  • whaha i got a water commercial ad XDD

  • im thirsty now, i'm gonna drink some water...

  • @PROsnipekid That's exactly what I was thinking.

  • hey it doesnt matter how much someone uses, it always go back to the atmosphere!

  • really cool picture at 0:55

  • There's no water shortage even with a large increase in global population. The surface of the earth receives more than 200 times the rain water than what is currently used by man. In my city, 99% of all rain water will have drained off to the ocean within one hour after it falls because no effort is made to capture it (typical as most cities in the world). The engineering and technology has long existed to capture, clean and transport water in massive quanities, it is a political problem.

  • @oyhacrnnR Yes, I agree with you, as well as social and economic problem.

  • no, fresh water can be extracted from many things, what this refers to is the natural supply of fresh water, not the ACTUAL supply of fresh water.

The ACTUAL supply of fresh water is about %60 of the total h2o chemical solutions on planet earth. That means that %40 is impossible to extract pure h20 from via chemical bondage.

The only people who have to worry about fresh water are the lazy ass 3rd world countries who refuse to accept science and political advancement.

  • This sort of stuff kinda reminds me of the movie Daybreakers.

  • population control will still be the best answer for this... the world is not enough for just human alone... more human=more pollution, more land needed.... we need to share this planet for the other species.. because, without them, we wont survive... we need to plant more trees, and use environment friendly tools and machines so we can all live in harmony... without harmony, all this things wont work.... problems will occur...

  • @IRMOZBEY I admit I don't have any major in what we're talking about, but to my understanding the water table doesn't fluctuate due to such circumstances. If it did, people would often have to redig wells to reach water sources once again, but there have been wells around for hundreds of years that still work.

And of course rain is going to fall back on the ocean, but plenty will come to land. You wouldn't believe how many gallons falls on the face of the earth.

  • @IRMOZBEY You gotta realize the cycle speeds up if things get drier. The drier is it, the more evaporation there is, thus more condensation and precipitation. All things balance itself out, and water doesn't disappear. According to the law of conservation of mass which has been a law used for hundreds of years.

  • @IRMOZBEY Did you read my post? Yes it is hard to artificially use ocean water, and that takes energy in of itself. But thanks to God, and his infinitely wise creation, the weather eco system recycles the water in the millions of gallons EACH DAY. Normally called rain. Flush your toilet till the handle breaks, everything will be the same.

    And debate on my friend.

  • This is rubbish. Water recycles itself, even our urine will be evaporated back to the sky as rain eventually. Dirt doesn't make water forever unusable! Its just mixed in with the water, like tomatoes in salsa. To reply to Sylvanace, desalination of sea water is free. The sky does it for us. The ocean is where excess water goes. That is why there is such a small percentage of water inland.

Don't believe things just because it shows Africans thirsty in the desert. That doesn't prove anything.

  • Anyone know the place at 38 ?

Its looks like a little paradise

  • well.... this made me feel terrible about myself... i will try to improve myself...../sigh

  • great

  • If America shut down half of it's swimming pools the problem would be solved. They don't need over a million swimming pools.

  • v all should try our best to save our planet for coming races

  • fucking americans

  • I have an idea: Scoop up tons of ice from Antarctica and ship it to people who don't have access to clean water. You can give them a job and pay them with bottles of clean water.

  • for some reason i just cant belive that it takes 37 gallons water to make a cup of cofee. can you provide me with some references to this claim?

  • @420wizzard perhaps water used for growing cofee is inclusive in the 37 gallons.

  • More junk science from Nat Geo. What's the point of this idiotic video?

  • @Max5941 It's not science junk, or whatever you may call it. The point of this video is for us to be aware of how much water we actually consume and how to use water properly.

  • Excellent work ~~

  • this is kinda a trick

yes all those facts are true BUT that shows how much water is out there, think of all the lakes/rivers/ponds/etc. you can think of, and then think of how that is only .01% of the water on earth, and seeing as we can now turn salt water into fresh water we're fine with that, and I lived in areas of the world that looked like those places most of my life, the water doesn't taste that bad or is that unhealthy

  • Since the greatest amount of water in the USA is using in flushing toilets, everyone quit flushing them, right? :P

  • Greed and ignorance will bring fall to mankind, we need to learn and work integrated with one and other and for the greater cause which is our world which we live in not money or business achievements.

