I feel ur pain man!!! I have a problem with my muscles hardening. They get so tight that they need deep tissue massage and it hurts like a motherfucker!!
Injuries need a little push in the right direction, especially when there's an upcoming game/meet where we're demanding a lot from our bodies. Just because something is "painful" doesn't mean it's bad for you... It's the job of physios and sports med docs to get us back out there as quickly as SAFELY possible. They know what they're doing, and they wouldn't let us compete if there were any real risk of further injury. There is a huge difference between "hurt" and "harm".
@GeneralQuackers Don't worry about what this DeadlyChinchilla dude is saying. I don't think that non-athletes think along the same lines as people in competitive sports... And I don't consider "active" people or people involved in recreational sports to be "athletes". By athletes, I mean people in a high(er) level of sport that have dedicated a good chunk of their lives to their craft. You don't have the time to idly sit around with an ice/heat-pack and let the injury heal in its own time. Inju
I had one the other day for my legs (IT band and hip flexor causing problems) and the pain was unbelievable. In all my years of playing sports I was never injured and this was the first time I had a sports massage, but despite the most excruciating pain I've ever experienced in my entire life, the benefits are priceless. Would I go through it again? Hell yeh.
Wow... did you get some bum off the street to do the massage? First off, if its painful, he's doing it wrong. Second, he can actually make an injury WORSE trying to "force" the muscles. Third, he didn't even attempt to warm the muscle up before he dug right in. Fourth, the leg needs to be laid flat so the muscle can be manipulated properly. Need I go on?
Get someone that actually knows what they're doing next time...
@stalingrad32 It does not require rapid, pain-inducing gyrations and scream-inducing pressure to increase blood flow. A heat pack does the same job, without risk of further injury.
I've seen sports massage done right AND wrong. The idea its okay for it to be super painful to "increase blood flow" is one of those ridiculous macho ideas that only someone with too much testosterone accepts off hand. Also, pain physically alters the BRAIN, which in turn diminishes healing capability itself.
@DeadlyChinchilla This is sport massages. Tightness in the muscle after a major sporting event, or 10 in this case is going to have an immense amount of inflammation that has to be worked out with a lot of force or with an ice bath...a more relaxing massage will feel good but it ill not work out the tightness and inflammation that is causing the restriction to blood flow
The main issue of worsening an injury is with overstretching of the problem area...force applied towards the heart is healthy
@GeneralQuackers Force "applied towards the heart" has no relation to being magically healtheir to the ACTUAL injury. Like I've said, I've seen sports massage done your way and I've seen it done RIGHT. Manual force does not benefit a state of inflammation & often even does microdamage to already damaged tissue. Your idea that "more force = good" as a curative is like saying garlic keeps away vampires.
Pain is not a requirement of sports massage. Only the impatient "force" an injury.
He had big knots in his calf, of course it would hurt, secondly he was doing it right and third he did warm them up if you watch it again you'll see also having the leg in that position can help push old juices towards the lymph nodes in the back of the knees, and how does laying it flat help? on a sofa like that he needs the leverage to help him grasp the calf firmly, there was hardly any space to do that anyway.
@DeadlyChinchilla I dont know what expect massage school you came from but pain does not mean your doing it wrong dumbass, ever heard of trigger points? I dont know about you but when i get my knots released they need to apply a decent amount of preasure making it semi painful. and the video starts when hes already massaging, we didnt get to see if he warmed up the leg or not. you just jumped to assumption trying to sound smart. so check your facts before you talk shit
@BOI8249 it felt sore in the morning, but i still managed to play the next 4 soccer games over a 2 day period. I played 10 games in 5 days... you can imagine how sore you'd be !

@DeadlyChinchilla
sports massage is different from regular massage
sports massage can be very painful if you are having and stretched or pulled muscle worked on.
it ultimately reduces the time it takes to recover from the injury by increasing blood flow to the area
for rapid healing.

Word of advice.
Next time, have the leg lay flat so the bone doesn't bend with every stroke.
