60's= segregation and racism, mass sexism, cold war fears, the biggest record was by Engelbert Humperdinck, women were sexually objectified as ever, domestic violence was still ok, ideas about eugenics were still being tossed about though less vocally than before due to the Nazi connotation, the beginnings of the increased US presence and intervention in the Mid East which affects us to this day, the decline of Great Britain, Mass genocide in the far east etc....
I wish someone would make a sick video of all the big stuff that happened in the 60s....the music revolution, the moon landing, jfk assasination, the vietnam war....theres more I know
I agree - everybody is entitled to their own opinions; mine being the opposite of yours that's all. To completely disregard the entire history of music for the 40 years, simply shunning it with the words "not very much happened" is a little bit ignorant.
I don't particularly like the music of today - my main interest being in 50s and 60s, however a hell of a lot has happened since 1970 with some great stuff being made. Even the general change in music style has to be at least something!!
IT was beautiful, sad and wonderful all at the same time.
Beautiful because social mores were suddenly being broken. It was no longer a major crime/sin to live with a boyfriend or girlfriend. People were having sex before marriage. Women didn't have to wear bras..LOL to avoid being called names.
There was freedom PPL protested the war.
It was sad because all of our friends, boyfriends, husbands, relatives were getting slaughtered/mamed in NAM or if they didn't some Viet Namiese children were.
have to admitt there was some really good music back then... but everyone was dirty and "against everything" you could say. its sad how were starting to get the 60s mentallity back... having countries full of giant pussies like hippies and enviromentalists dont move the world forward...
what is forward for you is backward to us!! we want a world without nations, a world without war, we want a world that lives in peace and who cares for the poor!! we dont want armies or laws dictating our lives we dont want police that instead of serving brutalize, we dont want to fight against one and other as capitalism wants, we want to live in harmony equality and love as one under the sun! and maybe they were dirty looking but their souls were as beautiful as the dawn on any given day!!love
i grew up in the 60's...it was the greatest !! i have no regrets..i was a very typical hippie...wish i could do it 1 more time..........peace...steven......
40 years later much of the agenda for America is the agenda begun in the 60s. A Black man is running for president in one party, and the Vice Presidential candidate for the other party is a woman. Every one is worried about the environment, Earth Day is an important day for consideration of the impact of people. Much of our culture is world culture now, blue jeans are worn everywhere (even by world leaders). We learned that drugs were a dead end. People worldwide feel free to demonstrate
does anyone have that song called ' ride my pony' made by capt.meat in the 60s ?? if you have plz post it . whatever happened to that dude anyway ? does any one know ??
no . just ' CAPT.MEAT he started in grrenwhich village in the 60s with dylan and all the others , he went to vietnam and got killed and left behiond some recordings but i dont know where they msy be . thanks you for your reply.
My biggest "regret" is not having experienced the 60s and 70s. Things seemed to be so... real, and people would stand together for something they believed in. Alot of the music from theese decades has become immortal classics. It was all one big revolution - there was spirit, man.
Today everything is so cold and mechanical. Maybe because most things come too easy to us now. Everything is easy today with the new technology. It gets boring, really. And the 'music' theese days?... HA!.
Showin my age here, but truth is at the end of the day its where ya heads at that counts, straight world was straight then just like now, music, drugs, whatever is all icing on the cake, you get cool in ya head and you're sorted, thats a timeless space bro . . . the doors of perception didn't vanish cos the 60's ended, no point in pining for time gone by, its here and now, always was.
@80Cetbal08 The end really began on Nov 22, 1963 when Kennedy got shot. CIA / Wall St. war pigs took over and look where we are now. The "Woodstock" 60's was "feel good" diversion. I went to Altamont my senior year high school - freezing winter, buring tires to stay warm, poisoned acid on everything. You could taste it in the water. That was the nail on the coffin. Soundtrack by the Hells Angels - "Born to be wild" (read dead). Mick Jagger channeling Alistair Crowley. "The End" by the Doors.
@80Cetbal08 i couldent agree with you more man...todays music completly sucks and the technoligy...i really wish there was no computer phones or anything like that ya know...and things are too easy and i dont think its going to last because the way things are done here in the 21st centry are wrong. people throw everything away ya know... im a hippy and im 17 right now. i am going to be riding my bike accross the country with a friend of mine lord willing because thats what i believe in.
thing was, money was not a big thing, other than what was needed on the day. Nobody had more than anybody else, and everyone had the notes- the music notes
The 60s was a horrible decade. The only good thing was the music. The music in the 60s was probably the most popular than any other decade. However, the 60s was very violent. Black riots, vietnam war, manson murders, JFK assasinaton, it was very violent. And to think people thought it was the peace decade, pfft.
The 60` 70 where optimistic i think there was a feeling that young people had collective power .that they could change the world. compared to the greed is good 80`s and the apathy of the 90`s. the 60`s wasn't a bad place to be .its got to be better than now .fear is where we are .and we all know where that leads.
holy shit. calm the fuck down. i made this freshman year for a fucking research project on the 60's. i didn't have time to mention every fucking aspect of each day of the whole decade. fuck.
"Peace, Love, and Happiness"??? Umm...what about the Vietnam War, race riots every two weeks, and major assassinations? I think the 60s was a time of "War, Conflict, and Misery." Peace, love, and happiness might have been the era's goal, but that was not its reality.
The 60s, 70s, and 80s were great times, wish I alive then. Nothin' but getting high, protesting a war, and fighting for rights. Living fast, and dying young.

