@mdcrab68 ... Try to get them before they go to seed. Problem is once you have the seeds in the garden they'll come up for years. Use a good, sharp hoe........Donald
Donald your videos are great I just picked up a 54 inch tiller for my kubuto. I hope to make garden a lot bigger now what a blessing ... If ever in PA look us up
@jccarpet1 ... boy you are going to love that tiller. It's amazing how good a job it does. Get yourself a set of row hippers and the sky's the limit......... Donald
I started gardening this year for the first time (just out of college) and have 5 different beds. I've learned a ton from your videos. I really appreciate the tips!!!
Glad you enjoy the videos and hope they give you ideas on developing methods that are right for you. I've learned, the simpler you keep things the better....... Donald
guess by using that much transport you have put on some weight i guess you got to be more manual and try to have soem excersie as well as gardening. too lazy man.
Well after my third heart attack it did slow me down some. I keep up a 7 acre yard, 2 of which is garden. Have you ever tried growing and harvesting a 2 acre garden? If you have then you can call me lazy. Have a nice day...... Donald
sorry to have come across as rude but as a medical doctor i had no choice but to make my point there as i still think you should do as much as you can while just walking rather than using the transport veihcles. take care and look after your health. nice videas thou
IMHO a garden can be a single plant in a container to several acres big. Staying on top of things is a lot easier if you just don't let a problem like weeds / insects get out of hand. A good sharp hoe and that tiller usually does the trick on weeds. A little insecticide every now and then keeps the bugs under control. Most of the time at least. Oh, that was just one part of the garden you saw on the video...... Donald
Since I retired they have become very attached and never very far away. If I had room on the tractor they would be riding with me like on the golf cart. They do love to lay and roll in the freshly tilled soil and can get dirty. I have a large canal in the back they go swimming in several times a day so that keeps them fairly clean and also cools them off in the summer. The young one is comical and can make you laugh one minute and mad the next. She gets fussed at the most.
Good luck with the onions! I've only ever planted onions a couple of times (from bulbs) and they were scrawny and misshapened. I don't eat all that many so I buy a few at the store. By the end of the summer I'm usually happy to be finished up with the garden and ready for a little rest, LOL.
I am in awe of your property. Just awesome. I'm glad you are taking a chance with the seeds. I have learned a lot of tricks watching your vids. Thank you.
I usually plant bulbs in mid-February and it has worked out real well for me. Starting from seed is a whole new ball game. A few old timers told me they plant their bulbs in late November so if that is correct it may work out just fine.
great work there! I to am starting my onion garden along with my swiss chard. This time i am taking gardening to a whole new level in the city by growing on top of my roof.
Yes it is nice to be back in there and working it again. I thought about your rabbit problem, how about putting a wire ring like whats used with tomatoes around/over it?
i'm seeing in my mind's eye a tomato cage over the fruit. is this what you had in mind? i was thinking of getting a roll of chicken wire and making a "fenced off" section for the garden. not sure, but where i live is VERY close to a bottom thicket and VERY wild. we have all the critters real close, no gators though.
I was assuming you use tomato cages and would have one handy to try to save your last cantaloupe but I just realized that the openings on the cages would be too big to prevent a rabbit from going through. Bad idea.
How do you keep out the pigweed from coming back
