  • I said top end power, but what I meant was top end RPM.. I would lose power at the top of the RPM when the squish got too tight. I have a theory why, but not too sure.

  • Why not somehow place the solder on both sides simultaneously, to prevent erroneous readings from the slight rocking of the piston.. What I used to do was to place small balls of modeling clay in two or three points around it, and measure them. I found that on 80 to 125 CC motors I wanted .020 to .030 squish. But anytime I got smaller than .020, my top end power would sag, but low end and midrange was still good. A little more on bigger bores. I would adjust by cutting the head gasket surf.

  • @hillclimber62 That is an excellent point. I believe the book states to put the solder in a straight line with the Gungeon pin to avoid this. I had not thought about piston rocking before and I just learned something new. Thanks, RH DSD

  • you sound like Kevin Costner

  • @MCRmechanic KEVIN COSTNER IS COOL, BUT I AM COOLER...

  • Great info!!! Thank you!!!

  • squish cant give power to the engine!!!!

  • @paul39man39yo NO, YOUR RIGHT!!! WE NEED MORE COWBELL!!!!!!

  • @DIOSpeedDemon haha.if i was speaking corectly english i was capable to explain you why. the squish only eliminate spontaneous ignition and yeah, can you have more power like you say in the video but not changing the geometry of the squish but reducing the volume of the ignition chamber. however nice guide to mesure the squish..

  • Thanks I learned quite a bit. Play what you like whatever makes you happy.

  • hey buddy, if you turn that shit off in the back ground and think about what your saying you might get it right!.........if the deck height is too tight you have to add gasket to make it bigger, not machine the block as you suggest...................!!!!!

  • @bornpompey2 FIRST OF ALL THIS IS MY CHANNEL, MY MUSIC AND MY EXCELLENT WISDOM, YOU PEASANT PISS ANT COMMONER. MY ENGINES ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD AND COMMAND 10,000$ JUST TO GET ME TO LOOK AT BUILDING ONE. YOU NEED TO STOP DISRESPECTING THE MAN AND GET ME A SLURPEE, BOY.

  • Awesome explanation both about the importance of the squish band and how to adjust it. Thank you!

  • This is for all you people that dont understand simple physics.= ALL OF THE CYLINDERS, PISTONS, CRANKSHAFTS ARE DIFFERENT MANUFACTURES WITH DIFFERENT TOLERANCES AND CLEARANCES. SOME CYLINDERS NEED TO RAISED OR LOWERED TO MAKE THE SQUISH BAND ACCEPTABLE. THAT IS WHY THERE ARE A THING CALLED "GASKETS". (I REALLY WISH I COULD WRITE THIS MESSAGE IN CRAYON, SO SOME OF YOU SPECIAL PEOPLE COULD FINALLY UNDERSTAND).....

  • informative video, thanks! music makes it difficult to hear you, though :/

  • my squish is 0.7mm if its 0.6 the piston will hit the cyliner head when it gets hot...

  • so the SQUISH must be under 1mm 0.o do i get that right

and does that calculation work for all 2 stroke motoers?

  • why air cooled? if you want some easy extra hp's make it liquid cooled

  • NICE SETUP AND NICE AND CLEAN GOOD VID

  • all two strokes should have this head set-up, dentination around the edges is a common fault

  • My old 183cc runner engine was close to 30bhp?

Take it you're from the states? You should get a 125cc gilera runner/aprilia sr engine mate. so much potential there.

  • @wolffy2008 There are no Gileras in the states. Gileras and moped are as popular as you soccer in the states Sorry you lost the world cup , i was hoping wayne rooney would kick ass and take name. He is a great striker, whatever that is.

  • @DIOSpeedDemon I fucking hate football/soccer??

  • @wolffy2008 Gilera's are great to tune just had a full rebuild on my 172, dyno soon

  • I bet this guys engine doesnt run as good as a stock engine when he was doen with it. SO many guys think they can can mod engins and when they are all done they run like shit but dont know it.

  • @kronfuss You bet wrong. My engines generate 17 horsepower you Bitch Ass Punk.

  • @DIOSpeedDemon only 17 horse power ? it is a 125cc right ?

here in holland some engines produce 25 + horsepower (rearwheel) and those are 80cc(ported) , i mean my 70cc can produce 18 horsepower out of the box...( it can produce 18 HP , it doesnt .. but the potential is there)

  • @DIOSpeedDemon 17 hp out of a 125 is pathetic

  • @DIOSpeedDemon

OMG i feel bad for you :( here in europe we generate up to 25BHP out of an 70cc engine. netherlands FTW

  • @avermedia3077 No my friend, I feel REALLY BAD for you......(here in the states my next car will be a 600 Horsepower Dodge Viper that will DoorSlam anything Europe of the world has to offer) . The viper is bone stock and can do the 1/4 mile in 7 seconds. What does FTW mean??? RH DSD

  • @DIOSpeedDemon

the only reason why you americans need such muscle cars is because your all so fat! and without that horsepower you wont even go faster than 25mph.

anyway, the efficiency of an american engine is 0 compared to a european mercedes. ftw= for the win

  • @avermedia3077 you're a complete dumbass. that's all i have to say on the subject. :D

  • @avermedia3077 WE ARE NOT FAT. only I am fat,. We build the baddest , fastest muscle cars because we can, Brute Force is the name of the game, A stock viper can obliterate any Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, or any other European car at a Fraction of the cost. The Bugatti is the ugliest car in the world and probably runs like a YUGO.

