through the homosexual revolution, feminism, and advocation of illegal drugs? Lol.

    Redneck radar, beep beep!

  • Can we have these guys fight?

  • Magee would win because Marcuse has been decaying for some 20 years.

  • new upload! and what an upload! many thanks, flame0430.

  • Thank you for posting this. We have a Critical Theory circle at my University and they will be delighted.

  • it is surprising and disappointing that jurgen habermas and his work is not mentioned

  • What a villainous old waffler!

  • Yes, the student activists of the sixties railed against inequality and injustice, against oppression and war and apartheid and the destructive tendencies of capitalist society with its consumerist and materialist values. These pernicious characteristics of modern society have only grown worse with the burgeoning of neo-liberal and global capitalism. So where is todays revolutionary youth? Indeed, where are the revolutionary old who marched with revolutionary banners in their youth?

  • "So where is todays revolutionary youth?"

I would say rather that the 68er's, having waged a Jacobin war of social destruction, have unwittingly achieved a Jacobin uniformity of consumers and dollar chasers.

  • One can see, throughout this interview, Magee reflecting the views, attitudes and values of the establishment though I do not think this is contrived or intentional. For example, he talks about the year 1968 being the high point of student violence [sic] rather than student activism. The choice of the term 'violence' rather than 'activism' is a linguistic technique of manipulation of just the sort Marcuse alludes to when he discusses the control of consciousness (in part 2).

  • Thanks for posting this. Do you have the interview with Charles Taylor in the same series?

  • Thanks for posting this. I'm currently reading Marcuse One-Dimensional Man and this is proving to be an excellent resource to gather Marcuse's opinions, so that I can understand his philosophical position better. Just one more point: What is MonkeyMagic88's problem? He seems to have misunderstood how to not come across as a total racist bigot. Well done mate.

  • The truth hurts.

  • Agreed. The Judeo-Marxist takeover of ethnic Christian, western civilization is indeed a tragedy and caused great harm to many. Now we live in a Soros-Rockefeller world, dominated by central banksters, exploiters and seemingly endless wars.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this!

  • This was broadcast on the BBC in 1987, as far as I cab find out. Personally, I highly recommend Magee's personal take on Philosophy and the limitations of academic philosophy in his book - "Confessions of a Philosopher: A Personal Journey".

  • It must have been broadcast before that: Marcuse died in 1979.
