@lexii1958 Hey Lexi. Go up and look under the video there. See where it says Sunny's back? Well click "more". There is a huge sort of ... tutorial on how I got him to talk!
dawww sunny is so cute! I would love to have a male tiel but I have 2 girls. and they can sing! and say pretty bird. i'm like...I thought the boys sing lol?
Hey, since I LOVE parakeet and parrot videos, I wanted to share mine - cause I finally was able to add my own. If you want to, take a look at it :) it's the newest one in my videos.
@JustK8 Hey! Omg, your keet IS talented. You're so lucky. I've never had a parakeet imitate anything. By the way, he is doing songs and sounds that are not typical of keets at all!!!! So, he is doing more than you think. Apprarently he hears some songbird outside or elsewhere too. Thanks for showing me the video.
I have a cockatiel too and he can say things like "He's a good bird!", "Oh, little bird!", and "That's a goood bird!". Basically, all he does it talk about himself and say he's a good bird in in various different ways. He'll chuckle to himself sometimes when he's alone too. It's funny. :)
This is really amazing.... it's like whistle-talking as one of my "friends' had previously said about things like this. How did he learn it? Birds mostly whistle in the sound of the word, as in Cockatiels. At least the cockatiels I've heard/seen. I have three cockatiels myself, and none of them can do this. Love it!
@lovelylittlelaugher You nailed it right on the head! This is what makes him special. That and the fact that he has learned "language" with a few of his phrases. I am grateful that someone told me to use my normal voice with no going up in tone ALWAYS, and for my hubby to raise his just a tad. That way he'd use a real voice. It helps.
wow! how in the world did he learn that?? i thought that only parrot type birds can talk that good and clearly.... any tips???? i love your vid btw, very cute!! <3
@KJ7FrozenHeart thanks so much! Sunny is VERY unusual for a cockatiel. But yah, for males, it is possible to learn to talk fairly well and to have some good vocab. I've head others almost as clear. I've not heard anything more clear in a tiel on YT yet though. When I first got him as a baby, I had far too much time on my hands lmao! I spent all day every day with him. I even napped wtih him. It paid off.
@wolfysluv haha, thats awsome! i guess ill have to start spending more time with mine to get him to open up more. thanks ;), and good job, with your teil!
I'm gettign my Cockatiel next week after it's fully weaned. When do you think I should start trying to teach it to talk. What do you think is to early? THANX
@robertmarc1 They can start to talk at six months of age. But its' not rare for them to go all the way towards a year and not talk. If I remember, I started with sunny when he came home with me ... that was at about 17 weeks of age I think (whats that 4 months?). I only tried to teach him "hi" seriously. Nothing else really. When he started to say hi, then I poured it on. Went all out hard and heavy with teaching him to talk.
@maximusthecockatiel if you are talking to him when he does it? Thats natural. Its just some weird thing they do when they are really listening to you. If there is no sound when he does it, I have no idea and would maybe take him to the vet.
PLEASE PLEASE help me out! I'm a stay at home mom, so I have time to spend with him. I just really need some pointers! I'd truly appreciate you helpin me out. Please and thank you!! :-D
@Bonniandbryant Click the arrow that points up under the right side of the video in the "description". A ton of information will flow down. In case this isn't enough go to Chats wtih Sunny, do the same thing, there might be more info. And really thats all I can offer. Sunny is very special. Thats why no other youtube movie of a cockatiel comes even close to what he can do. They can't even do half of what he can do. We just hit it lucky in the lottery.
Hi! Love it!! lol He's SOOOO cute!! :-D We just got a cockatiel. He's about 8 weeks, maybe 9. He's picked up on the famous whistle....you know what I'm talkin about? whhhiiii whhooo lol I have no clue on who to type it, so I hope you know what whistle I'm speaking of. I'm workin really hard on tryin to get him to talk. Any pointers? How did you get yours to speak? I know he's young and it'll take a while but he picked up on that whistle about after 2 weeks of him being in our home. PLEASE
I've been in the Avian field now, for about 20yrs give or take. And in that time, i've had my fair share of Cockatiels, none of which spoke with the "clarity" yours does...!!! Cockatiels "typically" are excellent whistlers, and can obviously be taught to sing different tunes. However, your tiel takes the cake, in my opinion hands down...!!! I currently have, a 7 month old "IRN" or Indian Ringneck. And honestly i've been looking for a male, Lutino or Pied Cockatiel, so my IRN has a "play buddy".
My cockatiel is 5 months old now. He/she(?) spends most of the time on my shoulder and likes to eat whatever I'm eating. So far all he does is tweet like a bird. When the phone rings, he tweets real loud. He won't let me touch him with my hand, but he loves to schmooze face to face. He naps a lot on my shoulder, leaning on my neck in the evening. He get separation anxiety when it's time to go back in his cage. I hope he learns to sing next year. So much fun when they sing!
No offense taken! The feedback helps. The stuffing up does not happen elsewhere, so that's either the site at the time, connection, or even your puter at one point. The blurriness, I know isn't it bad? There are vids on here taken witha little Olympus cam that are crystal clear. I bought an expensive Sony and this is what I get. Devastating.
