Alot of fish that glow such as glofish are just normal fish. The way breeders do this is that they extract glowing pigment from any other object and they inject it into the fish's (Danios)reproductive parts. So when a female gives birth the new fish are colorful and they glow under black LED lights.
glofish are illegal where i live as we don't look to kindly on altered DNA but i would LOVE Glofish =D maybe once they get more info they won't be illegal it just seems stupid to ban a harmless fish X3
lol guys, glor fish are genetically altered zebra danios, also known as Neon fish in australia for there two striped on each side making them look like neons, problem is, these lovely lil things are not available in australia :(. so im kinda sad!
lol@thingsthatkeepmeup No, actually they were modified in order to locate and ID toxic or harmful water. the first step was to get them to just be flouresent, the next is to give them a sort of "on-off switch"...learn to resaech a BIT more..and i agree,..world get-alongness!
You're an idiot and a prick who likes to flame people.
If you're religious, then you don't say God sucks at design, you say he has a reason we don't know.
If you're not religious, then you can recognise that messing with the natural order introduces a huge amount of unstability which could potentially destabilise the whole ecosystem, leading to a new extinction event.
Being a human being I don't think of that as a good thing... Do you?
wait do any of you know how the glow fish came. they were for medical research on organs in a small scale test on a see threw fish. and the they were accidently changed and sold so don't get into a argument about fish and who cares what people believe or don't believe. i'm 14 and i see something wrong in most beliefs. so hope we can all get along
yes they are very hyper, which makes them good because by them swimming around so much it makes the timid fish more confident that the water is safe for them to swim in the open
how do you say danio? is it day-nio or dan-io day or dan?? please reply someone

I wouldn't buy glofish.
If you're religious then you're messing with Gods design.
If you're not relifious then you're messing with the natural order.
GM is bad.

You're an idiot.
If you're religious, then your God sucks at design. How is being color blind a good thing? Yet it is easily corrected with a viral vector.
If you're not religious, then your not a dumb ass and can see that is not inherent good natural order, life just is, neither good nor bad.

Wow, beautiful fish! I just got a Zebra Danio yesturday. Are they supposed to be so hyper? xD
So which ones were the glofish? The pink and yellow ones? Stunning.

Yeah, Danios are VERY actie fish, don't sweat the little fish :-)

Glofish are not a kind of danio right??
tmaxxman33 3 years ago
No,they are danios that have an extra trait that causes them to glow under UV light.
streamkit 3 years ago
@streamkit well, not exactly. scientist put certain chemicals and mixed up DNA to do it.
oickler 1 year ago
@oickler they actually extracted like a protein pigment from jellyfish and coral and put it in the glofish, which makes it glow or whatever
