I cannot believe there is not a single comment referencing FA Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom." In the book, Hayek argues that all socialism (communist, fascist, etc.) eventually leads to tyranny because of the system's inherent need for central planning. Because a central planning body is unable to coordinate the economy to the extent to which a free market can, the demand for a leader to dictate decisions is eventually voiced. Because of this, you no longer have a say and your freedoms erode.
Communism fails because every time people have a choice between freedom and authoritarianism, they take freedom. And when they learn what freedom is like and don't have it, they try to get it. As we are seeing in the Middle East.

Nearly the entirety of the rest of human history has been dominated by some form of state control which creates perpetual poverty. Less than a hundred years ago, Asia was as poor as Africa. Most Asian countries embraced at least some free market principles and prospered while state controlled Africa withers.

First, many Asian countries were colonized by Europeans, but managed to succeed anyway; just look at Hong Kong. Why? Because they opened up their markets. Corporations that work within a free market are a boon to African countries. Look at countries like Botswana with a free market compared to Zimbabwe with one of the least free economies in the world.

I also think that wage slavery has its down sides, and workers are often exploited through capitalist expansion and improving revenue... I think all systems of economy and political institutions are inherently flawed, some more than others but I do agree that capitalism is the most functional and progressive.

The reason why is generally because the corporation gets some kind of a deal with that nation's government; the more involved in the economy a government is, the worse this happens. The corporations are to blame, but so too are the governments. One final experiment: look up the Economic Freedom Index, and then look up GDP per capita or the HDI index and compare them.
Africa is not in ruins because being in ruins implies that they were once something that they no longer are which is untrue. Before the white westerns came there they didn't even have a written language. Capitalism creates wealth and innovation and has lifted hundreds of million of people out of preexisting poverty where many still remain. 1% of Americans do not hold 90% of the wealth. A basic understanding in finance would serve you well. 1% of Americans own 90% in stock of the nations wealth.

The CPK was formed from former ICP members and militant nationalists from France like Pol Pot. The repression by the monarchists forced the party underground, and most former ICP members left to North Vietnam. The Rouge only used communist rhetoric to win over the peasantry.

Whereas capitalist countries were suffering from the Great Depression, the USSR was increasing its industrial capacity at 13% per annum.
The USSR collapsed because they were broke. Any industrial gains you speak of were drastically overstated by Stalin and cost million and millions of lives.

I cannot believe there is not a single comment referencing FA Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom." In the book, Hayek argues that all socialism (communist, fascist, etc.) eventually leads to tyranny because of the system's inherent need for central planning. Because a central planning body is unable to coordinate the economy to the extent to which a free market can, the demand for a leader to dictate decisions is eventually voiced. Because of this, you no longer have a say and your freedoms erode.

@remainsforgotten89 Capitalism has really only been around for a few hundred years, and is marked by the huge increase of wealth and standard of living in the 19th and 20th centuries. Nearly the entirety of the rest of human history has been dominated by some form of state control which creates perpetual poverty. Less than a hundred years ago, Asia was as poor as Africa. Most Asian countries embraced at least some free market principles and prospered while state controlled Africa withers.

First, many Asian countries were colonized by Europeans, but managed to succeed anyway; just look at Hong Kong. Why? Because they opened up their markets. Corporations that work within a free market are a boon to African countries. Look at countries like Botswana with a free market compared to Zimbabwe with one of the least free economies in the world.

The reason why is generally because the corporation gets some kind of a deal with that nation's government; the more involved in the economy a government is, the worse this happens. The corporations are to blame, but so too are the governments. One final experiment: look up the Economic Freedom Index, and then look up GDP per capita or the HDI index and compare them.

Before the white westerns came there they didn't even have a written language. Capitalism creates wealth and innovation and has lifted hundreds of million of people out of preexisting poverty where many still remain. 1% of Americans do not hold 90% of the wealth. A basic understanding in finance would serve you well. 1% of Americans own 90% in stock of the nations wealth.

That is delusional because scarcity of resources and innovation causes competition for most efficient use of those resources. With the winners decided by free choice of the most efficient or what ever the consumer of that resource desires.
In a communist society one group starts pumping oil by hand the other uses steam power. The first group produces less per man hour and other people go to the second group to get their oil. The first group accuses them of competition..how does this work out

The economic realities of Marxism is combined with the realities of the human heart means that communism always leads to some sort of totalitarianism. The soviet union was still killing and jailing dissidents and relying on slave labor well into the 1980s.

Jontype, that wasn't communism. Please don't slander concepts before reading up on them + history. If you really read about the opionions/support etc. of Khmer Rouge you would in fact notice that they didn't have the slightest in common with even the most authoritarian strands of Leninism. It was a movement by the landowners, petty-bourgeoisie, colonial assets and others to control Cambodia from its periphery through violence.

The CPK was formed from former ICP members and militant nationalists from France like Pol Pot. The repression by the monarchists forced the party underground, and most former ICP members left to North Vietnam. The Rouge only used communist rhetoric to win over the peasantry.
The bombing killed 600 thousand, the Rouge killed 200 to 300 thousand. It doesn't matter what numbers we sling,the KR were produced by the bombing of Vietnam and were supported financially by the US for years.

The Khmer Rouge was the purest form of communism ever instituted. All money was abolished, all class enemies were rooted out and killed, all property was made communal. If a person dared to grow a potato, that was interpreted as an act of theft against the commune. Death was the only fair communist punishment.

Marxism isn't a religion, it is a scientific tool for analysing socio-economic relations combined with its wielders desire for social justice. The Soviet Union survived until 1990 without capitalist aid (after 1953 it went revisionist, which caused its collapse) and the 1930s USSR underwent the fastest industrial growth period -- IN HUMAN HISTORY. Whereas capitalist countries were suffering from the Great Depression, the USSR was increasing its industrial capacity at 13% per annum.

The USSR collapsed because they were broke. Any industrial gains you speak of were drastically overstated by Stalin and cost million and millions of lives.
Marxism is most certainly a religion. It claims authority to explain all human motivations and history. It predicts a catastrophic defeat of its perceived enemies in a glorious moment of cosmic justice.

The growth in the 30s by the soviet union was essentially powered by slave labor and stolen western technology. Oh you thought they developed those oil fields with communist know how.
The great depressions was initiated by and lengthened by socialist government policies.
Lets not forget the grain and credit given at subsidized rate in the 60s-80s

Please offer a source for the USSR being fed during WW2. The growth in the 30s was NOT sustained by slave labour, as the gulags represented only 1% of the Soviet population (as compared to 3% in the US prison system). And no, oil fields had little to do with the development of Soviet industrial growth. Try central planning. How was the Great Depression initiated by any socialist government? Russia only received 1/3 as many loans as the UK, aka 1/18 as many $/capita. Forced relocation was 0.7% of the population, aka not enough to validate your argument. Do you expect the Soviet Union to reinvent science from the neolithic age? Every country uses common knowledge. The Great Depression was caused by lack of purchasing power for the working population, which led to a bubble because of overproduction and a subsequent crash.

Lack of purchasing power of the working population. Yet if one looks at the consumer price index you will see that the 20s were a boom time for consumer goods consumption.
The economic re adjustment in the 20s from the war boom was more sever but didn't lead to a great depression because the government under Harding did essentially nothing.