That's awsome but on mine it keeps stuffing up so I can't watch it properly beside I'm not saying this in a bad way it's just it was all blury on mine - Its excellent ok so don't feel bad ok mate
hes really smart to be able to talk, ive owned cockatiel for a long time, and i can only get them to sing and make noises but not talk lol, some they i shall have a talkin bird aswell
hey i have 3 cocatiels but all they do is stay in the top of the cage and when ever i try to grab the femal it bites me like no tomorrow but not the males... all of them are 6 months old... when can i get the birds to do some cool stuff?
@disisgood123 lol, okay mr/ms coolstuff. Sunny is so sweet cause we got him as a real baby that was totally hand raised (17 weeks old). So that really makes a difference. People can teach their birds to talk and do tricks though who aren't even that tame though. The bird has to feel bonded to you though. Like you are its friend and it wants to be around you. Read the vid descrip and it gives you instructions on how to teach them to talk.
I wanted to say too, that when a bird is older and has never been really tamed before, it takes unbelievable patience, time and gentleness to get their trust. You cant' force it like you already tried to do. Cause as you see it just doesnt' work. Sometimes it can even make a bird worse. Maybe you should concentrate on the sweetest one you have a LOT. And then try to pick them up with him on your hand or something. I semi tamed a mean budgie that way (with a nice one).
Sunny is just so cute!!! This just shows how smart cockatiels can be with constant love and attention. I need to teach our tiels the "BAT BIRD!" and I LOVE the "dead budgie" lol
i have two female cockatiels and the elder one bullies the younger one. like pecks at her when they stand next to each other. yet the younger one still likes to follow the elder one. is this some type of seniority?
@huiberry I'm not sure. Now, I did have two budgies that were similar. But the one didn't necessarily bully the other. He just kinda bossed him around. Told him where he could and couldn't go with taps on the beak and noises. I'd watch it if it seems like real bullying ya know? Watch to make sure one doenst start picking feathers from itself or the other one. You should maybe join a bird message board for cockatiels and ask. (Tailfeathersnetwork or AvianAvenue)
I just got a female cockatiel about 2 weeks ago, she's so cute. She took to me fast. The only concern i've got is when she's in her cage she won't move, climb or do anything. She'll sit by her food and just stay there. She's very active and curious when she is out of her cage. I've tried tempting her with treats to come out of her cage, but nothing.. She won't move. Any suggestions?
@xithbaby I wouldn't fret too badly. Cockatiels really don't "play" like budgies and other parrots. They perch. Wander a little. Nibble on toys occasionally. They do not climb about and flap all day like some others. Just intermittently. Yet outside with you, it's a diff story. All I can suggest is persistance. Do what you are doing. Every day, several times a day for a few minutes. It'll click eventually
I love how he says "dead budgie" lol, i'm getting a male cockatiel next week, i'm gonna train him to say that, i have budgies so it will be funny to hear him say that to the budgies, lol
about a week ago i got two cockatiels male and female i got them a huge cage and all this stuff but they dont make any sound they just sit next each other not moving and no they are not babies do you have an explaination or can you help me?
@brekster100 I'm clueless. Babies are like that. Not 1 year olds and up. Maybe they are younger than a year honestly. A week is nothing in "bird time". The live as long as many humans remember. It takes weeks to adjust. Big parrots can take months for them to be their "real" selves. Don't worry about it!
@brekster100 that is normal when any bird of any age is brought into a new home, they're scared and unsure of the new environment once they get used to it though they'll do a lot more
@XMdan808 Click the little arrow down under the movie to see off of the description. I tell in detail how I made him talk. :) Ask for your cockatiel to be dna sexed first. If he is a normal grey, and his face is getting some yellow, its probably a boy. No way to tell with other colors except a test. Girls "can" talk. But they don't. Almost never. They can be even cuddlier and they do great mimicing sounds and stuff though.
okay i have two cockatiels one boy one girl the girl is mean as fuck she's wild as won come to anymore she when she bites her bites hurt and the boy he's not bad as her but he dont like being picked up i was i wondering hows the best way to train both of them?
@gossipgirlisme You're probably asking the wrong person. Because I'm not patient and it takes a long, long time and patience to train birds. I'd go somewhere like Avian Avenue online or google Kit Kats parrot chat. And go ask them, they are awesome. I do know one thing. I'd start with finding out what treat is irresistable to them and not give it to them unless they take it from your hand. And try to get them to step up that way.
Okay well how do i find a breeder? I live in a small town in Louisiana and i dont know many people that own any sort of bird except the neighbor. They have a ringneck dove.
I am thinking of getting a pet cockatiel and to see what I was getting myself into I searched videos of them and ran across Sunny here and I absolutely adore him! If you have any advice I'd really love to hear from you!
@calibirdiful YES. Get a handraised (not just hand fed or what is said to be handraised in petsmart) baby cockatiel. Breeders sell healthier, tamer, better birds at half the price of a pet store. This is why Sunny bonded this tightly. So please, go that route, you will not regret it. Tiels tend ot have a velcro like bond. They are snuggly.