  • When I understand "we are one", I'm happy and satisfied with results. When I've selfish agenda, I feel remorse at the result of my actions. Seeing water and people in this video, having it in life, is a tremendous source of joy and hope for all beings. Beautiful series on water by national geographic.

  • Water has always been scarce on some continents.. the REAL problem is that in the past, let's say 18th century there were not as many people living in Africa.. and the current population grow is pure sign of madness for African authorities which doesn't take any measures to educate people..

  • our civilization is over now

  • should blame , profit-greed of big companies. disposable bottling companies, chemical-agro, mining, plastic wastes in water. pollution (surface & ground water laws) not people using local sustainable practices can survive & help upkeep biodiversity, collect from air-dew.

  • not trying to sound racist or anything, but maybe african's should realize that they shouldn't have 378 babies per mother. I mean slow down on the sex. lol.

  • @AILDforever50

All has to do with education and available medicines. education makes people think about and understand why population growth is bad, medicines means you don't need to have that many kids to spread on the gene pool.

In essence, donating to organizations that support health and education to poor and unprivileged countries is probably the best thing you can do.

  • @AILDforever50

Not trying to sound a like hypocrite, But maybe if Americans and people from other well devoloped counties would stop wasting water on 2-3 showers a day, watering their lawns and washing their cars maybe their would be more water for people in Africa and other countrys

  • You are a moron, it wouldnt make a difference.

  • You know how fast americans have sex?

  • yea, but americans have protected sex which doesnt cause you do have 34 babies every day.

africans dont have protection, thats why they should slow it down.

  • Another thing absent from most African countries is education, the force that moves the species forward from basic survival to species management. Education, poverty and the political/societal power granted to women all have a massive impact on the population growth and distribution rates of a nation or region. Even ask Carl Sagan, as it's mentioned in his final book, "Billions & Billions".

  • @AILDforever50 Not all protected sex slows down birth. Not all contraceptives are correctly made. Seldom, even though ppl uses it, still women gets pregnant because there are tiny holes in the protection. And sperms are very tiny to get through that. :)

  • @AILDforever50

That's so stupid... do you think you d'like to give up the only thing in life that brings you a little bit of a fragment of joy ?

  • @katpower64

did i say give it up? no.

i said slow it down for the sake of their country.

  • Umm, we are totally capable of distilling salt water...whats the big deal? Plus, they didn't actually say how much fresh water is on the planet. The 1% of fresh water that humans have access to and can actually drink is such a monumental amount I don't know why they are making it such a big deal.

  • LOLS=)americans are being blame?sort of?

  • we should be glad to be un such a great country US , and not waste what is given to us , water is precious , and it is sad to understand that we will not truly apreciate it until we dont have it anymore

  • You wonder how much of Nat. Geo's statements in this video are truly facts and not works of fiction....like their python episode. Now that was a work of pure fiction.

  • We don't need pools. People should stop making them and using them. That's a start, right?

  • @ShutMeUpxProductions Maybe. Because pools consume lots of water and whenever water needs to be changed, people just throw it somewhere. For me, let's try to set aside the pool water and use it to clean cars. I don't know. Because pool waters are not that dirty. Leaves just fall on them. Unless people pee in the pool. Yuck. LOL

  • Or sweat.

  • @ThisKidisAwesome97 That's actually a pretty good idea. lol

  • @ShutMeUpxProductions Lol. I wonder why people just dispose water like that you know. And I saw a comment that there is no problem of losing fresh water because we could actually turn salt water into fresh. I was like, ugghh, ok?? that was weird. lol.

  • Stop blaming the USA for everything you bastards. Is it our fault there are billions of chinese, Indians, and others?Birth control is what's needed.

  • Everyone needs to pull their heads out of their asses. There most certainly are not too many humans. Sea water can be converted to fresh water. The water usage in US is a rounded math guess based on energy requirements to do certain things. If people couldn't survive in such poor conditions they wouldn't have been there for as long as they have.

