  • Noooo. It just stopped!!

  • Takes me back to happy days, if only I'd realised then that Nogbag was really Thatcher the Snatcher in disguise :-) tee hee hee

  • This is very good children's television made on a limited budget, in fact to say that it's very good is an understatement. However, I think this would have had more impact if it had been in black and white.

  • The memories the music and Oliver's voice invoke take me back to a cold winters teatime in the early 70's as I sat with my sister and listened to Oliver's hypnotic voice as he told us about "the lands to the north, where the black rocks stand guard against the cold sea" and of a tribe of Norsemen sitting by a roaring fire telling tales.

Absolutely magic, his skill as a story teller remains unsurpassed.

  • Thanks Oliver Postgate with his voice it wouldnt of been the same...oh and were has all those years gone "/

  • @LokiV It only seems like yesterday doesn't it?

  • Wonderful. Thank you.

  • a true classic.

    still scary. o.O

  • He Wa Not Hidden Well..He Failed :D!

  • tremendous

  • Cool story! I've been thinking: Is it just because we were younger then and everything seemed to much more vivid and immediate, or has so much TV really deteriorated? Well, there's not much kids story telling as sophisticated as this! These days it's all just attempts to brain-wash out kids into behaving the way we want them to. Well hey, don't old fables serve that purpose so much better, more poignantly and with greater imagination and inspiration?

  • y esto ke o ke??

  • Oliver Postgate was a complete and utter genius.

  • Oliver Postgate <3

  • thanks for that 10/10

please come rate my origional music my first 2 tunes !!

    download for free x

  • that was it marmalade atkins xxx

  • anyone remember a prog with a ginger haired who now days would be classed as adhd.....marmalde something

  • @jaynies1

I think you mean marmalde atkins!

  • Yeah i remember that, classic 80's kids show. Was on the news a while back as the actress who played her sadly died recently

  • I was a toddler when I used to watch this and Nogbad was so scary I used to cry behing the sofa!

  • :-)

  • What can I say, that has not already been said. In todays world, we have lost something special, and this programme shows just a bit of it. All the computer graphics on earth, haven't given us any kids programme yet, to beat this one.

  • wasn't on Blue Peter originally?

  • I'm not sure but you've got me thinking now! I remember Bleep and Booster? and marmalade sandwiches!

  • Peter Firmin, as I recall, was the narrator of Noggin the Nog. At times, like at 1:28 onwards, his narration used to scare the crap out of me, and Nogbad the Bad REALLY used to scare me. I don't believe this was ever on Blue Peter, but I know Bleep and Booster was. It was a serialisation of 313 five minute episodes shown between 1963 and 1977 (according to Wikipedia). All I have to do is close my eyes and it is there, funny how some things stay there forever... Nice post by the way.

  • @ChunkyStab Wow! I remember Bleep and Booster too, used to think I was going mad and imagined I'd watched them, but you just confirmed I did see them on Blue Peter, not very often mind. :-)

  • Absolutely amazing.

I was transfixed as I was when I was a child. Best story teller ever.

    MOAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need more pls!

  • Apologies for not commenting when I faved it. A beautiful gem that will stay with so many of us who enjoyed it back then, and still do. I think it helped open a lot of minds to a world of imagination and speculation, even before a lot of unrepentant hippes started spreading their evil message through late 60s-early 70s kids' TV. :)

  • That music, that artwork and ofcourse THAT voice...timeless!

  • Weren't they just? Thanks for commenting. CS

  • Thanks for posting.

  • was a great program

  • Hi, I agree with all the comments before mine. What a pity this series, and the rest of them, were never repeated. Noggin the Nog seems, in my experience, to have been EVERYBODY'S favourite. And as for Oliver's voice... Pure golden treacle. Warm and reasuring, and, at the same time, authoritive and fatherly. And what immaginations he and Peter must have had to create so many, diverse, characters. R.I.P. Mr Postgate, you were more loved than you can possibly have imagined.

  • Noggin the Nog was great. :-D

  • Thank you Oliver

  • Yes, RIP Mr Postgate, and Noggin the Nog was my favourite, but I don't agree exactly that they don't make TV like that any more. Wallace and Gromit and other Aardman stuff are in the same line of gentle, whimsical stop-motion, albeit more hi-tech and high budget, and Nick Park told Oliver Postgate that it was Ivor the Engine that got him into animation in the first place.

  • RIP Oliver. You left behind so many wonderful kids tv shows. I spent many hours watching them, my cousins did too. Thanks to DVD and digital media, and the internet, many generations will continue to enjoy your work.

  • I still have this on video from when I was little, it rocked then and rocks now, when I am old and gray... I am going to FORCE MY GRANDCHILDREN TO WATCH IT AND LOVE IT!

  • I feel a big part of my childhood has died today and I've felt very sad all day, goodbye and thank you Mr Postgate, your genius will live on.

  • The world is a sadder place today. RIP Mr Postgate and thanks for the great memories.

  • RIP Oliver Postgate - a genius

  • 1968 Russia invaded Czechoslovakia

    the D Olivera controversy

I saw Noggin the Nog for the first time

NOGGIN THE NOG IVOR THE ENGINE BAGPUSS

POGLES THEY DONT MAKE EM LIKE THAT ANY MORE

  • The world is a sadder place today. We have lost a genius :(

  • RIP Oliver Postgate. They don't make children's telly like they used to!

  • Thank you, Mr. Postgate. Rest in peace.

  • Wonderful Story telling, simple and evocative with that hint of the sinister which always gave it an edge, not surpassed in forty years.

Show it to your grandchildren so they can show it to their grandchildren!

  • RIP to this wonderful man who was the voice of my childhood. Noggin the Nog was sublime. He will be missed.