I really dont know. He got half of his vocab by the first year which is really unsusual. He has not learned a new word in almost a year which is really frustrating. He is now four.
Sunny is quite a talented wonder! You must spend a lot of time with him. I have two males that are great whistlers but they have never spoken a single word. Your video gives me hope though - great video!! Thanks!!
How long did it take for you to teach him those different phrases. I have two cockatiels, one male and one female. Lastly, are my cockatiels more likely to pick up a woman's voice over mine.....
@lovology2003 Sometimes Sunny picks something up in 1 month. Sometimes many months. Yes, they say they pick up womens voices easier. BUT, they also tend to squeek and whistel words because womens voices are higher pitched (they raise them when talking to animals making them squeeky). A man, if he has a medium to high pitch is great because then the bird really sounds lik ehe's talking like Sunny. Sunny picks up my husband and me. Hubby tries not to be too low, I try to stay low.
How long did it take for you to teach him those different phrases. I have two cockatiels, one male and one female. Lastly, are my cockatiels more likely to pick up a woman's voice over mine.....
I have been trying to read alot about cockateils as i have never had one before.... But recently while outdoors one landed on my head, I think he was scared as he nuzzled in my neck, so I took him home and well gave him a home, I did put an
hey, sunnys such a hero! lol. does ayone know whether or not you need to get cockatiel nails cut like dogs get theirs cut? cos my one keeps getting his foot stuck on t-shirts, jumpers, socks (which he loves to talk to) etc.
@HerrAirburst It's so hard to do little birds nails, that the only easy way to do it is to use sandy perches. At PetSmart there are colorful perches that have sand on them. Some have sand just on each side of the perch so that the middle of the foot does not sit on the sand, but all of the nails and toes DO hit the sand. Let me tell ya, THEY WORK. If you put the perch where they sleep or eat, they work. Just make sure the feet don't get sore, red, or something.
Many stores which specialize in birds, actually do groom the birds toenails. They use a small Dremel tool, and a specific kind of grinding wheel. This must be done with the utmost of care, as there is a blood supply to these toenails, and if you cut their nails too much they can bleed to death. Take your bird to avian vet or a store that specializes in birds, where he can be groomed correctly. Some stores offer it free, some only charge a few bucks. It is cheap compared to a broken toe/ankle.
Thank you for all the videos of Sunny.. my aunt gave me her cockatiel Buddy, and I've been trying to teach him for months to say.. or.. mimic (lol) anything other than pretty bird.. after ONE sunny video he picked up "What cha doin" !! haha Thank you!! :D
I cannot believe that. I know there is one gal on here who was trying to teach hers the batbird .. and using the video he learned! She ever put a video of him copying sunny on the computer up on youtube. It was a trip!
@wolfysluv The only thing I can think, is he used to know it and.. forgot? LOL, because Sunny says "What are you doing" and Buddy only says "What cha doin" but he definitely only started saying it after seeing the Chats with Sunny video
what right have we got to take a birds basic need to fly away from it! they already eat wot we tell them come out of the cage when we tell them go back when we tell them. this is a step to far.learn to shut the door or don't have one
@mansfieldladdale I'm actually really glad you posted this. First, now that I have a big bird, I question if we should keep them as pets unless they get outdoor aviary time regularly. The little ones, who are also extremely social like Sunny, dont make me fret as much. As far as the clipping. Half of me feels like you do. I mean it is crippling just like if we cut a humans heal tendon so they can't run, right?
@mansfieldladdale part 2 On the other hand, no matter what, I dont care what anyone says given enough years, a fully flighted bird is an accident waiting to happen. And if they get out, it's a horrendous, sickening certain death. So, I try to compromise. All my birds only have tips clipped off the wings. They fly everywhere, but they aren't not capable .. of flying for miles if they get out.