No mention of the damage to Western civilisation or the moral disaster that Hippies inflicted on the world- a wholly irresponsible glide into a fantasy world of phoney oriental mysticism, pseudo marxist escapism, criminal negligence, complaceny, drug use and immorality.
Not one positive or constructive outcome can be attributed to this narcisstic and nihilistic movement of the vain, the spoiled, the stupid- and the ignorant.
Love, Peace and happiness?-they got only consumer morons and WAR!!
One side effect of all that noise and smoke during the sixties was introducing Alan Watts, Ram Dass and others. Now we have Eckhart Tolle and examples of others who preach something other than Capitalism or the old time religion.
I wish I lived in the 60s..It looks awesome..to love one another =] and just listen to the music. Now people have to pick apart eachother. Make fun of them for their littlest flaws..it's not fair. We should learn how to love eachother...Hating's a waste of time.
retrosista, maybe the SQUARES got into dope and sex that way in the 70s-but the first hippies (1962)hardly knew about them.they were into hip philosophy because of all the square crap the 50s had laid on us. but the 50s was good for ONE thing..rock 'n roll. actually the LSD helped you REALLY see yourself and change for the better---but IF you had too much (bad childhood trauma)"baggage" it could screw you up if you didn't have someone "cool"to "guide" you.
You know you contradictaed yourself. How could LSD possibly help you see yourself? The only way you would see yourself would be in an illusional state. If the hippies or squares or whoever wanted to know themselves they would have to find Jesus Chirst first. Now HE is PURE LOVE. Get high on that!
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.Luke 19:27
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.Matthew 13:41-42
You compeletly twist things. the Lord long shows his mercy and TRUE LOVE before wrath. How long must God Watch Humanity rebell against his laws and blasphame and do evil disgusting things to eachothers bodies, unconditionally saving us if we only FREELY BY OUR OWN CHOICE accept what a great sacrifice was made for the likes of us terrible people who lie, cheat, steal, kill, and lust.
The last thing Jesus Christ came to do was start another religion. He is simply the only way home. Christanity is just to believe in Christ, and show it by following his awesome teachings. To Be a god and suffer a thiefs death, so we may have life is pure love. God doesnt twist your arm to love him, he gives you the free choice.
A little moral lesson from the Bible about hanging up the heads of dead people to rot in the sun.
"And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel".Numbers 25:4
At least they weren't tortured forever. Jesus invented that idea.
but hes not real man. when you die, you die. nothing happens. if you kill an ant he doesnt go to heaven. samwe with humans the only difference is we are mor intelligent. im gonna have fun before i die and i pity my christian friends that have a boring ass life because they are waiting for their "afterlife" but its all a scam. LSD weed and shrromms rock!! no crack or that hardcore shit just psychedelics.
I am very sorry you feel the way you do. But know this for certain Jesus is real! And He died for you. So that everything that you ever do can be forgiven once you accept Him as Lord and Savior of your life.
i know jesus is real but what he beleived in i dont believe in. and im sorry if i was kinda harsh but im down with everyone and you can believe wat you want. PEACE
The sense of unity and optimism may never again be duplicated. But young people today are wiser, more mature and practical. Despite being profiled and harrassed by the authorities, refused service and denied jobs because of appearances,(you couldn't even get into Disneyland with long hair) many still made a committment to a lifestyle that was believed better. The time was special but we weren't any more special than the youth of today.
Once my boyfriend were picked up by two people in a school bus. On the side of it was written,"Take the children to the desert". They said they had been staying with the Manson Family. This was before the murders. They were really nice people.

I lived through this era and it still effects my
way of thinking. I return to the Haight/Ashbury
on a regular basis.

effects it in a good way or bad way?

I wish I lived in the 60s..It looks awesome..to love one another =] and just listen to the music. Now people have to pick apart eachother. Make fun of them for their littlest flaws..it's not fair. We should learn how to love eachother...Hating's a waste of time.

Do you think it was so much free love, because there was so many free drugs? That put people in an illusional state?
retrosista 4 years ago
retrosista, maybe the SQUARES got into dope and sex that way in the 70s-but the first hippies (1962)hardly knew about them.they were into hip philosophy because of all the square crap the 50s had laid on us. but the 50s was good for ONE thing..rock 'n roll. actually the LSD helped you REALLY see yourself and change for the better---but IF you had too much (bad childhood trauma)"baggage" it could screw you up if you didn't have someone "cool"to "guide" you.
BEATNIKCASS 4 years ago

Pure love??? Burning people for eternity???
You and jesus are sick

You compeletly twist things. the Lord long shows his mercy and TRUE LOVE before wrath. How long must God Watch Humanity rebell against his laws and blasphame and do evil disgusting things to eachothers bodies, unconditionally saving us if we only FREELY BY OUR OWN CHOICE accept what a great sacrifice was made for the likes of us terrible people who lie, cheat, steal, kill, and lust.

Make me your god or I will burn you? This guy had a weird ego problem.

You really put some thought into your answer. Finding scripture to base your answer on then you must know what John 3:16 says. It includes you.

they never say theor own ideas they alwas quote someone else. to quote jimmy page "christians to the lions"

Your religion thrives on lies. If you look to the truth that is where you find pure love.
-Jesus was a monkey.
imadinosaur459 4 years ago

What is your truth?
retrosista 4 years ago
but hes not real man. when you die, you die. nothing happens. if you kill an ant he doesnt go to heaven. samwe with humans the only difference is we are mor intelligent. im gonna have fun before i die and i pity my christian friends that have a boring ass life because they are waiting for their "afterlife" but its all a scam. LSD weed and shrromms rock!! no crack or that hardcore shit just psychedelics.
KCSpardue 4 years ago
