  • Brilliant! Who skates nowadays with such speed and smoothness?

  • WOW robbed robbed robbed!!!

  • she is so cute:P

  • Scott Hamilton called her a " little firecracker ".

  • I just looked at her on a YT tape, that is not her.The gal had brown hair and was really short. She was born in the Ukraine but skated for Russia.

  • Perhaps you are thinking of Elena Liashenko of Ukraine?

  • What was her last name? Are there any skating clips of her You Tube? You are thinking of another Elena coz the Elena that I am thinking of did skate at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics.

  • Elena Sokolova? Nicknamed Cupcake by Dick button was young and cute in Nagano 1998, wasn't in the Russian team again until 2003 worlds where she won the silver medal. Also won silver at Europeans that year, had a disaster in Turin 2006 Olympics, but bounced back with a 4th place at worlds that year. Also wet her spankys inbetween and has since retired. Never managed to find a deep edge. C'est la vie.

  • That is probably her as she was real cute and short.I do have it on tape so I need to go back and look at my tapes from Turin,if I can find them?Scott Hamilton just loved her.

  • Or did she skate at the Turin games?

  • Unfortunately no...She finished her career after 2000worlds.Now she's skating in professional skating and also shes a coach and choreographer.

  • Whatever happened to the cute little Russian gal Elena that skated in the Salt Lake City games and I think was from the Ukraine.Scott Hamilton loved her jumps.

  • SP Worlds 1999 - my marks

    Butyrskaya - 5.7, 5.9

    Rechnio - 5.8 5.8

    Gusmeroli - 5.7 5.7

    Kwan - 5.5 5.8

    Soldatova - 5.6 5.6

    Malinina - 5.6 5.5

  • I agree with all of those except 5.5 for required elements for Kwan is way too high. Her fall on the double axel is a .4 deduction and there is no way her base mark for that program with a weak and wobbly triple lutz combo and a triple toe as her optional jump should have been a 5.9. Other than that about right.

  • Oh the controversial 99 Worlds... I agree with most of your placements

    1. Butyrskaya - 5.7, 5.9

    2. Rechnio - 5.7 , 5.7

    3. Gusmeroli - 5.6 - 5.7

    4. Liashenko - 5.5 - 5.5

    5. Malinina - 5.4 - 5.6

    6. Kwan - 5.2 - 5.8

    7. Soldatova - 5.5 - 5.3

    8. Poth - 5.4 - 5.4

  • @pooguy77 Rechnio - touched down with the free foot on the Lutz, bad Layback spin, didn't hold a single Spiral position for more than a second, not a good combination spin, and not a good ending to the program. It really wasn't that good, although NONE of SPs from the Ladies at 99 Worlds were great:

    1. Butyrskaya - 5.6/5.7

    2. Gusmeroli - 5.5/5.7

    3. Rechnio - 5.5/5.5

    4. Soldatova - 5.4/5.6

    5. Kwan - 5.2/5.8

    6. Liashenko - 5.4/5.4

    7. Malinina - 5.3/5.5

  • @Zuranthium

I agree, the Laidback could have been better, and average combo spin. But her D.axle was one of the best of the competition, and the incredible speed, control, and ice coverage made up for some of her weaker elements.

    It was a close one!

  • This still hurts my heart! :( SO good. Anna Rechnio was so much better than her results showed. What a fine skater...she was ALethic and grecful....and even better balance of the two than Ito. No one has ever combined the two quite like Anna.

  • completely ROBBED! Ridiculous...deserved to be 2nd in the short and should have also been higher in the long- 4th at least- 3rd overall!

Rechnio was robbed the year before too...had the judges just kept her ahead of Huberts crappy free (like she deserved) she'd have got the bronze!

  • She was placed only 6th for that? What a performance with beautiful flow and wonderful skating.

  • Seriously, how did the judges figure that SOLDATOVA, Kwan with a fall and Malinina with a stepout were better than THAT!? Stupid results

  • For the jumps, flow, speed and amazing EDGES (the best I've ever seen live) his should have won the short! ROBBED!

  • This was the 2nd best short program in the event after Butyrskaya. It was a disgrace she was placed 6th below Kwan with a fall, below sloppy Gusmeroli, and immature Soldatova, and Malinina with a turn out of her combo.

  • Great Quality, Power, jumps....Great skater!!! They should give her a medal in both 98 and 99 worlds but...

  • I just can't belive that she was only 7th in this Worlds

  • Great program Anka ! Well done !! ;-)

  • Great power! Even with the Raul di Blasio muzak...

  • Thanks!!!!!