@wolfysluv/mansfieldladdale part 3. Sunny is fully clipped because he goes out all over every single day. This is for safety. He in actuality has a HIGHER quality of life than most pet birds, even those fully flighted in a home. He can fly a little. And he rides in the car, travels and goes places for hours. A home is just a big cage after all.
@wolfysluv is this really for sonnys welfare or your own convenience. birds like to fly not ride in cars.a house is like a big cage but they can go where they like within it. u make it sound like s is having an adventure.he doesn't go anywhere on his own accord he can't. its like us relying on someone to push us about in a wheelchair but at least we can say where we want to go. he can't get much exercise. i know u really care 4 your birds i used to b like u but changed my mind.hope u do 2
@mansfieldladdale This is a great thing to discuss and people need to hear all sides. I imagine we both are right in many areas. Obviously one of us is more right than the other. And I dont know who right now. In my mind, I wonder any more if they should be house pets because keeping them flighted does pose such risk, but crippling them is bad too. Youre right with a lot of your points and I"m glad you came on and said something.
I also wanted to say, I really do feel its for a birds protection to at least have some clipping. Too, too many horrific stories of them getting out for me. And taking Sunny out each day is not a convenience at all. The opposite. Ever since he was a baby he's been with us and yells to go out if he hears the keys. Even if we never took him outside again, I would have his wings clipped, just not as much. thanks again, and yup, I could change my mind in the future.
@wolfysluv i think birds can have a good life in captivity although its not going to be as good as in the wild. the problem is not everyone cares as much as we do.a bird can also have a miserable existance.there should be stronger controls on buying any animal.maybe having to go on a course on looking after them before you can buy.this might put off alot of people who buy on the spur of the moment and then dont bother when the novelty has worn off.too many mistreated unwanted pets in the world
part 4 So, if you think they shouldnt' be kept as pets at all, half of me agrees. If you think they shouldnt have at least a little clip, I strongly disagree.
Good question. My experience is that male cockatiels talk more readily than budgies. Many budgies just dont talk. But when a budgie learns, they really talk a lot and have a big vocabulary. Youtube talking budgie. Compare that to Sunny (and remember Sunny is as good as they get). See which is better to your own ear. :)
my cockatiel's name is booger ;) cause he's got a green moehawk.
He's my prized possession if he flew away I'd kill myself.
IF you're a bird lover, you know that they're like children.
And it's such a blessing experience to hold one of these brilliant little birds, To know you're holding an animal thats capable of flying away from you, but it has the intention to stay
they are extremely extremely smart addorable birds.
@ruthrodney1 I think he's about 3 now (I'd have to check). I was told most don't talk til nearly 1 years old. But he began after like 6 months? Maybe earlier? It started with one word. Once you get them to do 2 words, they usually take off.
I bout killed myself trying ya know? No luck. I tried with just one starting as a baby for months and months before getting the second. That didnt' even work. It amazes me how many talking budgies there are on youtube.
See, this is why there's a Youtube. Can you imagine all of us trudging through your house to see this bird? On the other hand, you are kept from going completely crazy from bird tones by sharing them with us. See, win-win.
No, can you believe it??? We had them one at a time for months, seperately and worked like the devil teaching them and teaching them to be tame. yet nothing. We gave up and put them together. not even Sunny can teach them to talk, or teach them to like us for anything else but occassional perching.
i got a cockatiel but he wont talk he is 1 year old all he knows is to do the phone noise and he wistles the same tune everyday but my female cockatiel wont do anythink but i mostly want my male cockatiel to talk check him out on my account :)
Oh my gosh! that is the prettiest cockatiel I've ever seen!!! You are so lucky. Thanks for coming here so we could all go see him. How do you teach one to wave?

