Catch and release like he should have. But realistically, what kind of semi large fish can be pulled in with the line in your hands? Is it due to the fact that the water is so cold they have less energy? Hook any saltwater species that size I know of and it would be gone
Glad you released her. That laker might be 50 years old and would taste like crap anyways. Always good to release lakers over 15lb to spawn and get bigger
i am not a fisheman so please excuse my silly question but but i do wonder how a small fine line as shown could hold a fish that big without breaking and so with the clear ice he was on which seemed to be too thin to hold his weight? thanks for sharing by the way.
@goerizal1 fishing line is thin but it can hold a heck of alot and ice is actually clear but normally just has snow on it making it look less transparent
@goerizal1 - They didn't show you from the begining. Certain fish, especially trout tire easily. There is also this thing called drag on the reel. So, if your line is 10lb test line and you set your drag properly, the fish can pull until it hits 5lb to 6lb before the reel gives. That way, you'll never hit the breaking point. The fish pulls and stops and then you pull and repeat. Eventually, he is out of energy and you just bring him in.
Holding fish that big by the head will often result in it dying... they are not designed to have gravity applied that way, as they live in a weightless environment. Please handle them better in the future so they survive being released.
I love huntin and I love fishin, but i HATE to see a fish out of water. So when I go fishin, I dont put them in a bucket and let them die slowly.. I just end it for them real quick. Thats more humane, right?
kk 1 u nvr ever pull ur line like tht bcuz i have done tht with like a 15 pounder bass and i did tht ... my line snapped -__- and 2 u get a lil kink/loop in your line weather u real it right or not not to be a hater or anything im js
Judging by the time it spent out of the water, plus probably in cold winds when you had to take the fish outside to film, it can't have been doing too well once it got back into it's natural habitat. Yes, i am all for C&R, preserving our waters for the future, etc., but holding a 20lb+ fish from its gill slit/lid isn't in any way a good way to treat a fish if it's going to be released. The fishes entire body is resting on that bit of jaw-bone, intestines moving etc. Good catch, less good treatin
that was a great fish and for you to put that back deserves respect from me and im sure a hole lot of other people, seriously DAMN GOOD CATCH AND RELEASE. the way its ment to be. cant wait to see more like this from you. cheers
yeah if the fish dosnt move you got to give him a little shake and try to wake him up because hes in shock, if you just throw him in the water when hes in shock he dies
Nice one ,good to see you were willing to suffer to make sure it had recovered befor you released it well done.I am just a bit jealous well a lot actually
Much props to you my friend for the catch and release..... Takes a true fisherman to do such a thing. You respect life and I respect you... good job, great video.
@jshriverOH that ice isn't thin, you can walk on two inches (I recommend 3 or more) an I strongly recommend if you like open water fishing to try ice fishing, cause I do both an prefer ice any day...
wtf howmuch lifepoints does that thing heal and what fishing level do u need jezus i thought rocktails where the best fishy's O.O'' if u eat that thing in the wildy it heals like 99 jezus christ
the guy even said, it was the biggest lake trout he over caught..respect for even thinking of releasing it..that damn thing would be on MY wall if i caught it.
@Ulv123 its the gill plate, not the gills.....how else do you expect to land a fish like that....if you hold it any other way it is gonna fall to the floor which is a pretty big deal with fish over 30 pounds
@Ulv123 how the hell else was he gunna grab it?Iv never caught a lake trout in my life and by the looks of it neither has that guy. Im pretty sure they have teeth and id MOST CERTAINLY grab it by the gill so i dont get my fingers sawed off.
Is all that air really from the swim bladder or did the fish swallow it while it was being transported from another fisherman's ice house (if the latter, hope it was well paid)? I thought the swim bladder was apt to rupture rather than deflate through the mouth; though that varies by species I think. Bill Dance didn't do that but I know a lot of the pros did and do. Entertaining either way, nice job.
xTSCxGaming .. the fact you post like that PROVES you are not mature. Anyone hooking a fish like that should get real excited. Good job boys!! Nice release too.
