  • Hi Laurie I heard you over on 1hardblizzards channel and wow I am impressed your songs are great I love this one thank you from Phil .

  • hi laurie sounds great with a lot of emotion in your voice************

    btw: but what is bakelite?????

  • Hey Cinders ! A cracking little number on the new banjo. I love it`s sound, look forward to hearing more from that bakerlite,

    bought during the night,

    in a shaded car park,

makes you sing like a Lark.

  • Some people just have talent, and man you got it!!!

  • My previous was a 1980 Deering...found on ebay, came from Nashville..loved the "ring" tone--but boy o boy was it heavy---!!LOL... I hope you'll be inspired to "get to it" RE the peg! ...i can relate to undone things.....I buy strings--sometimes takes months to put them on!....hehe...I've an unfinished train song--your own fine train song reminded me...it is in limbo...must dust it off and get it here...thanks for listening...my fav sorta songs just birth themselves easy:-)Cheers!

    Laurie

  • Oh, I've had two of them. The first one was a Gibson one (the best, I think), and now a Deering one waiting to have substitute the fifth string peg (almost four years ago that plastic peg break in two) that I've already bought but not still putted on. The song is beautiful, really beautiful. Paul

  • Great song that bakelite banjo sounds beautiful.

  • The banjo sounds wonderful Laurie and it has inspired you to write this great song!

    Lovely singing and lyrics.

  • Waaah ! I love this one... you play and sing beautifully... Bravo !

  • Laurie... you've got soul in everything you do. This is so playful. Started my day off just right. Thanks.

  • Hey Laurie, I love your claw style playing and this is one very good song. Have a great 2012.

    -Ron

  • Banjo, is also an instrument and you play it well !

I bought a Ukelele, not at a parkinglot, but in a store selling old instruments.

Its good to have and fun to play.

    High Five !

    Peace Sister !

    Urban

  • Wow, GREAT!! I enjoyed this very much. Awesome song, singing!

  • This is awesome Laurie!! I am smiling so big at the wonderful lyrics and as usual you did a bluesy cool fun tune to it! Digging that Bakelite Banjo girl:)) Thanks for sharing this with us!! Hope your week is going great!! Bravo!!!

  • Damn this new YouTube format, I nearly missed seeing this video! Gosh, Laurie, I sure wish we lived closer. I'd love to sit down and make a song with you, even thought you outclass me by a football field! You got a new banjo, and I got a (crappy) new mandolin!

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 take care in the interim!

    Blessings, Richard!

  • You're a great storyteller, Laurie. Would love to get my hands on a banjo someday.

  • @RevelingInReverie Karen , one would be lovely, in your hands!....now that the subject has come up, maybe one will trip your way?....last one seen of these on ebay was only 89.00....just the spoken words Bakelite Banjo, demanded the song be written:-)LOL.

Cheers and thanks for listens, kind words..XOsLaurie

  • I don't know a banjo from a crow, but I know what I likes to listen to!

happy new year Laurie LeeCCC xo

  • @BigLoveZone thankyou m'dear....same back at cha! :-)

    XSO, L

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 Thanks so much Richard! ...sound should improve--have to shave/sand the bridge feet a lil and new strings....someday a fiber skin head.....it is really clean,...fun to play---so heavy it dents my knees!!lol .Take Care...hope to hear you soon enuf!!

    XsoL

  • @songblurred LOL!!!!!! I had a big laff at that!!.....Think you'd better get your own so you CAN use the word,...cause I cannot pronounce it! hehe...these are actually found at ebay in that price range.PLUS shipping, which could be high due to weight....it is rather loud..my music teacher said finding the one's with the backing, are better..(orig/complete) it is very pristeen, really a creampuff with hard edges....blessings, Don!

    XSO, Laurie

  • Love itmy friend!!

    Happy New Year to you!!

  • @23L Thankyou so much Larry!!! I hope your 2012 includes no mishaps , many blessings, and happy strumming:-) I've been so busy three weeks and tired,,,,,holidays meant work...and still do....that's ok---i have more "Therapy" now...lots of love, Larry!!!

hugs from sunny dry CA, and me

official pres of the Larry Robbins Fan Club out west!

