My mother's side of the family are Christian (Irish) and thid issue is always the target of discussion.
You see, this is where the lines of the Trilogy is obscure: God, Son, Holy Ghost. Jesus is Godlike, but not God entirely. Jesus is manlike but not entirely. Even though Jesus is referred to as Son of God, He is also referred to as "Son of Man" Jesus himself cannot reveal what Heaven looks like to the Apostles. Only Jesus is perfect, but he has the freewill and body of man. Jesus in every otherway is like man to be the sacrafice.
In short, there are many areas where Jesus is known and referenced to as God. Do a google on "Is Jesus God in flesh". Also, do a google on Jewish Influence on the Qur'an. Mohammad (PBUH) received oral learning from Jews that were ousted from power, not Christians, around the 6th century.

Paul Maier, in his book "First Christians", tells us that thirteen years elapsed between the time Paul "received his calling" and the time that he began preaching. During that thirteen years, Paul's creative mind put in a lot of overtime; when he finally returned to Damascus, he came back armed with the knowledge that the Gentiles would demand a tangible god within their new religion, and he was prepared to give this to them.
Paul knew that people with such deep-reaching pagan beliefs were not going to accept the idea that grace and salvation could come from a person who was only considered to be a most upright and righteous human being. In Islam, it's also accepted that Jesus is perfect and without sin. Of course, this doesn't necessarily make him God. God is all-powerful and has the ability to protect one from sin if He wishes. The argument of Islam is that the true teachings of Jesus have been abrogated over time, most notably by Saul/Paul of Tarsus who was the key innovator of the original teachings of Jesus.

He is also spoken of as "The Word of God", as "The Spirit of God", as a "Sign of God", and numerous other honorable epithets spread over fifteen different chapters. The Holy Qur'an honors this messenger of God, and the Muslims have not fallen short over the past fourteen hundred years in doing the same. There is not a single disparaging remark in the entire Qur'an to which even the most jaundiced among the Christians can take exception.
Though Jesus is mentioned by name in about 25 places in the Qur'an, he is also addressed with respect as: Ibn Maryam ("The son of Mary") and as the Maseeh (in Heb./Arab., the Messiah), translated as "Christ". Yet, to attempt to look for what is believed to be "Truth" in the Bible is an attempt to attribute truth to the account of the life of Jesus and his alleged crucifixion, which is according to someone else.

It is very clear from Matthew 26:39 that Jesus had no intention of dying. In this verse it is shown that Jesus was praying strongly (Matthew mentions Jesus repeating this prayer three times) to have this death removed from him. Had Jesus Christ been sent to be crucified, he would not have hesitated to be killed at all.

i was born in iran and grow up there. i have been in 1979 revolution and seen 1980-1981 mullahs attacks to people and what iranian called "chomagh dAr" which is same as "lebAs shakhsi"
i have been a political prisoner and seen torturers such as ahmadi nejad. i have seen peolple that were tortured by him and even later on he shoot that last bullet in their head after execution. what this regime is about is nothing but disaster for human being and should be wiped out from iran and world.

Do you know the Shah is dead? He has a son but I highly doubt the Shahzadeh (Shah's son) can do anything on his own, at least w/o the direct support of the US vis a vis the CIA. In short, there are many areas where Jesus is known and referenced to as God. Do a google on "Is Jesus God in flesh". Also, do a google on Jewish Influence on the Qur'an. Mohammad (PBUH) received oral learning from Jews that were ousted from power, not Christians, around the 6th century.

In the end, however, Paul's brand of Christianity won out because, through his charismatic personality, not to mention the fact that he and his companions out-matched the true disciples of Jesus in important manners such as social rank, wealth and education, he gained such a large following among the Gentiles. Judeo-Christianity, that of the disciples of Jesus, didn't stand a chance.

QudsForce - perfect simply put is without sin. Only God and Jesus where without sin. There is a story of Job who was protected, like Noah but they too where with sin. There is so much you are telling me which is contrary to what is taught in the Bible, like Saul/Paul and his appeal to Jews. He too is a Jew by the way. And he always went to the Jews first, and then the gentiles.

Not only that, but Paul had little contact with the true disciples of Jesus who also might have set him straight; they were not in agreement with Paul's innovative teachings, and let him know this as much as possible.

Jesus as perfect without sin is agreed upon. God's perfection, however, extended well beyond that of Jesus in that God granted Jesus the power of abstaining from sin. God is always without sin as God is Eternal. Jesus was only without sin b/c it was God's Will.

Ok - well, that's where we can disagree. I understand that we all have free will. God cannot force man to love or obey Him. This love reasaonably would also extend to Jesus, unless Jesus was God. If Jesus did not have this freewill then what point would the temptation on Guesemini be? Also, what would that say about Jesus's love and commitment to man kind, if He had no free will?

Paul was wildly successful in his subsequent missionary efforts, what with the accommodations he ended up making for the Gentiles. Although the religion of Christianity takes its name from Jesus Christ, Paul of Tarsus must be considered as its true founder, as he is the one who conceived all of its doctrines, and set up its churches throughout the world of his time.

Paul Maier, in his book "First Christians", tells us that thirteen years elapsed between the time Paul "received his calling" and the time that he began preaching. During that thirteen years, Paul's creative mind put in a lot of overtime; when he finally returned to Damascus, he came back armed with the knowledge that the Gentiles would demand a tangible god within their new religion, and he was prepared to give this to them.

Paul knew that people with such deep-reaching pagan beliefs were not going to accept the idea that grace and salvation could come from a person who was only considered to be a most upright and righteous human being. If Paul wanted quick results in his ministry, he knew that he would have to "modulate" things a bit, taking into account the culture of the Gentiles.

