The Delorean does have a weak engine. Although used in Alpines and Venturis, you need to remember that those cars were made of fibreglass so those were lighter than the Delorean.
Frankly with the current Stage 3 mods from DMC, the engine just touches the mark to give the Delorean the performance it should've had. But all this modding, comes at a price of reliability of not done right.
I'd like to say this: The DeLorean, whether you like it or not, IS indeed a piece of junk! It's got the engine out of a French minivan, was completely unreliable, and handled like a pregnant yak! But I must say, is it definitely one of the best looking cars I've ever seen, and, even though it's pretty crappy mechanically, I still want one more than my next breath!

Most people do not believe me when i tell them i have only changed the plug wires and air cleaner on my DMC.I have never figured out why it has a bad rep, but you must own one before making judgements. I think it is great daily driver. Well done John Delorean! Also we should thank him for the GTO and Firebird.

With emission standards in 1981, combined with money issues, and fuel economy concerns, ; DMC did the best they could with the engine. John Delorean picked the V6 engine because parts were easy to come by and it met the fuel economy standards at the time. What hurt the Delorean was the ridiculous price tag it carried when it was new. It cost twice amount of a Vette. I've driven Deloreans and they are wonderful to drive!

David Quantick (0:50) basically states it's difficult to open the gull wing doors when parked in between two cars. He's wrong. Gull wing doors are actually more practical than basic car doors as on the DeLorean the doors lift straight up and over and not outwards. All DeLorean admirers and drivers know this.
It definitely isn't the best Car in the world nor the fastest, but it's more about resembling the look of the Time Machine plus it's a cool looking Car and fun to drive.

The Deloreans doors require far less clearance than side-hinge doors, and this can be physically demonstrated. These doors, when opening, only require 11 inches (264 mm) clearance outside the line of the car, making opening and closing the doors in crowded parking lots relatively easy.
The guy who owns the replica (Dan Botkins) is the head mechanic at Delorean motor center in orange county. I remember when he was building this car. I had taken mine up to the shop to have some stuff done and there was his bttf D. Very nice he built from the ground up.

In reality, the DeLorean was an appaling car, there is almost nothing nice to say about it. Not only was the company owned by a drug trafficker, but it was badly built by a workforce who enjoyed killing each other and the unpainted stainless steel body was a magnet for filth and dust.

Gull wings actually require only 14 or so inches, unless your super skinny, a regular door opened 14 inches will be hard to fit through.

That stupid asshole that says the doors are great except when parked between two other cars is an idiot. The Deloreans doors require far less clearance than side-hinge doors, and this can be physically demonstrated. These doors, when opening, only require 11 inches (264 mm) clearance outside the line of the car, making opening and closing the doors in crowded parking lots relatively easy.

The guy who owns the replica (Dan Botkins) is the head mechanic at Delorean motor center in orange county. I remember when he was building this car. I had taken mine up to the shop to have some stuff done and there was his bttf D. Very nice he built from the ground up.