I've been in the Avian field now, for about 20yrs give or take. And in that time, i've had my fair share of Cockatiels, none of which spoke with the "clarity" yours does...!!! Cockatiels "typically" are excellent whistlers, and can obviously be taught to sing different tunes. However, your tiel takes the cake, in my opinion hands down...!!! I currently have, a 7 month old "IRN" or Indian Ringneck. And honestly i've been looking for a male, Lutino or Pied Cockatiel, so my IRN has a "play buddy".

Potsgirl22 1 year ago
My cockatiel is 5 months old now. He/she(?) spends most of the time on my shoulder and likes to eat whatever I'm eating. So far all he does is tweet like a bird. When the phone rings, he tweets real loud. He won't let me touch him with my hand, but he loves to schmooze face to face. He naps a lot on my shoulder, leaning on my neck in the evening. He get separation anxiety when it's time to go back in his cage. I hope he learns to sing next year. So much fun when they sing!
basspig 1 year ago
No offense taken! The feedback helps. The stuffing up does not happen elsewhere, so that's either the site at the time, connection, or even your puter at one point. The blurriness, I know isn't it bad? There are vids on here taken witha little Olympus cam that are crystal clear. I bought an expensive Sony and this is what I get. Devastating.

That's awsome but on mine it keeps stuffing up so I can't watch it properly beside I'm not saying this in a bad way it's just it was all blury on mine - Its excellent ok so don't feel bad ok mate

hey i have 3 cocatiels but all they do is stay in the top of the cage and when ever i try to grab the femal it bites me like no tomorrow but not the males... all of them are 6 months old... when can i get the birds to do some cool stuff?
disisgood123 1 year ago
@disisgood123 lol, okay mr/ms coolstuff. Sunny is so sweet cause we got him as a real baby that was totally hand raised (17 weeks old). So that really makes a difference. People can teach their birds to talk and do tricks though who aren't even that tame though. The bird has to feel bonded to you though. Like you are its friend and it wants to be around you. Read the vid descrip and it gives you instructions on how to teach them to talk.
wolfysluv 1 year ago
I wanted to say too, that when a bird is older and has never been really tamed before, it takes unbelievable patience, time and gentleness to get their trust. You cant' force it like you already tried to do. Cause as you see it just doesnt' work. Sometimes it can even make a bird worse. Maybe you should concentrate on the sweetest one you have a LOT. And then try to pick them up with him on your hand or something. I semi tamed a mean budgie that way (with a nice one).