The Romans and the Greeks, who made up the Gentile population of Paul's world, were pagans who worshipped a plethora of gods and goddesses. Temples and statues of their deities abounded in the land, and Roman law had it that all people, with the exception of the Jews, must pay homage to the gods.

QudsFoce - this is good. If God is perfect, and so is Jesus, then isn't Jesus God? Can man ever be perfect? I think even the Qur'an says man in the Garden of Eden was cast out because or our sin. Even Moses and Abraham, aknowledged Prophets in th Qur'an were with sin. They were simply men, not God incarnate. David too was with sin.

Simply b/c a prophet is w/o sin doesn't imply he is God. When I say that Jesus is perfect, I mean he is perfect in all aspects of being a prophet appointed by God. God may have acted through Jesus for he was a sign of God on earth and an agent of God's Divine Will. This, however, doesn't make Jesus God.

Yes they were. Of course Jesus was sent to fulfill the law of the Jews, i.e. correct the Rabbis. Saul followed the Jewish ways until he innovated new ideas and steered away from the Jewish teachings. This is when he became Paul (of Tarsus).

Well, technically speaking, Judaism is a race. Therefore, Jesus and Saul were Jews in that sense of the term. Of course, Jesus was more than a Jew as he came to fulfill the law. Saul/Paul, while maintaining his Jewish heritage, came up with what is now known as the basic Pauline Christian Doctrines.

After converting, Paul went off into the deserts in order to think about just how he was going to go about carrying out what he believed to be a command from Jesus to go out and preach. Exactly WHAT to do was quite a dilemma for him, however; since the Jews had rejected Jesus and his message, Paul didn't think he stood much of chance of getting through to them, either. He made up his mind that it would be best to simply dismiss them off and target the Gentiles (non-Jews) instead.

And by the way, there is a little thing called the Trilogy (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) It is difficult at times to tell where they converge or diverge. Catholics, Lutherans and other Protestants have difficulty here. But we all accept that Jesus is perfect.

In Islam, it's also accepted that Jesus is perfect and without sin. Of course, this doesn't necessarily make him God. God is all-powerful and has the ability to protect one from sin if He wishes. The argument of Islam is that the true teachings of Jesus have been abrogated over time, most notably by Saul/Paul of Tarsus who was the key innovator of the original teachings of Jesus.

This is mighty fine... I understand that it is very difficult to beleive the Jesus is God in human form. Sual had the same problem before he converted to Paul. But tell me this, if Jesus is merely a man, where is His sin? Only Jesus is Perfect and was given to us in Human form, and you cannot use the Qur'an to prove it because the Qur'an refers to books we do not accept.

The words "heard in that he feared" (Hebrews 5:7) mean that God granted him what he requested. So the above verse shows when Jesus asked of God to "let this cup pass from" (Matthew 26:39) him, God responded to his prayer and saved him from death or crucifixion.

After Jesus made the prayer (Matt. 26:39) he was answered by God according to Heb. 5:7: "Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared." These words clearly show when Jesus was praying strongly to God, God granted him his request.

He is also spoken of as "The Word of God", as "The Spirit of God", as a "Sign of God", and numerous other honorable epithets spread over fifteen different chapters. The Holy Qur'an honors this messenger of God, and the Muslims have not fallen short over the past fourteen hundred years in doing the same. There is not a single disparaging remark in the entire Qur'an to which even the most jaundiced among the Christians can take exception.

Though Jesus is mentioned by name in about 25 places in the Qur'an, he is also addressed with respect as: Ibn Maryam ("The son of Mary") and as the Maseeh (in Heb./Arab., the Messiah), translated as "Christ". He is also known as Abdullah ("The servant of God"), and as Rasulullah (the messenger of God).

QudsForce -- As Christians, it is our duty to be vigilant in growing with Christ; that is why we must study the entire Bible and find Truth. Taken into context Jesus did voluntarily die on the Cross, yet what is written in Mat, as you pointed out, sounds like He didn't want to. This to me is poetically written telling us how hard the task was, for Jesus to die for all mans sins.

There is no doubt that Jesus knew of what was to befall him. There is also no doubt that he had no fear and that he would be ready to die for his cause. Yet, to attempt to look for what is believed to be "Truth" in the Bible is an attempt to attribute truth to the account of the life of Jesus and his alleged crucifixion, which is according to someone else.

It is very clear from Matthew 26:39 that Jesus had no intention of dying. In this verse it is shown that Jesus was praying strongly (Matthew mentions Jesus repeating this prayer three times) to have this death removed from him. Had Jesus Christ been sent to be crucified, he would not have hesitated to be killed at all.

I've noticed Muslims take the words written literally when sometimes words are meant metaphorically, Jesus new he was supposed to die. that did not change thew fact that it scared him, it's because he new how he would die that he was full of sorrow and fear. but never the less he new his destiny.

Well, you've noticed wrong. There is also metaphorical speech in the Qur'an. Jesus did know his fate and no, it didn't scare him. The point here, however, is that he had no intention of dying. You say he died for our sins. If so, what is the role of sin in this lifetime, and our purpose and how it's related to the day of judgement?

Quds : first how can you say for certain what Jesus was thinking?.... sins role in our life is to make us strong and bring us closer to God,the wages of sin are death the bible says this is life, and this is death, choose! how else would we know right from wrong if we had no trials? on judgment day those who were faithful to the word and did not give in to a life of sin and evil deeds. will reap the reward of knowing the creator.
