It's not understanding it that's important! it's rising up and fighting for it that's important...We're human beings GOD DAMNIT! Our lives have value.....Time to stand as one and fight...Our forefathers done it and "WON" we are one huge fist, when it comes to knocking out the powers that (think they be)!
I'm from New Orleans. From a STRICTLY (and I mean strictly) religious point of view. New Orleans has, for its entire existence, been filled with corruption, evil practices, evil ideas, and evil cultures. It can almost be equated to Sodom and Gomorrah, which is now in the bottom of the ocean.
@MichelleAusman Don't worry about offending ME, buddy. You're going to desperately wish God wasn't 'imaginary' in the coming years. Hopefully you'll wake up and realize that He isn't.
i am not even a resident of new orleans but i did get an opportunity to go down there and help people rebuild houses and i felt so much pain for these people. when i came back i watched this document and i was ashamed of my country and that is difficult for me to say since i am very patriotic
I watched this in a elective class at my high school and it really opened my mind up and showed me how messed up America is to just leave those people like that.
Whatever happens, know this: I will ALWAYS be proud to swim home. No oil, no alligators, no looters could stop me from coming back, if you could even get me to evacuate in the first place.
Plain and simple, the people of hurrincan katrina should have been helped. There should have been no reason why they had to wait so long for help. We are always there to help other countries but when it comes to our own, we are put on the back burner. It's crazy how our government works.
The ruling class, and their puppets Bush & Cheney created every bit of this mess. Bush cut funding for 5 straight years to the Corps of Engineers who maintained the N.O. levees. The MONEY was diverted to the war contractors and their phony oil wars. Moreover, Katrina was only a Category 3 storm when it made landfall, something N.O. had experienced many times before. The center of the storm actually hit Mississippi. Further, N.O. was on the WEAK ,west side of the counter-clockwise storm.
amazing doumentary along with the creek dont rise series. i feel so depressed knowing now that i really didnt have a clue about katrina at the time. all i heard was some displacement, flooding and a long recovery. it makes me sick that i was such a sheep :((((
Everyone should rent this fine documentary, it is an important reminder of this tragedy, but also of how far we have NOT come on racism. WHEN in the history of catastrophes did you ever hear officials and others say there simply should NOT be a city there....like LA or San Francisco due to quakes, hurricanes in the southeast... etc.... it was pure Bush/Cheney ineptitude and racism
i remember we were supposed to go to New Orleans for the first time when this happend.
I didnt end up going until 2007 for the Bayou Classic and i was so emotinal walking through the airport n superdome thinkin that ppl died where i was standing waiting for help.
the superdome was still missing small parts of the roof and ten cities were all around the superdome. when we flew over n saw the damage, my heart sank.
what gets me is that when an american city is hit by a disaster it takes five days to respond but when it hits a shit hole of a country like haiti we react as if its the most devistating thing thats ever happend to us i may not be a leader or polotic but i do know that you help your own before you help a stranger
This mess was way beyond Mayor Nagin....those levee systems have been in ruin for years..probably before Mayor Dutch became mayor..the blame is the Levee board and Corp of Engineers..and their years of flushing our money down the drain..who ever heard of paying 2 million dollars for a gold statue to be placed in front of the leveee board police headquarters..come on people wake up!..Their intention was to destroy this city so we wouldn't be able to come back
Since when has a Mayor been in charge of infrastructure? Mayors don't have that kind of power. Boy, the way the press spins it, you'd think Ray Nagin was the most powerful mayor in history.
@jenstark hey maan they needed somone to blame thire screw ups on..everyone knows this was way past his head did they blame the mayor when 9/11 hit...NOT!!!!
I don't think enough people blamed Mayor Ray Naghin for his incompetence. He must have known this was coming; back in 2000, the New York Times Tuesday Science section warned what would happen if a superstorm hit.
It predicted that if the chemical plants ruptured, the flooded area would be so polluted that the city would have to be abandoned for ten years.