  • dude ur dumb, there are too many humans. Desalination of sea water is fucking costly as fuck, so its not that viable, and ur last sentence just makes no sense. People have never had to live in situations this poor environmentally before, and since were confronted with it now, we need to find a way to survive.

  • @Sylvanace Not too many humans. Too many dumb humans. If people learned the sciences and math there would be a better management of resources, however people are stuck on a money based system that is making the dumb ones worthless with automation. So now dumb people are worried and they should be because they are on the chopping block.

  • @Sylvanace we do it here in abu dhabi

  • @Sylvanace the Navy use evaporators to turn saltwater to fresh so apparently it isnt too costly for them. What is more important, the NASA program or water for the world to drink? The money is there.

  • @cicamore think about it like this dude. American's as a whole are pretty well of in terms of standard of living, drinking water has not yet become a serious problem for us. Because of this, we are comfortable putting money into NASA because it seems o be a better investment. So yea the money is there, but no one wants to direct it towards water usage (aside from heavy supporters of this)

  • 2 million gallons of water were used to make this video

    How about that?

  • LOL @phatydude2

  • the socialization of waste management increases waste

  • lol @ Africa. I only have 1 cup of water! *has 12 babies*

  • the thing about people is that they don't know what they have untile it's gone..

Also the bad part about global warming is that when the fresh water in the glaciers in antarctica melts it's going to mix with the salt water from the ocean and our 70% of our fresh water is going to be gone..

  • global warming is a hoax. open your fucking mind douche.

  • The problem of resources on planet earth is linked to - TOO MANY HUMANS ON PLANET EARTH. Until we solve that problem the world resources will always be in crisis!!!

  • well then u show the good exemple and dont reproduce, u may kill urself also to set a good exemple

  • Much of the global crisis for resources is linked to one major problem -- TO MANY PEOPLE ON PLANET EARTH !!! it's as simple at that.... WAKE UP HUMANS!!!

  • global population thing is not problem... the issue of people saying overpopulation is myth... if you fit everyone in the world, you can fit them all nicely to cover whole area of Texas or size of similar to Texas... it's myth... people are okay to be born... what matters is countries with nuclear waste dumps them in ocean.

  • so we ran out of water???wtf...this was dumb

  • ok sooo the USA is to blame for fresh water shortage pulleeze

  • Can we start harvesting water from glaciers that break off Antarctica?

  • Why does NG always say "America" when they should just say "the modern developed world." If they really want to be such a global organization than they should attack everyone and quit singling us out.

  • It recycles itself. The 37 gallons it took to make the cup of coffee I was drinking while I watched this was back in use before I brewed it.

  • Where is the place at 1:48 ?

  • maybe in 2025 there is an invention that can make a salt water like sea into a fresh water..

    hoping..

  • @batobatopik77

you can distill ocean water and drink it

  • @batobatopik77 There is already a device that does that, and it's portable, but who knows why it's not in mass production

  • r u a travel agent cuz ur sending me on a guilt trip :/

  • But what about desalination?

Regardless, a very heartbreaking and eye-opening video.

  • i still dont know why the toilet has to have fresh water. comes from the same water we drink.

  • dogs, lol

  • Because plumbing two separate water systems in every home, building, and facility would not only be a nightmare but cost more than anyone could afford.

  • One piped-in source is a lot easier to engineer and build and service than two. Also, reclaimed water looks like urine, smells, and stains. We have some buildings around here with reclaimed water for the toilets, and they all look like they need to be flushed, and they all have rings in the bowl. There's no easy way to tell if it's "clean" or not, and will never appear so.

  • what else would you use?? salt water will rust pipes and clog them too, as well you would also need a plant for the toilet water/other thing you think to use and a new water system would be needed in the house as well as new pipes for the wast

  • @EndlessT Yea, pretty wasteful. I was told that in Hong Kong it is illegal to connect the fresh water supply to toilets. There is a separate seawater supply for flushing.

  • @EndlessT population control will still be the best answer for this... the world is not enough for just human alone... more human=more pollution, more land needed.... we need to share this planet for the other species.. because, without them, we wont survive... we need to plant more trees, and use environment friendly tools and machines so we can all live in harmony... without harmony, all this things wont work.... problems will occur...

