this product will face the resistance of the celuloid and printing industry...its like the electric cars, they are here but why do we still use fossil fuel? The answer is... the LOBBYS.
Cool, but we can't just get rid of books. We need them. We need somthing actually written down on paper, that can't be edited in the future or erased. We need that history.
Also, e-paper has been out for several months now yet it's barely known around the globe. Hardly anyone in canada has even HEARD of it unless they've watched the new tom cruise movie which had it as a prop
@VicShowZ9 If it would mean that, then it's still wouldn't make any sense. Is it 17 watts during an hour (17 Wh) or, for example, a second (0.0047 Wh)?
Watt is a unit of power and power is the RATE at which work is performed or energy is converted.
Yes, and units of time are arbitrary, just like units of distance (foot, hectometer, block, handspan, crow flies). The time measured doesn't have to be standard like in hours or seconds, it can be measured in the time it takes to make one sheet of paper. It could be 17W(time span it takes to make one sheet), let's call it 3 seconds if you wish (though it probably isn't that even or that long). Then it would come out to 17*1200Wh if you put it in a standard format.
@AV3NG3R00 You just took a debate about apples and tried to relate it to state capitols instead of apple juice or apple sauce.
We were discussing how power usage is a rate, which involves time. My point is that time units are arbitrary. They do not have to be units of 1 hour or 1 second. Many logic problems involving rates WILL give you the problem in a different unit to make sure you know how to convert it into a more familiar unit.
@VicShowZ9 I was trying to point out that instead of taking a familiar rate like 1 second (or per second) you could assume the time unit of the rate was the length of time it took to make one piece of paper. For example it takes 200 milliseconds for the machine to make each piece of paper. Therefore instead of Killowatt hours the rate would be 17 Killowatts per 200 milliseconds or 17/200 Killowattmilliseconds or if you prefer [(17/200)*1000*60*60] KWh.
Perhaps give a few more examples VicShow. I've always been of the understanding that measurements of power consumption (energy) were either in Wh or J.
@AV3NG3R00 Even if you want Wh or kWh, but you get your data in units slightly different from single hours, you can always convert. In my exmaple I used the unit of time it takes to make one piece of paper and converted it to hours.
Ths is a very strange argument though. Although valid, the guy in the video probably just made an error in not mentioning the unit of time.
Yeh, okay that makes sense. I just wasn't getting you at first. But regardless, the poster did make an error. But yeh, You could have 7Wseconds and it wouldn't matter.
After less than 6 months, my iRex Iliad began to fail. It will jump 15 to 20 pages at a time, no longer connect to my PC and the battery life is down to 5 hours from 15 hours.
iRex is stonewalling me about the repairs and ignores my repeated questions. Never buy anything from iRex.
E paper is the future do you know how many pages a college book contains lol.Just imagine how much paper this would save in the class rooms and for the world.
@thricemin - It would be cool, but I think the publishers will want a lot of DRM on digital books, and I'd hate to spend hundreds of dollars on a device that can only be used for DRM-approved content.

"To produce one new sheet of paper consumes 17 Watts of power"
Wtf? How can you measure it in Watts (joule per second)?
LolPomps 2 years ago
I suppose it's talking about the power consumption of the machines used to produce one sheet of paper
fedaykin21 2 years ago
@fedaykin21 of course it is talking about it but how the hell can you measure it in watts? 17 watts during what time?
LolPomps 2 years ago
@LolPomps Maybe they mean in the time it takes to create one sheet of e-paper the machine making it consumes 17watts of power?

You're not making any sense VicShow...
It's the same as saying that the length of a piece of paper is 30 km/h. Makes absolutely no sense...

@VicShowZ9 I don't know the actual lenght of time it takes to make one sheet of E-paper, so that was just an example.
I think LolPomps understood what I was saying 3 months ago and that's why we ended that.

@VicShowZ9 Oops, sorry I put the parentheses in the wrong place, I meant [17/(200*1000*60*60)]kWh.
