I would just put thin metal plate (1ft wide) around the trunk of trees. they slip on surface & does not bother your plat again. shooting my expensive bullets are not worth for squirrels. I guess you're rich guy.

Squirrel stew is delish, you should look up some recipes. There's some real good ones from the 19th century. The only drawback is you need four or five squirrels and an entire day to cook it. They obviously didn't have much other entertainment back then, what with no internet. Well worth the effort though. If you're unsure how to clean a squirrel, there's a ton of videos here on how to go about it :D

@Coyotehunter2011 I have the razor tip broadhead darts. The trajectory on them is very tricky and they tend to have such a huge drop that I wouldn't feel right about firing one at an animal of prey.

Modern cities and towns are over-run with them because there are usually ordinances that you can't kill them and they've got no predators. A sad state of affairs. I say more people should hunt them and learn to cook them the way our ancestors did. Tasty.

Throwing the dead animal into a patch of woods to be scavenged is probably the usual aftermath. Same goes with many of those super long range deer shots. No proof the animal was actually collected across a deep valley at 900 yards, etc.
Are blowguns generally fun just to mess around with? I'm stuck between a blowgun and a bullwhip and while a blowgun is cheaper, I cannot legally hunt with it. I'm probably going to go with whatever seems generally more fun.
@inverseactuality I dont have any experience with a bull whip so I can't make any comparisons to the blowgun. I would think that a blowgun would be more fun and safer than a bull whip.
You can't hunt with a bullwhip. Well, you could, but you'll be whipping an animal for a few hours straight. I was just looking for something to use as a hobby. I've decided neither, and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to buy to keep me from getting bored.
@inverseactuality Buy a compound bow. I just got one and it's amazing. You can just do archery with it, or if you get good at it, you can hunt with it too :D
@inverseactuality I went to my local Bass Pro, which happens to be good where I live, and they got me hooked up with a Diamond Razor Edge. It fits me well. Find a store where the staff know what they're doing. The bow should fit you, that's the important thing. Expect to drop about $200-300 just for the accessories! The arrows are not cheap, and the trigger releases aren't either. If you get one, there's a ton of videos on here on how to use it, proper shooting technique, etc.

@jakethesnake237 thanks man...these critters are so smart and so aware of their surroundings, the closest I can get is 10 yards. Check out my "Almost Headshots Himself" video and you'll see that any further away is not going to happen. Practice at 10 yards for a few weeks, and I'll bet you'll be deadly accurate from that range as well.
@AJGuzik360 Indeed they are smart and aware... note how that squirrel reacted to the sound of you huffing into the blowgun before the dart even arrived. But their weakness is that they are very curious creatures.
If you pique their curiosity (say by sitting still and making "chattering" noises at them) you can bring a squirrel in a lot closer than 10 yards (I dusted a lot of squirrels that way with a slingshot when I was a young lad.)
@bjggjb check out my "Almost Headshots Himself" video...shows some of the fastest animal reflexes I've witnessed. I have a squirrel call but to bring them in, aim the weapon, and fire will be quite a challenge. The squirrel in this video never saw me and if he had I never would have gotten to my 10 yard kill zone.
@bjggjb I've found that if I sit in the woods in complete camo with only my face (or part of my face) uncovered that they'll just about climb up your leg to see what you are LOL Every time it's happened tho I've been deer hunting... soon as deer season's over, more Squirrel Stew for me :D

A blowgun (from my opinion) is evil to be shootin' animals with... but i understand that its dead and skinned and not wasted... just dont like that is was killed with a pointy stick....

@IOWNEDyou369, and how exactly do you know he killed it for food? I see that excuse a lot, with little proof.
Throwing the dead animal into a patch of woods to be scavenged is probably the usual aftermath. Same goes with many of those super long range deer shots. No proof the animal was actually collected across a deep valley at 900 yards, etc.

Are blowguns generally fun just to mess around with? I'm stuck between a blowgun and a bullwhip and while a blowgun is cheaper, I cannot legally hunt with it. I'm probably going to go with whatever seems generally more fun.

@inverseactuality I dont have any experience with a bull whip so I can't make any comparisons to the blowgun. I would think that a blowgun would be more fun and safer than a bull whip.

You can't hunt with a bullwhip. Well, you could, but you'll be whipping an animal for a few hours straight. I was just looking for something to use as a hobby. I've decided neither, and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to buy to keep me from getting bored.

@inverseactuality Buy a compound bow. I just got one and it's amazing. You can just do archery with it, or if you get good at it, you can hunt with it too :D

@inverseactuality I went to my local Bass Pro, which happens to be good where I live, and they got me hooked up with a Diamond Razor Edge. It fits me well. Find a store where the staff know what they're doing. The bow should fit you, that's the important thing. Expect to drop about $200-300 just for the accessories! The arrows are not cheap, and the trigger releases aren't either. If you get one, there's a ton of videos on here on how to use it, proper shooting technique, etc.

@jakethesnake237 thanks man...these critters are so smart and so aware of their surroundings, the closest I can get is 10 yards. Check out my "Almost Headshots Himself" video and you'll see that any further away is not going to happen. Practice at 10 yards for a few weeks, and I'll bet you'll be deadly accurate from that range as well.

@AJGuzik360 Indeed they are smart and aware... note how that squirrel reacted to the sound of you huffing into the blowgun before the dart even arrived. But their weakness is that they are very curious creatures.
If you pique their curiosity (say by sitting still and making "chattering" noises at them) you can bring a squirrel in a lot closer than 10 yards (I dusted a lot of squirrels that way with a slingshot when I was a young lad.)

@bjggjb check out my "Almost Headshots Himself" video...shows some of the fastest animal reflexes I've witnessed. I have a squirrel call but to bring them in, aim the weapon, and fire will be quite a challenge. The squirrel in this video never saw me and if he had I never would have gotten to my 10 yard kill zone.

@bjggjb I've found that if I sit in the woods in complete camo with only my face (or part of my face) uncovered that they'll just about climb up your leg to see what you are LOL Every time it's happened tho I've been deer hunting... soon as deer season's over, more Squirrel Stew for me :D
