@marilynr46 Just in case you put your faith on politicians . This is what Obama said in 2008: “If I don’t have this done in three years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition” Barack Hussein Obama
@jaiba41 This blog is about Elizabeth Warren. Not Barack Obama. Who cares anyways. The Republicans in Congress promised jobs. Instead, they decided to obstruct Obama. So they are part of the reason Obama hasn't done what he said he would. Why don't you post something about that.

@jaiba41 Yes, Democrats are in bed with Wall Street. I get that. To say that the Republicans are the answer is like saying a bullet wound is the cure for cancer. All capitalists support crony capitalism when it profits them. Any succesful capitalist will sacrifice his ideology for profit, that is there nature.

Oh, I see. And George Washington was just a stooge of the British Crown. And Teddy Roosevelt was just another proponent of corporate consolidation. And Upton Sinclair was a PR man for the meat-packing industry. And Martin Luther King, Jr., was just another Uncle Tom. And Ralph Nader is just another apologist for corporate corner-cutting and greed. And Ronald Reagan was a communist. Did I miss any?
@jaiba41 There is a word for capitalists that do not use every tool available to them to achieve success, and that word is "failure". Only yesterday, my free market loving cousin posted on Facebook: "When you are investing leave your ideology at the door. Just make money." The capitalist that looks for cheaper ways of doing things will usually win out, whether that means asking the government for money or sending jobs to China. That's why it's called capitalism.
@TheAmazingMorse There is a word for socialists as well. It is called "PARASITES". Unlike you, I happen to know folks in welfare and food stamps who scam the government ALL THE TIME and celebrate their wittiness. SOCIALISM, in the immortal words of STALIN: "would engineer the proletariats' souls". It turns them into PARASITES.
@jaiba41 Do you people go to meetings in order to all learn to talk exactly alike or are you so effectively brainwashed that you do it subconsciously? There are a million of you out there who use the exact same buzzwords and argue in the same fashion. And you get stuck in the same loop of an agument that you can't break out of. It's like arguing with a computer operated voice mail. Try reading something that wasn't written in the last 50 years, it might help.
SURPRISE! I AM A LATINO (IMMIGRANT). WE COULD NOT BE BRAINSWAHED BY THE BOOKS YOU ARE REFERRING TO. WE HAD NO ACCESS TO THEM. THEY WERE EITHER NOT AVAILABLE OR OUTLAWED. WE LIVED YOUR "SOCIALIST UTOPIAN SOCIETY" AND IT SUCKS!!!
@jaiba41 Pardon my not being able to understand what you have written in Spanish, but I believe you are saying that you are from Venezuela? When did you live "my socialist utopian society" there? When did I say that I was a socialist? When did I say that I was anti-fire just for suggesting that fire is good but that it should be contained within a hearth? Your reaction is more akin to the terrorist who calls anyone an infidel anyone who remotely disagrees with them.
@TheAmazingMorse Ad hominem attacks and name calling is the last refuge of lost causes (or debates as in this case). State intervention (or the "hearth" as you referred to in your analogy) by any name, is still Socialism. It's founded on the basis of envy and hate. Occupy Wall Street aggresiveness is proof of that. Finally, " You don't know what you have until you loose it". At the end your political philosophy will win over. You will beat the "evil" free markets. You will be poorer for it thou
OMG she is a nut and a lawyer! Small to mid size companies did not get bailouts nor did we ask for a bailout. The Federal Reserve is the engine of inflation...told by Ron Paul!
@letzteschlact2 Why do people keep repeating this LIE about the banks repaying their debt for the bailouts? Where have you been for the past 3 years? Securely ensconced in Rupert Murdoch's warm marsupial pouch no doubt.. Read the TARP wikipedia page, see it for yourself.
What have they done with the money they've received except spend it on lobbyists and CEO bonuses? Don't forget those debit card fees BofA is charging the public. Why do you defend the scum of the earth with lies?
@Talleyrander ... Most of the funds have been repaid. Profits alone from the CitiGroup investment have already exceeded $5 billion and may reach as high as $20 billion. The Bush TARP worked; Obama, Pelosi, Reid version failed miserably. Where have YOU been for the past 3 years, studying economics in Barney Franks pants ???
@letzteschlact2 Now you qualify and backtrack by saying "most of the funds" have been paid back. Too bad you didn't put that little qualifier in your original post.
And you can actually type in good conscience that "the Bush TARP worked" and Obama's did not? NONE of them have worked. If so, credit would have been unfrozen by now. The banks are sitting on piles of cash. The only difference between the two bailouts is that Bush allowed CEOs to collect huge bonuses for FAILURE.
