  • Where did you learn to do things like this? I really wanna learn how to make props, masks, etc, but I have no idea where to go to learn, except YouTube, hurr.

  • @DDofCourage Youtube is a unique development. This medium has allowed much more information to spread than ever before. I learned most of my mold making through trial and error and by working for an art bronze foundry.

  • @brickintheyard I guess I should just jump right in then, huh? Thank you so much for making this YouTube channel, btw, I've spent the last two days watching pretty much all your videos, they're so informative and fun to watch.

  • @DDofCourage Thanks! The info here + practical trial and error will give you a great start. Just be prepared for some "DOH!" moments as you progress.

  • Hey, quick question.

If I were to make a cast of those pre casted life-casts made of concrete, what would I use? Thanks.

  • @TwoDudeReviews If you are making a mold of concrete, you will need to seal the surface with vaseline before pouring or brushing on silicone.

  • @brickintheyard Ok, cool. So that won't take any detail out of the final mold, right?

  • @TwoDudeReviews Depends on how well you do it.

  • @brickintheyard Ok, so do just a very thin layer of vaseline first, then the silicone. Thanks a bunch! Probably be buying from you soon!

  • How do you clean your brush?

  • @filisp Um.... don't let the brushes hear this, but the brushes go to "brush heaven" after each coat. Cured silicone or urethane is impossible to clean out. That's why we sell cheap brushes by the box.

  • How well does 71-20 respond to degassing or pressure casting? I know it's not completely necessary, but I'm curious.

  • @KewneRain It degasses easily. I have not had to pressure cast it.

  • I have a quick question....I've ordered Plastil 71-20 to make a mold of my sculpture. I have a quick question, do you know if it will work well on overhead surfaces, like upside down surfaces? My sculpt is a half overhead piece and I'm getting concerned. Any help you can offer would be great!

  • @shannon82us Add TinThix thickener if you need it to stay put on a vertical (or upside-down)surface

  • @brickintheyard Can I get away with using lots of Platthix? I didn't order the TinThix, but I can if necessary. And thank you so much for your quick reply! I sent you a message too, but just ignore it! LOL!

  • @shannon82us Yes, you can just use more Platthix.

  • thank you very much for taking the time to share.

  • How much time did you guys wait in between each layer?

  • Depending on temp. 45 min. to 1 hr.

  • you should change your username to God of Special FX man.. you are AMAZING!

  • that's a lot a frickin mold!

That looks like a simple project would cost a fortune in molding.

  • If you are making the mold for 1 piece, yes, it's expensive. These are production molds, and after so many products are sold out of it, the price becomes not so ridiculous.

  • Great Job...I am learning alot from these vids and i look forward to any other vid your guys decide to put out.
