I was considering purchasing a Parrotlet for my girlfriend, are they very loud? Also, do you or anyone else know if they are friendly with other birds; we have a Senagal also.
@alverdeja Hi, Parrotlets can be very loud but not too much louder than say a love bird. We have a cockatiel too but they do not get along very well. Check out @jxh0703 videos to see parrotlets getting along with other birds. She has a little blue parrotlet who seems to be best friends with her conure. For specific parrotlet questions, try the talkparrotlets forum. There are a lot of really nice folks on there who can give more advice than I can. Cheers!
@iorost HI, it will take a lot of time and patience to tame him. Try asking this on a forum where you will get lots more advice. Check out TalkParrotlets forum on the web.
Bean is the best Santa in the world! You can see it in his eyes he hates that hat. He also likes to talk on his toy huh? & TALK A LOT! Where'd u get that toy! My Ernie would love something like that... close to where all the food's being made & he gets to sample everything. That's why we call him "Fat boy" cause he'll eat EVERYTHING if you let him.
I just love Bean. It looks like he loves his new toys. Re the Santa hat, I'm sure he didn't like that, but you captured a marvelous picture of him in it. Hope you did it quickly and that no parrotlets were harmed in the making of the Santa shot. :o) Hope you and your family and animals have a wonderful 2010.
Merry Bean-mas! Bean. Marry me! Camilla (our baby's name) was the receiver of the gifts this year & we decided to make Ernie & Zoey their presents, but we haven't had time. Boombella Happy holidays to yours!
Yeah, it's funny. I wanted him to learn something more interesting for his first words but I'm happy he has figured out the 's'. It's also interesting how he does not do the wing thing with 'step up' but he does it with his chicken impersonation.
Thanks Nancy. Bean is a 7 1/2 year old parrotlet. You can search for parrotlets that talk on youtube. Bean is just learning but if you can spend quality, consistent time with them, they can learn quickly. I have recorded my voice and played that for him which seems to help. He also loves to watch the other bird videos. I've searched for life expectancy and it varies depending on where you look. Some say 10-20 some say 15-30 years.
Thanks so much..I was looking on line when you responded. I have a 13 year old budgie now..that I do believe is into his senior years and says just about anything. When he goes on to birdie heaven I think I would like to get one of these little guys like you have...so cute!
Parrotlets have very big personalities and can be loud. People say they are quiet but Bean can go on a shout fest that will make most company leave the room. He usually quiets down if I respond in a soft tone though. I say something like, "you're not a canary, say something cute". He's usually shouting it to get a verbal response from one of us flock members. It helps to speak soft in return. I hope your budgie continues to live an extra long time!