@letzteschlact2 I am glad I can school you about the fake world in which you live. Don't be afraid to pick up a book and read it some time so you don't come on the internet and embarrass yourself. I know how books are like Cod Liver Oil to you Tea Baggers.
CNN concurs with the Fed that says the government earned a 10 billion dollar profit from the loans provided to these companies just 3 years later. So supposedly they made money for the Tax Payer.
This is such shit. All corporations EXIST to make a profit; both big and small. The real problem is when corporate welfare comes into play- when we pay them to fail. No corporation owes any of you a damn thing, and just think about it for a second: When was the last time a corporation forced you to buy their product?
Wuah??? Everyone exists to make a profit, Ham, otherwise we wouldn't have money to feed or clothe. Being that your employer is an old Norse god, do think he would keep you if you messed up a job? Na, he'd replace you with one that works.
@HammerOvThor "When was the last time a corporation forced you to buy their product"
You ignorant, ignorant buffoon. We live in a society, we aren't subsistent farmers who don't need anyone else.
In a developed country, a citizen specializes in a specific task; banker, teacher, graphic designer, architect. Follow?
You need to buy EVERYTHING IN YOUR LIFE FROM A CORPORATION. A corporation is essentially a fiscal gang where money is pooled together to bully out all out competition. Is this news?
@thiennguyenX2 This is news! You see, all this time I had thought that corporations had to COMPETE with each other in order to attract more costumers, leaving the costumers in the better position. For instance, technology is unsubsidized, and all these companies like Microsoft and Apple have to constantly make their products cheaper and better to compete with each other. This puts the costumer in the better position. The answer to my previous question is never, by the way.
@HammerOvThor Totally man. When I want some broadband in San Diego, I go right to all the competin---.. oh right. We have had one major broadband service provider here for a decade (until recently) because they don't need to compete with each other. When I need water/electric I have a host o--- oh right, again, only SDG&E because utilities don't need to compete either.
I'm tired of driving so I'll take the trai-- oh right, the auto lobby decimated mass the transit system in San Diego.
@HammerOvThor It is logistically impossible to avoid a corporation in modern society - for you to throw this argument about how they don't hold a gun to your head making you buy things from them is incredibly naive. Your solution to not buy from them and live as monks is fine - but sucks if you want broadband, groceries (we're can't all shop at farmer's markets and grow all that we may want/need to eat unless we deprive ourselves), cars (can't build this, can't ride non-existent mass transit).
@HammerOvThor ...the problem with corporations is that they are nodes of power, heavily concentrated fiscal power. Unlike an actual right person that owns a business or a store within a community, a corp. is not a person.
It is only an arm of investors and it has no conscious and its only motivation is money.
Unlike a person, it 1) holds exponentially more capital/power.
2) It has no roots in the community it 'serves': shareholders are Saudis/Chinese
@HammerOvThor Frankly, a multinational corp has no loyalty to any country but to that of capital, end of story. No hometown it grew up in and no sentiments or patriotism to any country. When it outsources every single job it answers to no country, no complaining citizens, and no politicians because those same politicans require corporate money to win elections.
It's just so ignorant to hear someone say that the corporations aren't a problem when they are the fiscal warlords of the age.
@thiennguyenX2 You haven't addressed the fundamental issue that corporations don't owe you anything. If a corporation goes overseas to employ, it has every right to. All a corporation is is a collection of people organizing in their private capacity to make a profit; they should be able to do this however they wish as long as they aren't infringing upon peoples' basic rights. Now, there is the question of how to invite jobs back here from overseas, and if you ask me, the only way is to free up
@thiennguyenX2 the markets and put an end to corporate welfare and the welfare state. The government has been in bed with the corporations for too long, and it's these kinds of Federalist policies that Thomas Jefferson fought all his life. You see, the problem with your thinking is that it's reactionary- you see corporations making money and you see people who are dying of hunger and you conclude that it must be the fault of the corporations. Before you insult me, read some economic literature-

