@lisbonstudio It's Jerry Weems on guitar!!! Have a look at the video" bonaroo doobie brothers live 1976" to see another clip of him. I have spelt his name right this time.

@TheArizonaMark You mean Mr. Pearlman. That's an ARP 2600 (as in Alan R. Pearlman). @mysmallballs I am a drummer as well since 1977, and you are right. Now way stoned. NO fricking way possible. I tried it while playing the song "footloose" once at a New Years eve party What a train wreck!
Why isn't there any music like this around these days--short answer is musical acts aren't musicians now. The chance of someone mastering keyboards, percussion and the alto saxophone plus composition and showmanship and putting it into a live piece like this is almost inconceivable today.

To all the nostalgia trippers talking about people don't make good music anymore, I say there is great music in every generation, you just have to look harder than TV and the radio.
@BuyBenco I'll betchyu he took a standard keyboard, put a couple screws into each side and attached a strap. I haven't analyzed his performance enough to see if an electric cord was attached or if it was really battery powered, but I would think either was available back in '73??
@sbdude101 Oh yeah it is standard keyboard, but it has a synth sound and without all the oscillator soundboxes and extra shit and battery powered in 73?!
I watched ALIVE last night in São Paulo, Brazil. AWESOME! Edgar still rocks. He looks like a kid. And he's got a new bass player, a black guy, he is fantastic.

Notice how The Midnight Special gave Edgar Winters 9 minutes to play the song AND Improvise.
A music show today would give him 3 minutes to play the song, so that they could jam in as many performers as possible for more advertising dollars.

@littledavearrival Jerry Weems he was a great session player but died early on. He had style as you can plainly see.

Absolutely stunning. One of the most underrated people of his time, Edgar Winter is one of a kind and still is. I can't say enough. Edgar, thanks.

I used to listed to this as a child. My mom would put on this record to help me go to sleep.

Great performance!
To all the nostalgia trippers talking about people don't make good music anymore, I say there is great music in every generation, you just have to look harder than TV and the radio.

WHERE'D HE GET A FUCKIN SYNTH KEYTAR IN '73??!!
BuyBenco 8 months ago
@BuyBenco I'll betchyu he took a standard keyboard, put a couple screws into each side and attached a strap. I haven't analyzed his performance enough to see if an electric cord was attached or if it was really battery powered, but I would think either was available back in '73??
sbdude101 8 months ago
@sbdude101 Oh yeah it is standard keyboard, but it has a synth sound and without all the oscillator soundboxes and extra shit and battery powered in 73?!
BuyBenco 8 months ago
@BuyBenco
Here is the answer:
Edgar Winter is using a remote controlled Keyboard that is connected to a big, ARP2600 Synthesizer.
You can see him play with the knobs of that ARP @ 6:00
The ARP is where the Oscillators and Filters are stored.
I hope that helps

I watched ALIVE last night in São Paulo, Brazil. AWESOME! Edgar still rocks. He looks like a kid. And he's got a new bass player, a black guy, he is fantastic.
