  • heaven, I´m in heaven

    Thumbs up for John Coffey!

  • Simply STUNNING!!!!

  • . . . total class.

  • Wondwe how these two would do on Dancing With The Stars ?

  • @hck9k That's the dumbest thing anyone could've said...

  • Me encanta!!!

  • The one and only. Charm personified. Transcends life into joy, then and now.

  • I see it every year and expect to live much more to go watching this superb scene.

  • Hey, sublime and beautiful.. such elegance, dancingwithotters is right, Fred and Ginger achieved immortality in this clip.. very strenuous dancing for her especially, it must've been so intense filming these dance numbers under studio lights.

Fred Astaire incidentally was Cole Porter's favourite singer, for though he didn't have a big voice he sang all the notes as written and had perfect diction so you can hear every syllable perfectly even now almost 80 years on.. now that's greatness! Px :)

  • one person is not in heaven.

  • Comment removed

  • One person obviously doesn't know class when they see it.

  • @puckhiggins One person was blinded by the awesomeness of this video so they couldn't find the right button. ;-)

  • I love this scene, it's so beautiful...

  • La primera vez que escuche esta cancion fue en la pelicula The Green Mile, excelente cancion y excelente pelicula...

  • I love watching this, and all their other dances. It brings tears to my eyes. Their movements are so eloquent and their costumes are just divine! And the music is ever so quaint. It's just romantic, lovely and passionate...picturesque! You really can't get any better than this.

  • That magnificent dress that Ginger Rogers is wearing here deserved an Oscar. I think it may be the most beautiful dress I ever saw. And it is ideal for this dance. Irving Berlin's music is sheer bliss.

  • @chevychase I love this dress so much! I want it for my wedding dress if someday I got marry...

  • @chevychase i definitely agree. did you know that ginger rogers designed it herself? also, fred astaire hated it because the little feathery things kept getting stuck to his tuxedo. :)

  • I love the green mile

play this song at my funeral...

  • Just magic. Fred and Ginger didn't invent social dancing, of course, but they made dancing with a partner so attractive, that literally millions of couples filled the 1930s dance palaces, all over the country. And...Since the depression made most people poor... they literally created their own entertainment. Amazing times.

  • And let's not forget the amount of hard work and effort that goes into making movies like this. In Ginger's autobiography, she explains how her feet sometimes started bleeding from rehearsals and doing take after take. Musicals these days don't have extraordinary dance sequences that require alot of work. Anyone can line dance or do Hip-Hop. But it takes training to learn Tap Dance, and other challenging dances like Ballroom and Acrobatic Dance

  • And this is an ACTUAL musical, not like that High School Musical crap and everything else that's out these days. This movie has style, grace, elegance, a storyline, wonderful actors, and beautiful music.

  • the most romantic song ever...whoever pressed 'dislike' has a heart of stone!!

  • elegance, and beautifully choreographed!

  • 1935 > 2010

  • @jcerv :) I just learned to and we recently had our ballroom dancing social and I had to teach half the boys there how to actually dance the steps. :)

  • Was Ginger rogers a Ginge?? Only kidding. This is a beautiful song and i love the era and how happy movies were.

  • we all have our own green mile

  • @magarushaoo Good one! I can't hear this song without thinking of John Coffey. One of the best movies ever!

  • LOVE THIS. : )

  • These were droll little flicks with forgettable plots but Oh- the music and Oh the dancing. When I watch them dnce and listen to those wonderful tunes, the sun comes out and I can't help smiling. And, shedding a tear that it will never come again. That such sophistication, charm, talent and beauty is lost forever, except in these woonderful old flicks.

Thanks so much for posting this. If we're still here as a species, people will watch this 100 years from now with the same love.

  • Awesome :)

  • awesome

  • ginger rogers loved that dress, but Fred hated it b/c the feathers flew all over the place. But she insisted on wearing it. So he called her "feathers" after that. ( :

  • Really? 1 Dislike?

  • dancing ass to crotch is the new dancing cheek to cheek :(

  • is it the Film, that john coffey see cry in green mile ???

  • @burakusadana It sure is.

  • Why does it have to end? :( I feel empty..

  • it's glorious, what's your problem ?

    just divine...

  • This song makes me happy :)

I first heard it in Woody Allen's "The Purple Rose of Cairo".

  • I used to love watching this movie at my grandpa's house when I was a kid, and I just got chills watching it again. What a beautiful time in film. True entertainment!

