well said. my mother excuses her racist father as a product of the time and the place where he grew up. he was from alabama. he didn't hate all blacks. he didn't suggest they be lynched (so far as i know). he instead thought they should be seperate and somehow were less than he.

i now find myself excusing my mother as a product of her times. an old thinker whose perspective is all too slowing being phased out of the culture at large.

i only hope my siblings escape this backwardness.