  • @EndlessT how much water is purely wasted a day is just horrible to think about because of this =(

  • @EndlessT when you drop a small turd the water splashes up into your asshole, what if the water that goes up there has fuckin diseases? your asshole is fucked!

  • African nations have no clean water because they have no treatment plants, they would have no way to power them if they did thanks to eugenicists in the United Nations

  • Yeah poor africa lol. Their problems are all because of evil whitey. Has nothing to do with race, right??

  • its sad to see people drinking brown(dirty) water =\

  • If 3/10 of 1% lasted for milleniums for humans, how much would 3% be?

  • Erm... there were like... how many people max back then? 50 million? 10 million? There are 6 billion now... seriously.

  • Um um um, will you shut up seriously.

PS, each of those 6 billion probably had at least 1 cup of water. You know how many gallons that is? Kid, spend your time doing the math

  • @Vicatoor , 6.5 billion and climbing

  • well done

  • there you go again .. attacking america..

  • Well, when all else fails, attack the ones who have it better than you, right lol?

  • it's still a LOT of water... .. these people make it seem like its a tiny bit

  • I'm sure all the people in who made this video didn't use more than 5 gallons of water per day. Thanks for trying to throw a guilt trip at me for using a toilet, but no thanks...

I got one better for you guys... We should make a law limiting the amount of times a person can use a toilet in a day... AND how many kids you can have...

If you actually believe we should do something like that save the world some trouble and just don't have any kids...

  • @JohnDBloch Maybe you can convince the niggers in Africa to keep their pants on. When they have 10 or 15 kids and they can only feed two of course the others die. And the world knows it is AMERICAS' fault. It always is. Only now we have an idiot in the White House that AGREES with them.

  • @madisonelectronic I'm guessing you've never come across the crazy white folk who have 10+ kids because god is against birth control.

  • the kid limit is very realistic... poeple having 5, 10 kids is unbelievable. then they go on welfare and everyone else ends up paying for them

  • i think ima drain and fill my swimming pool up now..

  • Maybe you should mention that we can extract fresh drinking water from ocean water (salt water), and that we can capture and use rainwater for watering gardens and filling swimming pools (we do), etc.

  • Nuke Antartica! Yes.

  • Blue Gold: World Water Wars.

  • I don't understand the title..

  • lol, how hard is it to figure out?

our world, requires lots of water, life itself requires it to continue, thus...our thirsty world.

  • im going to take a bath now and think about this

  • thank you for this video

  • Great. Tell everyone how shitty the situation is, then fail to offer even a single thing we can do to help. *golf clap*

if you're interested in helping, look into permaculture. a good documentary to watch is call "In danger of falling fruit."

  • 0:39 who can tell me where this is so i can suggest the vacation to my parents!! hahaha

  • but brawndo's got electrolytes its what plants crave

  • This made me want to drink water

  • I agree we should have a law that says we can only have one child.

The worst part of it is that the poorest countries produce the most children.

  • Well, in the United States we don't really need that law. Maybe two or three at the most. Those people who are having 10 to even 18 kids need to be put in prison.

  • @14Manor14 they have the most children by necessity. In the poorest, densest parts of India the parents reason that unless they have several children there will be no one alive to take care of them in their old age.

  • @14Manor14 Taking people rights away isn't going to solve anything.

  • @14Manor14 how could you enforce such a law? sometimes mother give birth to twins or triplets.

  • murder. lol jk

  • lol yeah i know get a fucking job or try to live better than start making ur fucking football team(children)

  • Comment removed

  • why dont we replace the water going into toilets with ocean water if 26% of the water the u.s. uses goes towards that?

  • @SpartanXConquer Salt water would corrode pipes and sewage systems. Also, it would require an absurd amount of ingenuity and energy to build a system that transports the water from the ocean to peoples toilets inland. I believe this is already in effect in some coastal cities, but I might just be thinking of desalination plants in california.

  • @SpartanXConquer Yes, why don't we? Seems so obvious, doesn't it...

  • The reason that millions of the worlds poorest subsist on fewer than five gallons per day is because they live in a desert or some african bush somewhere. If they lived near a lake then it wouldnt be a problem...

  • you just said the problem... they live in a desert

  • @JustinBaker2567

I guess they should all move then!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!