i have two female cockatiels and the elder one bullies the younger one. like pecks at her when they stand next to each other. yet the younger one still likes to follow the elder one. is this some type of seniority?
huiberry 1 year ago

Any suggestions?
xithbaby 1 year ago
@xithbaby I wouldn't fret too badly. Cockatiels really don't "play" like budgies and other parrots. They perch. Wander a little. Nibble on toys occasionally. They do not climb about and flap all day like some others. Just intermittently. Yet outside with you, it's a diff story. All I can suggest is persistance. Do what you are doing. Every day, several times a day for a few minutes. It'll click eventually

about a week ago i got two cockatiels male and female i got them a huge cage and all this stuff but they dont make any sound they just sit next each other not moving and no they are not babies do you have an explaination or can you help me?
brekster100 1 year ago
@brekster100 I'm clueless. Babies are like that. Not 1 year olds and up. Maybe they are younger than a year honestly. A week is nothing in "bird time". The live as long as many humans remember. It takes weeks to adjust. Big parrots can take months for them to be their "real" selves. Don't worry about it!
wolfysluv 1 year ago
@brekster100 that is normal when any bird of any age is brought into a new home, they're scared and unsure of the new environment once they get used to it though they'll do a lot more

I'm getting a cockatiel next month.
It should be a male but it would be hard to say cuse he will be 2 months old ;P
I have a question, How did you train him to talk like that?
Just repeat the word til' he will start saying that too?
(I tried to sent this msg with my other acc but I wasnt sure it sent it, so I tried with that acc too..)
XMdan808 1 year ago
@XMdan808 Click the little arrow down under the movie to see off of the description. I tell in detail how I made him talk. :) Ask for your cockatiel to be dna sexed first. If he is a normal grey, and his face is getting some yellow, its probably a boy. No way to tell with other colors except a test. Girls "can" talk. But they don't. Almost never. They can be even cuddlier and they do great mimicing sounds and stuff though.

gossipgirlisme 1 year ago
@gossipgirlisme You're probably asking the wrong person. Because I'm not patient and it takes a long, long time and patience to train birds. I'd go somewhere like Avian Avenue online or google Kit Kats parrot chat. And go ask them, they are awesome. I do know one thing. I'd start with finding out what treat is irresistable to them and not give it to them unless they take it from your hand. And try to get them to step up that way.

calibirdiful 1 year ago
@calibirdiful YES. Get a handraised (not just hand fed or what is said to be handraised in petsmart) baby cockatiel. Breeders sell healthier, tamer, better birds at half the price of a pet store. This is why Sunny bonded this tightly. So please, go that route, you will not regret it. Tiels tend ot have a velcro like bond. They are snuggly.

How long did it take for you to teach him those different phrases. I have two cockatiels, one male and one female. Lastly, are my cockatiels more likely to pick up a woman's voice over mine.....
lovology2003 1 year ago
@lovology2003 Sometimes Sunny picks something up in 1 month. Sometimes many months. Yes, they say they pick up womens voices easier. BUT, they also tend to squeek and whistel words because womens voices are higher pitched (they raise them when talking to animals making them squeeky). A man, if he has a medium to high pitch is great because then the bird really sounds lik ehe's talking like Sunny. Sunny picks up my husband and me. Hubby tries not to be too low, I try to stay low.

hey, sunnys such a hero! lol. does ayone know whether or not you need to get cockatiel nails cut like dogs get theirs cut? cos my one keeps getting his foot stuck on t-shirts, jumpers, socks (which he loves to talk to) etc.
HerrAirburst 1 year ago
@HerrAirburst It's so hard to do little birds nails, that the only easy way to do it is to use sandy perches. At PetSmart there are colorful perches that have sand on them. Some have sand just on each side of the perch so that the middle of the foot does not sit on the sand, but all of the nails and toes DO hit the sand. Let me tell ya, THEY WORK. If you put the perch where they sleep or eat, they work. Just make sure the feet don't get sore, red, or something.
wolfysluv 1 year ago
@wolfysluv thanks for replying so quick :) will try see if i can get some. thanks
HerrAirburst 1 year ago
Many stores which specialize in birds, actually do groom the birds toenails. They use a small Dremel tool, and a specific kind of grinding wheel. This must be done with the utmost of care, as there is a blood supply to these toenails, and if you cut their nails too much they can bleed to death. Take your bird to avian vet or a store that specializes in birds, where he can be groomed correctly. Some stores offer it free, some only charge a few bucks. It is cheap compared to a broken toe/ankle.