You see, the problem with your thinking is that it's reactionary- you see corporations making money and you see people who are dying of hunger and you conclude that it must be the fault of the corporations. Before you insult me, read some economic literature-
@HammerOvThor So that's the conclusion you draw? Why would I care if a corporations making money while there are people suffering? Why would I hold that against them? Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are richest of the rich for decades now, during which time there have been MORE poor people on planet earth and I hold nothing against them.
My problem with many corps, if you can't understand from all the text here already, is that they contribute to our fiscal problems. Require more text?

@thiennguyenX2 No corporation has ever put a gun to your head and told you to buy from them and not the competition. On the flip side of that, If you WERE to become a self-sufficient farmer, and you could, corporations couldn't tell you to buy from them, but the government would FORCE you to pay taxes. Does that make sense? I mean I know you must be sick of your shitty job and you must want to blame these corporations for all your woes, but the time comes when a man has to take responsibility.
@HammerOvThor Yes, it makes perfect sense. We do not HAVE to go to Wal-Mart or Home Depot to get what we want.
But when the corporation is so well-funded that it is able to outperform all other competition (mom and pops), where the hell do you go to buy your groceries?
Grow them yourself? Are you seriously fucking suggesting this? Want me to take you less seriously?
Drive 100+ miles to nearest mom and pop for tools as a New Yorker? Lovely argument, fuck logistics right?
@HammerOvThor I'm not saying corps are evil, they are in fact a function of progress. Microsoft/Apple/Intel/Facebook could not have existed without going public. But through corps, Saudis/Chinese/Russians and lots of other foreigners have a huge say in how our country is shaped. Does that not worry you?
Why the hell would you need spies when it's completely legal to funnel influence through a corp. and affecting policy?
Citizens United has made money laundering legal, it's insanity.
Elizabeth Warren is a hero for the middle class. Those who believe that corporate America is on their side are deluded. And, don't confuse corportate America with small business owners. Corporate America only cares about their bottom line -- not the middle class, not it's workers -- pure and simple the MONEY. More profit at any expense to you and I. Elizabeth Warren is trying to protect the middle class. Why don't you get that?
@lukenlucy The term "corporate America" is rather misleading seeing as these corporations are owned by the ultra rich who are citizens of their own worlds. They may be Chinese, Saudi Arabian, Mexican, French in nationality and citizenship but the belong only to the ultra elite club of plutocrats not 'normal' people.
Corporate America does not have the interest of Americans in mind, they are parasites who only care to keep its host alive to leech off of but care not if it thrives.
Double D's, nothing to ideological about right vs wrong. The meltdown we had proved that were doing something wrong, so can we expect to make things right by walking down that same path. Don't use the ideology card, it just makes you look stupid.
Ignorant traitor, communist, marxist, reprobate, liberal, degenerate bitch. Just crawl up that butterfly brained ape's ass you got shit out of, obango.
Thank goodness the president in his infinite wisdom did NOT appoint her to head the consumer agency during a Congressional recess. It might've cost him the election! G0bama 2012!! 4 more years of unnecessary negotiations over raising the debt ceiling admist 9% unemployment!!
@ReElectBarack0bama I will predict the 2012 election outcomes. President Obama will not be reelected unfortunately. But Elizabeth Warren will be elected to the United States Senate. She is like the Ron Paul of the Democratic party. Obama is now on the other end of the spectrum. Now that being said, Obama didnt inherit anything. He "volenteered" to fix the economy along with Geitner and thus far they have been unsucsessful. It is what it is, thats it.. thats all of it.
@cmonty72 ME TOO!!! I think she speaks the truth. Witch is why she won't get much power or authority. Leaders can't have someone telling the truth the public, or trying to get legislation passed..
Bank shareholders "profiting"... lady you haven't owned any bankstock lately. AIG Policy holders eg. Goldman should have been forced to take a "haircut" on the CDS "policies"(I agree with her on that).I try not to infer dark motives but the AIG counterparties should have been made to take less than 100 cents on the dollar.
In 1970 there was PR campaign that laid the ground work for all of financial problems we have had from 1975 to now. It was the statement that the private sector can do it better then the government sector and for the government to stop regulating and deregulate get the government nose out of private sector. Every one was saying it. It made no sense then and it makes no sense now.
Giving away money to bail out business with out strings. Replacing the people who got that business into trouble in the first place. What a bunch of shit.
There's a reason why the ordinary people like her: She's able to reword & explain *creative* financial & legal terms & expressions in ordinary English. As she said, except for the obvious fact that terms like CDOs & "exotic financial instruments" were manufactured specifically to confuse/confound, giving the creators an edge, it's not rocket science. Rewording such fancy terms & it's easy to understand. There's no magic in or about them that'd prevent the ordinary person from understanding...
All banks are owned by a central world bank. The banksters of the world only payed there self and used there bought and payed for government to do the bidding for them.
The most fundamental question of all: What is the underlying law of nature.
As the way of all things, what effect do you suppose its question, knowledge, understanding and application by billions of persons would have on the state of global economics, science, the humanities, education, government and business?

