for anyone who thinks this is easy: it's NOT. I tried this a while ago (since it was a technique Bruce Lee frequently used) and it took me like 2-3 minutes at least to extinguish one flame.

It's one of the best exercises around to practice your punching speed.

ok guys, there is no majic here. the wind is caused by the back of the fingers before they make a fist. almost like backhanding wind towards it while at the same time clinching your fingers into a fist. takes a little practice but is almost invisible to the naked eye. watch his hand while in slow motion. youll see it.

demonstrate the one inch punch with a board break, for candle training we use a regular punch but the fist extended shouldnt be any closer that 6 inches, if you can put it out at a distance that demontrates the correct technique

 the "one-inch-punch" in its mastered form uses such high speed that on the finger/knuckleside of the fist the air is split around the fist, means the strike is so fast that the actual punch in front of the hand doesnt create any air turbulenz towards the candle. its the rest of the hand/arm thats blowing the candle out, a good way to imagen its to take a look on the front of ships water displacement. so with the one inch punch u blow the candle out by dragging air towards it.

Your fist clench is creating a squirt of air between your pointer and middle knuckle dude. Try this from FURTHER AWAY not closer to the candle if you wish to show a force generated that is worth anything. Your one inch punch only impresses at one inch if it can break objects without a huge area to generate momentum. THAT is what made the one inch punch awesome. So please stop trying to show it off on an object that gets easier to extinguish the closer you are to it.

WTF... More like 12 inch punch! Watch the video, he starts in appropriate position and then draws back the fist to hit. The hand leaves the camera frame. This is a trick method I have seen to do this in breaking demonstrations. Still cool that you can put out the flame, but this is not a demonstration of 1 inch power. I practice the candle punching to work proper short range mechanics for wing chun chain punching.

There is no technique to this. He pulled back and spread out his palm once he got close enough he made a fist and the air pulling along blows out the candle. 1 inch punch means you start 1 inch away and only go forward.
