Band of brothers was brutal,and im nt just sayin that because it is. it really challenges human emotion just to go thru each and every part of it. the POW camp scene in part 9 of BOB is just so inhuman. i literally cried and tears were flowing and i just dunno why. it's amazing to say the least. really looking forwrd to this and just hope that steven spielberg will just keep doin war movies becasue he's doin such fine job with it :D

I think HBO should make a drama series about the Eastern Front.

It could tell the story from the perspective of a group of German Waffen SS soldiers and a group of Soviet Red Army soldiers - two equally remorselessly evil totalitarian regimes and why ordinary men fought with such fanaticism to the very end on behalf of Nazism and Communism.

That for me is the REAL story of WW2.

There was no happy ending to the war because for most of the world either way evil still won the day.

would probably be a better project for German TV or Russian Film. A bunch of Americans or Brit's in Feldgrau, delivering their lines with accents wouldn't work as well as if their home nations created their own vision of the Russian Front...if you've seen the German film Stalingrad you'd probably get a sense of what I'm getting at, or Downfall, the film Cross of Iron (english spoken) had some very interesting parts to it but in my opinion would have been better as a German production.

European theater is much more interesting. Im not the only one who thinks that. Even when video games like MOH turned to the Pacific, sales fell. It was the worst selling installment of the series. I guess there is just something more 'romantic' about snow, European cities /churches, and killing Germans.

I never understood why people think the European theater was more interesting. It seemed like an easier victory. The Germans were tough, yes, but they were being choked from the USSR to the east and the US/British to the west. It was inevitable.

The Pacific War on the other hand had the great naval battles, plus the island battles, and the massive bombing raids on Japan.

God bless the U.S. Marines!!! I wonder how the old Army vets that served in the Pacific will feel about being left out. They spilled their blood all over the Pacific also. The Marines played the most prominent role but the Army should not be over looked. Perhaps Hanks and Spielberg will tell the story from the view of the common "Dog Face."

With the Old Breed by E.B. Sledge is a Harrowing gritty narrative of Marine infantry combat in the Pacific. Can't wait for March. I'm torn though. I'm a former Marine grunt whose father was tank crewman in Europe during World War II. His unit suffered a 50% casualty rate. He fought in Patton's 3rd Army. He fought against alot of the Germans' best troops, especialy the Waffen SS. My ROTC instructors in highschool were WW2 vets from both the ETO and the Pacific.

Most people seem to think that the army did not fight in the pacific theatre. Macarthur commanded the phillipines AO and if I remember correctly Macarthur was not a marine. That was no small AO either. The Army played a significant part in the Pacific.

and who told you that? 3 of my grandfathers served in world war 2.. one in germany one in italy and one in japan...the japanese were very fierce fighters but the germans were also.. a lot of US soldiers were killed and tortured on both sides.. what made the japanese war so difficult was the terrain and small islands... what made the german war so difficult was modern house to house warfare, hedgrows and harsh winters.. not to mention mustard gas..so i disagree with your statement

Sure in the Pacific we dealt with the most powerful force of unconventional warfare tactics than in any other wars we've fought, but until you've studied Hurtgen Forest you can't truly say either one is more viscious or worse.

This Mini-Series could quite possibly change our minds of what we think of the Pacific Theater during our Second World War. My Grandpa served in the Navy, and fought at Okinawa. I never understood why he never talked about it, but the mental stability of one man during war is thin, and certain things can scar you for life. I thank everyone serving right now over in Iraq and it's an honor to be under their protection, even from back then.

GREAT! I finally learned who this film will be about. E.B. Sledge wrote "With the Old Breed", his story of his experiences in WW2. John Basilone, Medal of Honor on Guadalcanal, died on Iwo Jima. The other guy wrote several books too. The great thing about Band of Brothers miniseries was its ring of truth as it followed the book. I was wondering how the new miniseries was going to weave the story together. Now I know, sounds great too!