WE LIVED YOUR "SOCIALIST UTOPIAN SOCIETY" AND IT SUCKS!!!
jaiba41 4 months ago
@jaiba41 Pardon my not being able to understand what you have written in Spanish, but I believe you are saying that you are from Venezuela? When did you live "my socialist utopian society" there? When did I say that I was a socialist? When did I say that I was anti-fire just for suggesting that fire is good but that it should be contained within a hearth? Your reaction is more akin to the terrorist who calls anyone an infidel anyone who remotely disagrees with them.
TheAmazingMorse 4 months ago
@TheAmazingMorse Ad hominem attacks and name calling is the last refuge of lost causes (or debates as in this case). State intervention (or the "hearth" as you referred to in your analogy) by any name, is still Socialism. It's founded on the basis of envy and hate. Occupy Wall Street aggresiveness is proof of that. Finally, " You don't know what you have until you loose it". At the end your political philosophy will win over. You will beat the "evil" free markets. You will be poorer for it thou

Talleyrander 4 months ago
@Talleyrander ... Most of the funds have been repaid. Profits alone from the CitiGroup investment have already exceeded $5 billion and may reach as high as $20 billion. The Bush TARP worked; Obama, Pelosi, Reid version failed miserably. Where have YOU been for the past 3 years, studying economics in Barney Franks pants ???
letzteschlact2 4 months ago
@letzteschlact2 Now you qualify and backtrack by saying "most of the funds" have been paid back. Too bad you didn't put that little qualifier in your original post.
And you can actually type in good conscience that "the Bush TARP worked" and Obama's did not? NONE of them have worked. If so, credit would have been unfrozen by now. The banks are sitting on piles of cash. The only difference between the two bailouts is that Bush allowed CEOs to collect huge bonuses for FAILURE.