  • Poetry in motion

  • true talent

  • @DrRocksotheClown you're so right there :)

  • hahaha Ginger looks SO uncomfortable when he's singing at her

  • @654zns it's amazing. whenever i think of Fred Astaire I think of this song. :) Love it. :)

  • @LadODell Every ballroom dancing practice that I have (i'm doing ballroom dancing for the school social) I always imagine myself floating with a boy like they did. They had some spark on the dance floor. See, nowadays the dance floor is a horrible cheap flat bit of board that people bounce up and down on, but then it was a beautifully polished marble or stone floor. I wish that we still had that era. :(

  • old music and video's always remind me of Bioshock :D

  • My Name is John Coffey, like the drink, just not spelt the same!

  • ginger rogers is my girl! she roxxxx.

  • Reminds me of the movie "The Green Mile"

  • @cohanfly How does it remind you of "The Green Mile" lol?

  • @Gilg4m3sh because thats the film that John Coffey is watching right before they execute him ???

  • @Zeet5 Oh snap, it is o.O!!! Haha, I haven't seen green mile in quite some time, so it seemed like a bit of an odd connection :p. Thanks.

  • im a teenager and i love this,

  • @NeyNey222 same!!! :)

  • I am feeling a little nostalgia. Take me to the '30s!! :)

  • @MissColorMeClassic To the Depression Era?

  • @Bootstataboots Yes, To the Depression Era. Its my favorite era.

  • I don't know why but everytime I see this I cry

  • wow...

  • Back when dancing was something couples did that was special. Watching Fred and Ginger they don't dance they seem to float on the floor. This is a special kind of magic we seem to have lost. Too bad the young people of today do not know this knid of magic. They really don't know what they are missing.

  • I love the moment when Ginger turns a look on her face like "what is happening?" at 1:18 just when Astaire looks at her, and she looks down ashamed

  • Such a joy to watch! Grace and power; elegance and discipline. Love her gown!

When I was a teenage girl, I used to think that Fred Astaire was a "fuddy-duddy", but now that I'm a little older and wiser, I've realized that men who can dance like THIS, also have stamina in other areas....!

Thanks for posting! Top Hat is an entertaining movie, by the way.

  • Absolutely magical!

  • nice time

  • romantic!!!!!!!!!

  • 0 people dislikes this... why? because THIS is the real music/dance. OMG, so nostalgic!

  • the dancing, the song, the beauty- TIMELESS

  • I was heartbroken watching this knowing that these two individuals have long since passed away. But then, are they really dead? Even now, decades later, we're still marvelling at the grace and poise of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

They dance themselves towards immortality it seems.

  • For me,it doesn't get any better than Fred & Ginger.I have most of their movies on dvd.

  • Why, they's angels. Angels, just like up in heaven.

  • mesmerizing

  • I have but one question: Why have people stopped making movies like this?

  • @Balletdancer980 industry of sex from ''70 is own cinema

  • @vitweb i guess..............................

  • In my opinion, this is one of the finest artistic creations ever.

  • It is one of my favorite movie scenes !

  • @lilticklez, i've never been clubbing so i wouldn't know lol. plus i'm an old fashioned person and i'm 14. lols! :)

  • Wow!!

This lady is so beautiful. 75 years ago!!

  • Gone are the days of women and men having class or even knowing what it is. pure Grace and elegance, and what romance should be like today *sighs* I still swoon when I watch this man dance with Ginger...

  • Incomparable and unsurpassed in terms of sheer class and elegance. A true privelege to see such a great confluence of art and craft.

  • Classy......

  • Perfection

  • :-)

  • God Bless YouTube!

  • John Coffee <3

  • I love beautiful dancing like this, not this disgusting modern stuff that has girls in slutty little dresses that reveal too much. This is ACTUAL dancing. I hate that it isn't as popular as it was in 1930's and that era though.

  • @zoe1796 this dancing is nice, but still not as fun as club dancing ;)

  • @zoe1796 this is just amazing and just so welll put together..u canb tell teh artists acually CARED about teh music..an dthis is coming from a guy with long hair who likes rock and heavy metal music...

  • @zoe1796 This is by far the greatest love song I have ever heard.

  • @zoe1796 thats because these people actually had TALENT.

  • @zoe1796 You said it! I'm making sure my son knows how to dance like this. He's only 14 but I know one day he'll be so glad he learned. There is actual beauty and art in this!

  • @zoe1796 don't forget the guys who only know how to stand there and think it appropriate to hold a girl's ass in their hands or walk in a circle and call it "slow dancing." we need a dancing revival! :)

  • @zoe1796 Agreed. This is so romantic and smooth.

  • I LOVE THESE MOVIES!!! Fred Astaire will always be a legend!!!

  • Ginger, about Fred- 'I did everything he did, but backwards and in high heels.'

that was it wasn't it?- I might be a word or two off.

  • She is so beautiful

  • I think this will be played at my funeral or get off my cloud, by the stones

  • a love these old black and whites

  • completely espectacular!!!! don't have any other words to express it....

  • beautiful!! divine!!

  • @daev2007 one word...flawless...
