The United States Championship in the WWE is not that prestige as it was when Eddie Guerrero (RIP), Chris Benoit (RIP), Booker T, Shelton Benjamin, MVP, Big Show, Bobby Lashley, Edge, and Kurt Angle held. Now its more of a joke now.
luger, for having such a stunning physique, was at his hottest, when absorbing punishment, which he always sold beautifully. i always thought he loved being worked.
i would've seeing Barry Windham from '92/'93 vs Bret Hart '92. I think that's one match that could've been something special given the right amount of time.
I don't mean to sound gay or anything because I am the farthest thing from gay. But Barry Windham's wrestling trunks are a size too small and it's disgusting to look at.
I always hated that old ending for matches with the suplexed person getting their shoulder up, while the other wrestler gets counted down for the pin.
it was reported that one of windham's problems with wwe was his refusal to be turned into a cartoon or comic book character. he was a remarkably talented wrestler and showman.
He held it from February 93 until July 93 when he lost to Flair @ Beach Blast 93.It's funny, former members of the Horseman would become World Champions: Luger(2times)Windham(1 time-IMO it should've been more than that) & Sting(multi-times) & Sid Vicious
What a load! Luger was always overpushed in the NWA/WCW and got too many titles handed to him that he didn't really have the talent for. The only person who got more undeserved push than Luger was The Ultimate Warrior.
@DocLeggz Yes he did. He finally got his due when he won the NWA World championship from the Great Muta in 1993.I think he held the title for about 4 months.
@81carlos I know, and that's nice and all, but, I really always felt that Barry Windham deserved more than one world title. I mean, Luger got 3 I think, maybe 4, and he wasn't half the wrestler Windham was. But, that's just my opinion. I also thought Muta deserved more push here in the US.
I have only watched it once but it looked like Windham's shoulder came up before the 3 count. Doesn't matter of course as Lex was the one that was chosen to go over.
Windham was awesome in WCW, I felt bad for him when he went to WWF(E) on his 2nd tour. They should've push him like The Hitman, HBK, and other best technical wrestlers.
Windham really could sell; I thought his hand really was broken when I saw this as a kid in '89! If the WCW booking team had a clue, they would've turned Windham face after this; his selling of his hand should've made him a sympathetic character.
luger sucked. thats y he couldnt have long title reigns because he wasnt a crowd drawer. He was a boring world champion. He should have gone to bodybuilding. Windham was an awesome athlete.
If memory serves me correctly after he won the title in this match He held the title until he beat Barry Windham again at The Great American Bash 91 because he couldnt hold both the US and World title
actually after Luger won it from Windham he lost it to Michael PS Hayes a few months later at Wrestle War 89. Luger won it back from Hayes after about 2-3 weeks. Luger then held the title for well over a year before losing it to Stan Hansen at Halloween Havoc 90. He won it back at Starrcade 90 and held it till he beat Windham at Bash 91 for the World title.
I was in the crowd for this PPV as a snot nosed 13 year old and there was a huge pop when Luger won. Luger ended up turning heel and had a great run as US Champion.
2:05-Windham hits Lugar with an invisible right hand air punch. Lugar hits the canvas. Must have been similar to getting hit with a compressed iar hose; You can't see it, but it knocks you down. LOL
I can't believe Windham is not in the WWE hall of fame. Windham was a great in ring wrestler, pretty good on the mic, and has defeated some of the greatest wrestlers to ever grace this earth. How in the world can the Junk Yard Dog make it and Windham doesn't? Someone needs to tell Vince what this man has accomplished in his career.
I saw Windham as a green rookie in 1980 and with each passing year he got better and better. In the mid 80's he was as good of a worker as anyone in the U.S. I wish he would have had a run with the NWA World Title when the belt still meant something.
I own and treasure much of Barry's earliest matches from Florida including a 60 minute draw with Ric Flair bedfore Whindam ever wrestled for Jim Crockett. He was the most naturally talended athlete I have ever seen. His matches with Flair from the mid eighties were the best
@dominater72 OMG don't get me started on the men who do NOT, in any way shape or form deserve to be in the WWE HOF! JYD was a cool dude but DID NOTHING to enhance any matches he was in, come to think about it, did he ever win a WM match? The list goes on and on. But men like Barry, Arn, Tully, Savage, etc are either blacklisted or not offered. Tragic
this was a great PPV. Windham was way better than Lex overall. Lex was stiff in the ring and I cant beleive they let him hold the belt in 97. Barry deserved the belt way more than Luger. Barry was the better worker and wrestler
if wwf had kept lex luger as the narcissist he wudve been one of the biggest heels in wwf history he just didnt suit that stupid all american gimmick he suited being a heel he always has
That was a pretty weak finish for that match. I like the end with Luger getting the shoulder up and Windham getting pinned as a result, but I disliked the attack after the bell and I think Luger should have gained some offense prior to the German suplex pin attempt.
Screw all you Luger haters out there. He had a way better career than windham. Nothing against Barry, I liked him too, just get sick of all the hatred for Luger. He did dissapoint in WWE but was great in the old NWA and was good again in WCW from 96-98.
At the Chi-Town Rumble pay-per-view in February 1989, Lex Luger regained the United States Championship by defeating Barry Windham. It marked Luger's second reign as U.S. Champion. His reign ended when Michael Hayes defeated him at the Music City Showdown pay-per-view event in May 1989.

Barry Windhom carried that match all the way agenst that stupid mussle head Lex lugger. Lex is like Chris Masters . A big mussle head with no talent what so ever . Barry was robed. He did all of the work in that match and lex only threw a few punches ,kicks a suplex or 2 and a grilla press. that all . Barry should of won that match. HE WAS ROBED!!!
You're a stupid jackass. As I've stated on several other videos, WINDHAM WAS SEVERELY OVERRATED! I've watched several of "the best worker of the 1980s" matches and was bored to tears, at least at his portion. With Lugar, I actually enjoyed (and watched) the in ring action. I don't understand this silly, false obsession with Windham. He really wasn't shit and hell, he SUCKED on the mic as well. As I'm watching this match, ALL I SEE WINDHAM DOING IS JUST PUNCHING AND KICKING (much like HHH)
i know the superplex was one of windhams signature moves , but was that his finisher? or was it the lariat? i wasn't a wcw fan back then. I was a wwf guy, the widow maker barry windham

Hell yeah. Windham may have been GOOD, but far far far far far from great. Guys like Savage, Jake Roberts, Flair (in SOME senses), Hennig, Steamboat..that's greatness. As much as people go on about Windham, it's hard for me to even see the basic reasoning behind his supposed greatness, other than pure pity for him and just past fans of his who are angry that he didn't get the pushes others received (although he DID get pushes in WCW and some in NWA too, and MISERABLY FAILED each time). He sucks!
Windham was awesome in '89. If anyone deserved to be next in line as the top heel to replace flair it was him. He just brought a lot of realism to his matches... subtle nuances in the way he sold a move... Luger was a stiff with mediocre talent/charisma/mic skills.
I totally agree with you. Windham could run circles around someone like Luger. I saw Windham break into the sport back in 1980 in Florida and he was very green. But, every year he got better and better.