This is such shit. All corporations EXIST to make a profit; both big and small. The real problem is when corporate welfare comes into play- when we pay them to fail. No corporation owes any of you a damn thing, and just think about it for a second: When was the last time a corporation forced you to buy their product?
HammerOvThor 5 months ago
@HammerOvThor

Is this news?
thiennguyenX2 5 months ago
@thiennguyenX2 This is news! You see, all this time I had thought that corporations had to COMPETE with each other in order to attract more costumers, leaving the costumers in the better position. For instance, technology is unsubsidized, and all these companies like Microsoft and Apple have to constantly make their products cheaper and better to compete with each other. This puts the costumer in the better position. The answer to my previous question is never, by the way.
HammerOvThor 5 months ago
@HammerOvThor Totally man. When I want some broadband in San Diego, I go right to all the competin---.. oh right. We have had one major broadband service provider here for a decade (until recently) because they don't need to compete with each other. When I need water/electric I have a host o--- oh right, again, only SDG&E because utilities don't need to compete either.
I'm tired of driving so I'll take the trai-- oh right, the auto lobby decimated mass the transit system in San Diego.
thiennguyenX2 5 months ago
@HammerOvThor It is logistically impossible to avoid a corporation in modern society - for you to throw this argument about how they don't hold a gun to your head making you buy things from them is incredibly naive. Your solution to not buy from them and live as monks is fine - but sucks if you want broadband, groceries (we're can't all shop at farmer's markets and grow all that we may want/need to eat unless we deprive ourselves), cars (can't build this, can't ride non-existent mass transit).
thiennguyenX2 5 months ago
@thiennguyenX2 Exactly- my argument is that corporations aren't the problem, seeing as they provide us with a service that we willingly make use of.
HammerOvThor 5 months ago
@HammerOvThor ...the problem with corporations is that they are nodes of power, heavily concentrated fiscal power. Unlike an actual right person that owns a business or a store within a community, a corp. is not a person.
It is only an arm of investors and it has no conscious and its only motivation is money.
Unlike a person, it 1) holds exponentially more capital/power.
2) It has no roots in the community it 'serves': shareholders are Saudis/Chinese
3) It has too much influence.
Problem.
thiennguyenX2 5 months ago
@HammerOvThor Frankly, a multinational corp has no loyalty to any country but to that of capital, end of story. No hometown it grew up in and no sentiments or patriotism to any country. When it outsources every single job it answers to no country, no complaining citizens, and no politicians because those same politicans require corporate money to win elections.
It's just so ignorant to hear someone say that the corporations aren't a problem when they are the fiscal warlords of the age.
thiennguyenX2 5 months ago
@thiennguyenX2 You haven't addressed the fundamental issue that corporations don't owe you anything. If a corporation goes overseas to employ, it has every right to. All a corporation is is a collection of people organizing in their private capacity to make a profit; they should be able to do this however they wish as long as they aren't infringing upon peoples' basic rights. Now, there is the question of how to invite jobs back here from overseas, and if you ask me, the only way is to free up

HammerOvThor 5 months ago
@HammerOvThor Yes, it makes perfect sense. We do not HAVE to go to Wal-Mart or Home Depot to get what we want.
But when the corporation is so well-funded that it is able to outperform all other competition (mom and pops), where the hell do you go to buy your groceries?
Grow them yourself? Are you seriously fucking suggesting this? Want me to take you less seriously?
Drive 100+ miles to nearest mom and pop for tools as a New Yorker? Lovely argument, fuck logistics right?
thiennguyenX2 5 months ago

Why don't you get that?
lukenlucy 5 months ago
@lukenlucy She's fucking nuts.
Weasler455 5 months ago
@lukenlucy The term "corporate America" is rather misleading seeing as these corporations are owned by the ultra rich who are citizens of their own worlds. They may be Chinese, Saudi Arabian, Mexican, French in nationality and citizenship but the belong only to the ultra elite club of plutocrats not 'normal' people.
Corporate America does not have the interest of Americans in mind, they are parasites who only care to keep its host alive to leech off of but care not if it thrives.

I think people who are upset about seeing familiar names in the Treasury Department are missing the whole point:
With Bush as "the decider", the Titanic was steaming straight for the iceberg at top speed.
With Obama at the helm, we've slowed down and avoided the iceberg and we're slowly turning the ship in a better direction.
Same country, better leadership.
People who are contemplating putting the Republicans back in charge now have some kind of death wish.