  • @DIOSpeedDemon a stock viper will beat euro in a straight line but not on corners, where it matters. see in europe we build cars to go round turns, where it matters. in america all you care about is whos got the biggest engine, not wheather the driver can drive it or not. anyone can pop a clutch and change gear when the needle reaches the red line, it takes skill and bravery to push a car to the limits. not just the engine and chassis

  • @avermedia3077 25bhp ASSUMED horse power? Or 25bhp on a calibrated dyno? And is that a motor that's made to do a couple quarter mile passes, or a daily driver?

  • @Towlieee on a calibrated dyno ofcourse, made to race ;) ofcourse you cant drive it daily, a machine with 25bhp weighing less than 80kg is almost in controleable

  • @avermedia3077 I can generate 50 horsepower from a 50cc engine AND IN AMERICA THERE IS NOT ONE SCOOTER TUNING DUMBASS LAW LIKE IN EUROPE. NO PRETEND COPS ON EVERY CORNER WITH A LITTLE BIKE STAND THAT MEASURE YOUR REAR WHEEL SPEED. AN AMERICAN COP WOULD BE LAUGHED OUT OF COURT AND OFF THE FORCE , IF HE EVER TRIED DOING SOMETHING THAT RIDICULOUS. RH DSD

  • @kronfuss I have the fastest moped in my entire state. I took supreme olympic moped speed trials held in july of 2009. SO SUCK IT.

  • what brand is cylinder ? and for what scooter is it ? and how many inches is the plunger "piston" ??

  • did i hear right, after he totally fucks up the measurements he decides on closing the gap so what does he suggest to do??? the exact fucking opposite and tell us to raise the cylinder which would increase the gap,,the guys a dickhead....

  • what the fucks he on about, good video but measurements confuse the shit out of me,,you say you need .6 to .8 clearance, but factory clearance is .13 to .18 well unless i failed maths but isnt .13 smaller than .6 so you would have to open it up not close it,,no wonder theres confusion when some guys dont get there facts right...

  • In the snowmobile industry they used cylinder base plated to raise the port timing onstead of actually porting the cylinder, save time and make a lot more money, if you raise the exhaust port 2 mm there is no need to change the squish band I have seen 7mm out of the top of the exhaust port on cr500 cylinder with 60 thou of the head.

  • That vernier is in .001" increments (thousandths of an inch) not mm. It's actually reading 0.120" which is about 5mm, not 0.6mm.

Nice try but not even close.

  • How does changing the thickness of the base gasket effect the port timing though ? Surely it`s bound to change it incrementally even ! Love the Judas Priest "Point Of Entry" in the background by the way !

  • @auto4union because you "raise" or " lower" your cillinder , so your ports move up of down that has influence on your timing

  • When I was a kid I used to shave the deck down by about 3mm on my mopeds. Just by a flat file. I never knew why worked but it did gave me more power and higher revs.

  • j.2 r? wouuuu woouuu ! j.2r

  • AV-10?

  • Don't feel bad, it's near impossible to do anything technical properly with Judas Priest playing in the background. Especially a " 360 degree..... traverse or.....whatever".

  • I TOTALLY agree... RH DSD

  • Between the zero and the "ten" on your vernier is really between 0 and .1 You,ve been measuring between 0.06 and 0.08 and not .6 and .8. You measured your Squish as .2 so obviously .6 to .8 is going to be higher up the scale and not less. You're obviously not an engineer then!

  • I got the same book, with the squish clearanc-images. "2-Stroke performancetuning" by Graham Bell. great book with all you need to know about 2stroke tuning. Many usually files the ports in the cylinder to get more horses but by filing the edge off the piston you can adjust the opening timing on the TRANSFER and BOOST ports aswell as the EXHAUST.and should you go too far just replace the piston wich is alot cheaper than the cylinder. an easy cheap way to experiment with higher port-durations :D

  • good info, great video, it helped me a lot

  • what kind of motor is that

  • Could you please suppress the music?

  • Could you please supress the music?

  • @hvautos JUDAS PRIEST CAN ONLY BE PLAYED LOUD!!!! DONT YOU NO NUTHING???? PRIEST RULES!!!!

  • @DIOSpeedDemon I totally agree, Judas priest is the god of metal and you´re doing metal works, damn punk ass kids, I´m a Metalhead too and nice engine dude, I suggest a power "reed" valve .

  • you should move the deck hight up as much as posible to increase the cc's

  • moving the deck height up(by putting spacer plates under between 2 base gaskets, does not increase cc's. the displacement is determined by 2 factors: bore and stroke. if you increased the deck height it alters the port timing and increases combustion chamber volume, therefore reducing compression, reducing performance.

  • You are correct on all counts, In the Dio world, all our cylinders are from foreign makers as our the pistons and crankshafts. The cylinder head design can be from a different manufacturer also. With all these unknown quantifiable part specs, I am trying to set the quish band as close as .06-.08mm. THis is not about increasing volume in any way. All the odd parts make the puzzle more interesting to get right. My next bike will be a Hayabusa 1300, . Excellent analysis though, Supa. RH

  • Where are you getting the .06-.08 spec?

  • agreed! it would trick the engine into thinking the dome size has incresed, which as you stated would drop off the compression ratio.....which sucks! But some compression can be sacraficed if the port-timming is corrected by a spacer.
