I saw him in 1968 at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. I was never the same. This is beyond "culture". Culture? No, a religion. I got a religion in that big joint. I think this might be joint he played at in those days, on Harrison and Kedzie, Chicago. I lived south of there. When he played he brought something else. You understood something about life. It was a school. A Saturday night Bible school with a pint of Wild Irish Rose and some downers and good smoke. It was what it was.
@somethinfishy11 Never even heard of Cadillac Records. Murderous is a phrase that means reckless where I come from. He was that. Dont be so literate professor fishy.
When the music starts and he starts looking around and into the camera it feels like he's into my and everyone else soul getting ready to steel it. It's so spooky but yet so awesome how you can feel the energy from his song.
This song reminds me of the time I came home early and walked through the door, and she told me he was just a nudist who came into use the phone. I said buuuuuuuuuullll shit!
@zar1117 Its a RE-10. Its a little longer than a 660 and VERY different shape than the 664. I have them all. So its a RE-10. And also its very good to get that bassy horn-like sound. But Wolf had that with every mic I heard him play on via youtube and CD. I have them and dont really need 'em anymore, they're up for sale :) Peace!

Thanks Youtube, because of youtube I got turned back on to Howling Wolf. I totally forgot about him, thanks for the reintroduction, 40 years later. HW and Muddy Waters...oh yeah, can't beat it.
Is this version to be found anywhere else? I mean, on a bootleg or in any movie about Howlin' Wolf? I absolutely love this, it is way better than Evil from Moanin' in the Midnight, let alone the electric version.
This was one of the most important musicians of all time. Most people today simply don't understand or appreciate that these are the origins of most contemporary western music. And the wisdom of a street sage who has lived the hard life which he sings about. This is truth in art. Listen up young people.
This man was a true blues master. Nobody like him after he died. No wonder Eric Clapton paid for the man's tombstone. The man inspired the generation of musicians after him.
Wolf was the OG,THEE man. And if you played with him and didn't do it right,he'd beat your ass. On the for real side. In the old days in Chicago,if you wanted a gig at a club, you and your band would wait for the end of the night and fight it out.Whoever won got the gig. Little Walter was a great harp player and a better fighter. He got alot of gigs that way and unfortunatley ended up getting stabbed to death. Don't know if it was over a gig,but he died fighting
Thanks for posting this. I listen to all kinds of stuff and I certainly bought a lot of Blues records over the years, but I think Howlin' Wolf was something else; you can tell he was a Charley Patton student, he was so raw and unpolished, I always liked him better than Muddy Waters, although the latter has always been more famous. I love to watch this, after listening to his records for decades without ever seeing any Howlin' Wolf footage. You've done a great job, thank you so much
yeah he is DEFINITELY one of those country blues fans cuz Smokestack Lightnin' is basicaly "Stop and Listen Blues" by The Mississippi Sheiks and then songs such as spoonful and little red rooster just hint at charley patton's spectacular style.
To call Buddy Guy gay just shows how stupid you are. Buddy hung out with Wolf and Muddy waters. He is one of the few left that can really be called a true Chicago Blues man. I happen to know Wolfs godson and he speaks very highly of Buddy.