what right have we got to take a birds basic need to fly away from it! they already eat wot we tell them come out of the cage when we tell them go back when we tell them. this is a step to far.learn to shut the door or don't have one
mansfieldladdale 1 year ago
@mansfieldladdale I'm actually really glad you posted this. First, now that I have a big bird, I question if we should keep them as pets unless they get outdoor aviary time regularly. The little ones, who are also extremely social like Sunny, dont make me fret as much. As far as the clipping. Half of me feels like you do. I mean it is crippling just like if we cut a humans heal tendon so they can't run, right?
wolfysluv 1 year ago
@mansfieldladdale part 2 On the other hand, no matter what, I dont care what anyone says given enough years, a fully flighted bird is an accident waiting to happen. And if they get out, it's a horrendous, sickening certain death. So, I try to compromise. All my birds only have tips clipped off the wings. They fly everywhere, but they aren't not capable .. of flying for miles if they get out.
wolfysluv 1 year ago
@wolfysluv/mansfieldladdale part 3. Sunny is fully clipped because he goes out all over every single day. This is for safety. He in actuality has a HIGHER quality of life than most pet birds, even those fully flighted in a home. He can fly a little. And he rides in the car, travels and goes places for hours. A home is just a big cage after all.
wolfysluv 1 year ago
@wolfysluv is this really for sonnys welfare or your own convenience. birds like to fly not ride in cars.a house is like a big cage but they can go where they like within it. u make it sound like s is having an adventure.he doesn't go anywhere on his own accord he can't. its like us relying on someone to push us about in a wheelchair but at least we can say where we want to go. he can't get much exercise. i know u really care 4 your birds i used to b like u but changed my mind.hope u do 2
mansfieldladdale 1 year ago
@mansfieldladdale This is a great thing to discuss and people need to hear all sides. I imagine we both are right in many areas. Obviously one of us is more right than the other. And I dont know who right now. In my mind, I wonder any more if they should be house pets because keeping them flighted does pose such risk, but crippling them is bad too. Youre right with a lot of your points and I"m glad you came on and said something.
wolfysluv 1 year ago
I also wanted to say, I really do feel its for a birds protection to at least have some clipping. Too, too many horrific stories of them getting out for me. And taking Sunny out each day is not a convenience at all. The opposite. Ever since he was a baby he's been with us and yells to go out if he hears the keys. Even if we never took him outside again, I would have his wings clipped, just not as much. thanks again, and yup, I could change my mind in the future.
wolfysluv 1 year ago
@wolfysluv i think birds can have a good life in captivity although its not going to be as good as in the wild. the problem is not everyone cares as much as we do.a bird can also have a miserable existance.there should be stronger controls on buying any animal.maybe having to go on a course on looking after them before you can buy.this might put off alot of people who buy on the spur of the moment and then dont bother when the novelty has worn off.too many mistreated unwanted pets in the world
mansfieldladdale 1 year ago
part 4 So, if you think they shouldnt' be kept as pets at all, half of me agrees. If you think they shouldnt have at least a little clip, I strongly disagree.

are cockatials better talkers than budgies?
katrinaHill2 1 year ago
Good question. My experience is that male cockatiels talk more readily than budgies. Many budgies just dont talk. But when a budgie learns, they really talk a lot and have a big vocabulary. Youtube talking budgie. Compare that to Sunny (and remember Sunny is as good as they get). See which is better to your own ear. :)

they are extremely extremely smart addorable birds.