    :|

  • @JustinBaker2567 And their own governments are keeping them this poor. I doubt the presidents of any of these countries goes without fresh water.

  • Serious stuff.

  • The above-average Sierra snow helped us!

  • can we afford desalination???/

  • i don't believe that the worlds water is diminishing. I mean we could use ocean water for drinking via desalination, like they do in saudi arabia.

  • if we are pointing fingers... then we are only responsible for our own actions.. there will always be pollitics and rich people doing there thing... but only you decide if you want to help or hurt our earth...be well

  • does anyone know where the pic w/ the rope swing is

  • in 15 years from now, we're screwed

  • yup:( what makes it hard is we know its coming. and quick to

  • You know what wouldnt fix this problem? Your whinning and bitching. Less talk more action.

  • but middle class americans being suckered and fooled by our government are to blame lol...you wanna blame someone blame all the rich bastards who run the world...all the governments---china, russia, america, canada, france, germany, england....blame these bastards who are swimming in pools of money..they know the problems of our world...but do they spare any to help all the poor suffering?? nope...they keep rackin the money in...but hey if it helps out your ego to blame americans than go ahead..

  • like america is the only place where water is being put in pools and flushed down a toilet??? this video sucks....i love how america and the people who live there are some how blamed for every problem on this planet.."global warming"-blame us....3rd world countries in drought---blame america....this is getting old people...do you really think americans caused all this?? the problem is much more complicated than that...theres fuckin filthy rich fuks all over the world owning 10 cars 5 houses

  • wow... nice video.

  • at what pressure does water boils at 25 C?

  • FINALLY! A video national geographic didn't ban in Canada for copyright things. My geography teacher was disapointed that she couldn't show us some educational videos cause NG banned them.

  • 20 percent for toilet.. pheeww..

    greetings from Europe..

  • lol of course America has to be the most Water hugging people on the face of the planet! and yet you people still fine a watch to bitch, and complain about you're government.... u people need to get fucking real

  • The picture of the water boots is amazing.

  • All complain on how much we are draining our resources, but do nothing to help it out. People should not be breeding like rabbits if water and food supplies are low.

  • I guess we should think more about drinking, not about swimming and washing....

  • @Ferbbie ..... Umm... Well. I don't say drinking isn't good. But washig is important too. And swimming, keeps you fit, so hehe!!! :S

Noo, I was kidding. Im not that mean. I prefer drinking and staying alive, than swimming.

Still, I'm not sure about washing...

  • I will share this with Facebook.

  • @extremedanush

    who is facebook

  • A slide-show, National Geographic? Really? With nothing but statistics? Incredibly, incredibly misleading statistics? Shame on you, you're better than that.

  • The only answer for people without water in the area they live in.

Move closer to a water source.

  • @im1greatman you dumb fuck...you think its that easy in places like africa to do that....dumbass

  • yeah then they start polluting that source

  • if only it was that simple...

  • Great video !

  • wow 1% fresh water

  • If it's yellow let it mellow. If it's brown flush it down. If it's any other colour see a physician immediately.

  • You americans are bad ppl :P jk But those numbers are really scary...we should think about that

  • Your no better by speaking such rubbish... think about that.

  • @Nickzilla22 hahaha ey tough guy..do you know what "jk" stands for ?

  • The thing is if u boil salt water. salt will stay on bootom. the rain will evaporate and rain will be caused. it will be fresh water.

  • @hevylifter u i think they know way more than you so ur the dumass

  • I like the transition of sad music to nice, sweet music. It's a great change in emotion as well. Just think of it everybody. Water is everybody. We are water.

  • WOOOW nice vid!! Very intresting

  • we are not out of water in places where people use water so much (using less water in us will not make more water appear in africa) and our planet is simply overpopulated, we have problems with pollution and with all sorts of resources because there is too many people making more people.

  • 5/5.

  • in other words with out water where nothing and ppl think money is more important

  • 834 views?? shame on us

  • @yandrey012807 there are more important videos (also views update slow on youtube)

  • Shame on you for sitting at your computer.

  • If we want to continue encroaching on nature, overfishing and destroying earth(our only home), we better tap into those glacial supplies. And remember y'all: if it's brown flush it down, if it's yellow, let it mellow!