  • Thank you Oliver wherever you are - you shaped childhoods everywhere...

  • A light has gone out in the world but Oliver has left us a beautiful legacy. He will not be forgotten.

  • Us nearing pensions owe alot of of memories to Mr Postgate

  • Respect to Firmin and Postgate!

    Real stories,brilliant!

  • i always found Noggin the Nog a bit spooky when growing up. does anyone remember Porus the Woodcutter from the 1960s?

  • You probably mean Paulus the Woodgnome. It was a spooky puppet show with Eucalypta the witch.

  • Today I have discovered Noggin, Tales of the Riverbank and Captain Pugwash - all on Youtube. Wonderful, wonderful stuff! It feels like Christmas! Thank you so much for posting these videos.

  • Thanks mate.

  • Oliver Postgate's voice brings back great memories

  • Thanks Rubba... sorry Jubba. May have something special coming soon, if you like OP's voice.

  • It's incredible, can anybody find more? I remember the one where they go through the ice tunnel and find the ice dragon, and the one where they go to india or arabia. It's terrifying, and it's so stylised, I love it.

  • try networkdvd they have the original DVD recently available but not for long. Try the Dragon's friendly society also. They pursuaded OP to release them onto DVD so it'd be nice to support him. Classic Original stuff. Thanks for commenting spidersandwich.

  • I have The Ice Dragon audio on mp3

    noggin the nog rules!

  • scared the hell out of me as a child, nice to see this on you tube...well done

  • Me to, but I always had faith in Noggin. Thanks for commenting.ChunkyStab

  • I get the feeling Mark Hollis must have grown up watching this, listening to the music, and consciously or subconsciously made it a part of Talk Talk´s later sound (and his solo).

  • Good observation - I see what you mean!!

  • I watched a video of this that my parents had when I was about 4! It was the one with the ice dragon. I found it soooo scary :D

  • I still find it scary and I'm 51!

  • @Gamcal2 why?

  • My dad watched this when he was young !!!

  • Pure bliss and childhood nostalgia. That wonderful voice. Thanks for putting this up.

  • Nogbad the bad is somehow the most evil son of a bitch imaginable.

  • I had this episode on video! Nogbad used to scare me. I used to cry and have nightmares!

  • cool thats what my dad watched when he was younger !!! I think it would be somthing I would watch on T.V every day !!!

  • oh my days im 19 years old and i used to love this as a child, i still do in fact..

thankyou for putting this on here.

  • i loved this as a child.

oliver postgate is an amazing man.

    thank you!

  • Couldn't agree more Queenie. Thanks for commenting.

  • I loved this and the voice of Oliver Postgate is the soundtrack to my childhood:-)

  • i wholeheartedly agree; wonderful childhood memories of the whole world this created. Well done chunkyStab

  • was this the same time as captain pugwash?

  • It overlapped with Pugwash but was from an earlier time. All wonderful stuff though.

  • No, a little bit before but the same humour. Thanks for commenting. ChunkyStab

  • The music Is excellent!

  • The title sounds really racist!

  • in fact I take that back, never mind

  • Well, i'm 14 and i love noggin to bits. but i can kinda see where you're coming from.

  • The "nordic" feel of the fantasy would seem at odds with today's multiethnic societies. But it certainly wasn't intended as such, it just took that context as a starting-point for some rollicking tales. I think these shows were an inadvertent antidote to racism - if you can accept a big green bird or an ice-dragon into your heart how could you possibly have a problem with people of a different complexion? :)

  • Nogbad looked like Graham Hill the motorracing champion.

  • Noggin the Nog, a real favourite of mine.

    Thanks!

  • Does anyone else think Nooka is hot? Good work there Noggin!

  • Now this was weird! - based on the Viking Saga and the Lewis chessmen.

  • I've not seen this, must have been before my time or before we had a TV.

  • Yes, you need to be of a 'certain age' to influenced by this treasure. :-) Thanks for commenting.

  • Was so excited to find this, I remember I used to have a video of Noggin the Nog, the one about the ice (?) dragon and his gold. Thanks for posting.

  • Lovely stories. I didn't realise it had been out on Video. Thanks for commenting, why not subscribe?

  • mesmerising as a child

  • I didn't think you were old enough to remember! :->

  • Old enough to remember not going out till midday during the summer hols until I'd seen Noggin, Tintin, Casey Jones, White Horses etc!

  • My God, Nogbad the Bad frightened the s**t out of me as a kid and he still does! It's that voice- Oliver Postgate- the only man who could make Bagpuss scary!!!

  • That was lovely. Took me back to my childhood. haven't felt like that for years.

  • Thanks badfaht. Another jewel from the past. There's a great story behind the cartoons. OP had to be convinced to release them! Thanks for commenting

  • Absolutely brilliant. Ol' Nogbad used to frighten the s**t out of me during the summer hols. What year was this and when did they go to colour? Yes it's that voice that scares you- Oliver Postgate- the only man who could make a "big fat furry catpuss" seem scary!!!

    HAPPY DAYS.

  • Nogbad the Bad. A more sinister being there never was!

  • Nogbad always reminded me of Graham Hill, the motor racing champion.

  • BINGO LOL. I knew I'd seen him somewhere before!

The voice is similar as well! AND you never see them in the same room together!! :-)

  • Used to love this. What also strikes me now, is how beautifully read the stories are. Whoevers reading, Peter or Oliver, they add so much to the atmosphere of Noggin's world.

  • I agree...Great Stories!

Poor old Uncle Nogbad...No matter how hard he tries, he will never get that crown off Noggin...haha!!

  • Smashing series. These were more innocent times. I love these stories.

  • lovely to see this again....add more pls
