I know everyone wants to beat these animals but let's be real any big cat will rip your face off I've heard when they attack with its paw the force can be up to10 000pounds.
When cookie wanted to be petted that is the social conditioning of being around humans her entire life. When she growled as a person approaches her food, that is her own biology at work.
Question: regarding Alex's behavior of jumping on (actually: attacking) someone each time they turn their back on him - I actually know it is something that Tigers are "supposed" to do. Apparently, turning your back and moving away from the tiger basically makes her recognize you as a prey - triggering predatory behavior. I am surprised to hear that you perceive this behavior as "unusual". Why do you think this is not happening with the other tigers you have in your sanctuary?
@br1p87 You're right given this opportunity many of our tigers may do something similar, yet Alex was doing this all the time and it's not a good behavior to have, so like Scott said we didn't encourage this like his previous friends in Mississippi. H as calmed down alot now :)
I think you guys are doing a great job but the only thing I didn't agree with was at the end of the video when you mentioned that Cookie gets aggressive when it comes to food. ANY animal gets aggressive during meal time -- even your pet dog would. That doesn't mean they're ready to kill people. Check out Christian the lion, you'll be surprised.
Thanks :) True with many animals when it comes to food they're aggressive, but we KNOW these cats are always capable of attacking and killing if they feel like it! Christian the lion is exemption to the rule. His owners knew it was ready to move him on because he was getting too rough and they were just lucky he wasn't aggressive when they encountered him later on.
First off i think its great and a blessing what u guys do for these big cats and i just want to say thank you cuz i'm an extreme tiger fan among others. But hey i got a question for you guys. Shere kahn is he still 750 lbs. like u said he was in that one video? Or has he gotten any bigger or has he lost weight.
that is the scariest thing iv ever seen. havin a tiger jump for u when u turn ur back on him!! what the hell did they teach them? something not nice anyway
You guys are a God Send to the these amazing animals. People need to figure out that these wild cats don't make good pets and more importantly how expensive it is to care for them properly. As well the tourist traps that make the animal photo ops w/ cubs should be outlawed. You don't even have to have a license to own a Tiger in my state. That's insanity...
Josephs Pride (2 lions & 2 tigers) live together as do Cameron (male lion) and Zabu (female white tiger) and shere kahn and china doll (tigers) If they lived together where we rescued them form we try and keep them together unless it's obvious they would rather have their own enclosure and be happier that way.
We really shouldn't be suprised by the way alex reacts towards human.
I think alex is just being a typical tiger, that's all. All tigers are supposed to be aggressive, wild, and dangerous. And they are incredibly CUTE too. Big kitty cat.
Hi! Not really these cats will never be released back into the wild, these are big dangerous cats and feeding time is very serious, we want to get the food in there as quickly and safely as possible make sure we get a good look at them while they are eating then leave them alone. Keep watching in Argentina!
Oh! When I'm with friends I never hug them surprisingly or force them to do anything. I normally ask what they want to do or open my arms for a hug, because I want to be nice with them. I won't rush it unless we're really good friends that knows each other very well and accept each other. And humans are dangerous like the cats too! Big cats is, as I see it now, like a human relationship, not a pet! What you said in these videos made me see that. Thanks! I'll remember this from now on :)
Hi! When Cookie, or any of the other tigers at BCR spray on you, are they trying to mark you as their property? It does seem that they deliberately aim at you! LOL!!
It's $25 for a regular day tour, $50 for the feeding tour and $100 for the keeper tour, check out our website BigCatRescue*org for times and more info, hope you make it!
Tigers are born predators. This just shows how agressive and dangerous a tiger can be. If only they don't eat human and domestic pets, i really like to spend a day in closure studying them.
We really shouldn't be suprised by the way Alex reacts toward human. I think Alex is just being a typical tiger that's all. Wild tigers are supposed to be aggressive, wild and dangerious. And they are insanely CUTE too. Big kitty cat. ^_^
This is true tigers can be wild, dangerous and aggressive whenever they want to be! Yet his behavior like Scott said in the video was formed because of the reaction people gave him when he did it. He as made a lot of improvement since this video was shot which is safer for the people who work around him :)
I agree it doesn't seem cute to me when he does it, but he is getting better now and realises he doesn't have to jump up to get attention at Big Cat Rescue!
There is so much education in such a short video. Thanks for the great care and setting the example of how exotic animals should be properly cared for if they are living in captivity.
We have food aggressive cats at the humane society that i volunteer at, and those small cats are dangerous if your not paying attention. So a food aggressive tiger would be a nightmare!
Thank you, it's hard not to enjoy working with big cats everyday! Tigers just spray to mark their territory and if you're in the way they don't care, as for just eating chicken for a big cat diet, you're right protein is protein but in the wild they would be eating a wide variety of prey and get different benefits from each. Scott was talking about the "mush" which is a ground meat made from the organs etc.. of animals with nutrients and vitamins, in the wild cats will eat whole prey.
Plus, they'd probably get bored eating nothing but chicken as they had to at that awful "sanctuary" they came from. Although, when we visited and Shere Khan's back was turned at the water trough, China Doll snagged his chicken quarter!
I realize that all wild cats are dangerous but in your experience is one cat species more dangerous than another? I realize that these cats all have unique personalitys both good & bad but as a norm do you have to be more cautious with one breed versus another such as cougars versus a lions or Jaguars versus tigers?
I'd probably go with leopards being the most difficult to work with, they are big, but not massive like tigers and lions and they are very smart and quick which is very dangerous if the cat doesn't like you. Lions can be awkward as they are very protective of their territory and any cats they share their enclosure with.
Beautiful cats! So grateful to BCR for having rescued Alex and Cookie (and all the other cats), and for educating the public to the truth about them, which can only help them.