@JohnStripedfur No, it was a 5 when it was in the gulf, downgraded to a category 3 when it hit the southeastern Louisiana coast, and what data exists suggests that New Orleans experienced only category 1 or 2 force winds. The bulk of the damage from the hurricane itself was done to the Louisiana and Mississippi coastlines. New Orleans experienced flooding from a federal levee failure. Facts, get some.
what the fuck, yea bush caused a hurricane, no people hurricanes are the weather no one can cause or prevent a hurricane they are an act of nature shit happens its been 4 years drop it
bush knew that katrina was going to hit, HARD. you can't prevent a hurricane but you can warn your people to evacuate or prepare. Michael Brown the head of FEMA was appointed by bush he had no experience in this. in fact he was just an owner of arabian horses. and bush put him as head of something that important. how is it that FEMA was there to aid the tsunami in Indonesia in 24hrs but it took FEMA 5 days.? thats bs.
I swear to GOD!! The ignorant assholes who respond on you tube. No one blamed Bush for hurricane you ignorant fuck! We blame him for being slow to respond to Americans in desperate need after a disaster struck. When white people are in need he responded really quick. And 4 years later, those people still need help, that's why we still talk about it. What a dumb fuck!
when the fuck did new orleans become a state? you must be a black racist. im white and from louisiana. i went through some of the same shit. you dont hear me bitching about the shit in haiti.
and Yes you can pin this problem mostly on Bush on so many levels. The head of FEMA appointed by Bush and not to mention Bush didn't do anything about Global warming which may have caused Katrina and maybe the extremely hot weather they got after Katrina hit.Maybe not. No proof of it but we'll be seeing more horrific Hurricanes in our future, the engineers that partially built the levees, and the neighboring county that wouldn't let anyone into even woman and children. A horrifying week in USA.
There is a religious pat robertson's law school that 150 of Bush appointed jocks went to. The head of Fema was also appointed by Bush (don't know if he went to that law school) and he had no back ground of being a good person for that job. He was just trying to move up in the corporate world. I believe he worked for an oil company before that. I don't understand how these people's faith got stronger in God when it was He who gave them Katrina.I love this 4part movie of Spike Lees he's a good man
And as you all know but are not able to admit!!!!! that levy didn't break!!!!!!It was blown to save the richer neighborhood....COME ON!!! all are greater than one....and WE are "all"...
I grew up in the upper Miss river valley and in 93 we had a huge flood, like 25 million displaced and effected and 4 or 5 states iowa, illionois, wisconsin, minnesota and missouri all with towns and farmland flooded and destroyed, the only difference is that it was poor farmers and not a big city. nobody even remembers that shit. growing up on the river is hard and you can't rely on anyone but the people around you when things go wrong. sad but true.
@doctorj2u because they pretend to care.....when it isnt convienent for the rich to care they wont......the whole country should revolt....but we wont....we are a weak people
@mistresspav I am a white Uptown native of New Orleans, but I agree with you anyway. If you do not have the means to return and rebuild, you are screwed. It is terriblly wrong, esp. knowing what New Orleans means to its natives; white, balck and in between.
@doctorj2u Because America is too big and the interests are marginalized, the government is being run by corporate elites through lobbying and inserting their own people into congress and other government bodies. It's a shame, I hope New Orleans can come together and rebuild itself.
Of all the places I have traveled to, New Orleans is up at the top of my list of favorite places to go to. It's a damn shame that the Bush administration basically left those people to die and didn't lift a finger to help. It's disheartning to see them lose everything they have and a man who was supposed to lead this country, somebody that we were supposed depend on, couldnt've cared less. George Bush can go fuck himself as far as I'm concerned, I'm glad he's finally out of office.
ummmmm......i live in LA and it was Blanco. so before we get enveloped with Bush bashing, let's blame the person who is first to blame then blame the Fed.
I can believe that there is something sinister about America, it is a land that eats the people who live here. Why? It's like we are all here to be tortured and then to die - everyone not just one group; everyone including the Indians suffer on this land.