    ;-)

  • That's some pretty bluesy sounding banjo playing right there!

  • @CurtisMateer Thankyou Peter! Hope your new year brings you uber blessings and lots of music, health, love...all the best! Thanks for swinging by...I been super busy....fell behind here!

    XOSLaurie

  • Hey Laurie, your banjo should be in a state of bliss about its new owner to have a song like this to welcome it! It sounds like you were meant for each other. Great song!

  • Lovely tune.....,

I love your voice and your bakelite banjo, Laurie.

  • @bagslifeim Thankyou Mary Ann!! next time I hope sound is better...this recording was raw, and "as found" ..I will work on the banjo a little bit:-)....Have a great week!!

    XSOLaurie

  • You got a bargain :-)

The lyric syncing must have taken forever! Its spot-on!

  • @jjmc60 Jules,,the banjo (truly not planned!!) I am helping a friend, and part entails plenty research on ebay, craigs list, so I was not even looking for banjos...the ad grabbed me!!! lyrics just the story, not any effort..lol funny I'd seen these a number of years back...the young guys took their proceeds and jumped into the drive thru lane (hungry)...i cracked open the case sitting in my car. only then realized I what I'd bought:-)whole thing made me laff..fun, cheap thrills!

    Cheers!

  • I want a banjo now.......nice song

  • @MrBlindboyblues Thankyou kindly!, you should find one!! they are mysterious mechanical instruments..(finding one playable is best, some sell because they NEED fixing --lotsa banjo orphinks out there....)....I blame the Beverly Hillbillies on the childhood Banjo imprinting Flatt and Scruggs fully embedded in my being at a young age, via the Tele....hehehe Cheers to you, Laurie

  • Cool Laurie! I sure welcome that new Bakelite friend in your Circle of Friends. With your Bakelite Banjo´s help you created this nice song! Nice playing and vocals and melody!

Happy New musical Year to you and your banjo!

    Much love from Viveca

  • @MrsCatification Thankyou so much, Viveca....a little reward for me.....:-) I've been behind is all things, in a busy time, past three weeks.......next comes paperwork, and then mowing....arg...i will need the banjo therapy, soon enuf!!! :-) Hoping your 2012 is super sweet and filled with notes and canvases !!!

    XOsLaurie

  • Hi Laurie. You managed to 'make it happen',on the 'maiden voyage'.

'Life is like a banjo, you never know what you're going to get'.(read it somewhere.)

I imagine with a 'skin' stretched over it, bakelite would be 'just fine'.

(notice that banjos are often cheaper than banjo capos ! )

  • @Gregparkerblues Thankyou Greg....it is a lil off tune...needs some grease, strings, and bridge adjustment, high strings are good exercise for lazy fingers...:-) yes CAPOS, and other finery accessories can really add up!! YAY for Ebay!! ..they make a faux rawhide head...softens the tone a little....this one is pretty snappy, and bright....I'll keep it awile...Cheers, Blessing, have a super week!

    XOsLaurie

  • bakalite or wood you certainly play well nice song. I buy instruments on a whym and some are woth a lot of money some are not but its those that i play including a stag playmate banjo that seems to leap into my hands as im passing it lol

Thats what i tell the wie anyway when she gets fed up with me plinky plonking.

    cheers clive

  • @clivedavies3 I will have to look that one up!! ...banjo madness capitvates me---such a rich history,....sort of like the goldrush....have you seen the all girl banjo band clips here? 20's 30s....amazing, truly amazing...!! yes, the family finally demands that you pry yourself away from the beloved banjo and come back to earth, .........lol

    XOsLaurie

  • Well it certainly sounds like a banjo LL...and it sounds like you're enjoying it, so good all round then :-)

  • @fendermac hehehe...it should tame down a little with better strings...these strings very well might be from the 70s...need to shave the bridge down, to lower strings...a very simple one...no truss rod...but clean!.....I'm getting back to the point where I could add to all 8 tracks....! someday I'll dig out the tech equipment....have a go. Cheers and have a great new week!!

    XOSLaurie

  • Most likely you have got a collectors item there. I know in the ukulele world plastic Maccaferri's can cost a bomb.

  • is it a harmony ! i've had several great little rig

  • @latoski thankyou Miguelito....:-) there is hope of improvement.(new strings, lower the bridge)..it's very very clean....not many hours of play....very loud! ,,,hehe...Hoping you are blessed and well....I'm hangin' tough....paperwork, mowing next on the chopping block...never a dull moment,,,,XSO, from the West!

    Laurie

  • @latoski ps, yes, Harmony ---tiny slender neck, but that's good for me...my banjo guru thought 70s..the older ones have diff headstock script..these turn up at ebay pretty often...

  • it was obviously meant to be in your hands... never knew they made banjos out of bakelite!! great upload Laurie

  • @wild0goose Thankyou Ann!! :-)just enjoyed your page..i fell WAY behind, during these past 3-4 weeks...!Cheers and happy new year to you!!

    XOLaurie

  • This song needed the banjo and the banjo needed the song, you handled both perfectly. Just to add, I have to say, I haven't seen a bakelite Banjo, shame on me!

  • @sserddab @sserddab They are rather heavy...I think they go way back....ebay searches always turn them up...but shipping is killer....adds to price! best to find such close to home, as I was lucky to do:-) Thanks for letting regale ya, Joseph--!! ...Cheers!, XOsLaurie

  • Love your sound... and your voice :)

    All the best dear Laurie!

  • @Rouyome Thankyou dear friend Guillaume....this was simple, just freestanding recording...kinda nice for a change...!

  • wonderful story song laurie

i'm sure the bakelite banjo is happy

to have a new lease on life with this

nice lady and her sweet voice

and tender fingers. joy both ways.

    peace,rich

  • @kidderminsterbro Thankyou Rich!! I think the feeling is mutual, ....closets are dark and lonely places for bright and cheery (and noisy) banjos! lol

Wishing you a wonderful 2012...it passed so quick, I actually missed it!

    XOSLaurie

  • @017mls Thanks Mike!! it's fine for me, i love saving $ too....I think most folks do today....Goodwill is always packed to the gills with happy shoppers......!! OXsLaurie

  • laurie, from the comments i see, 85 clams is not enough to pay for that bakelite banjo...al

  • @1hardblizzard LOL, thankyou Al!!...I'm frugal....it is not food/gas/bills/necessities, but it IS cheap therapy.....hehehe.

    Cheers!!!

    XOSLaurie

  • That's wonderful, Laurie Lee!!! Sounding so sweet...and that banjo was MEANT to be yours!

It was calling out to you....COME GET ME MAMA~ ;) GReat song and singing.... Love it!

    xo NAncy

  • @nllleonard LOL...Nancy, thankyou....I can picture that...it was such a funny impulse and unplanned thing....a son had band practice, I had to deliver him, and the banjo was only another 10 miles out......I caved in grand fashion. This week, the funds much for critical , it woulda bee no banjo for this Mama!...LOL ...been so busy i missed your last upload...I know it's there...just no free time...helping a friend with a project....:-)

    Blessings!!

    XOsLaurie

Thanks so much Wally---it should sound better soon,,,new strings and lowered bridge,,,not bad for the $ .....i don't buy me much,,,the was Christmas and New years and Birthday, all rolled into one:-) I have a custom Bass I'm determined to get fixed...I'm so guilty it's not funny, and busy too....ahhh that's life!

    :-)

  • @cinderellalifestyle I always feel guilty too, I bought a banjo from a guy in a Mcdonalds parking lot and then a few months later I bought a real nice violin from a gal in a Walmart parking lot, they were only 50 bucks each but because I can't do jack with either one yet the guilt just... oh,...hell with the guilt ! I'll get over it. hahaha Ain't craigslist great !?! A fleamarket at my finger-tips.hahaha Good to hear from you ! :-))))

  • @songblurred ...damn, I wish I had said that.

  • @profwaldo Wally, they turn up on ebay--there was one there yesterday, another two of these sold recently, one for 89, the other for 90.....so my price paid was very fair....it's very clean, too....you can enter in a speciaized search at EB.......ebay "alerts" ya when the item pulls up.....I will never solve "the mystery of the banjo" but i do have fun, trying.....LOL

    XOSLaurie
