Well spirit comes alot in your form , Being a spiritulist in England we admire and respect your love of the oness of all things , we are teaching it here x Also were do go to the reservation souix for training ,,,, Pass on message and know you are right with your teachings
I just can't get into rap. And it's not because it's a Black thing. It's just too...I don't know. Lakota kids, sing YOUR people's style and have people want to sing like you. I'll listen to Lakota music all day long before I'll listen to rap. Lakota music makes you want to sing, dance, or be with someone you like/love. I've never heard people say that about rap. Be PROUD of who you are!
You don't have to fell ashamed. I can feel very bad and ashamed that I have blue eyes and white skin color becouse of what white people done to your people! Although I always find your people and nation adorable. I cry every time I see films or historical stories about how your nation were treated! I'm a teacher from Latvia and I tell to our children about your great nation and how I would be proud to call myself - american native!!! You have so much to be proud of!!!!
Just put it in a song; put it into music. That will make the hearts soar and give reason for being. Works everytime... Just do it! Good job, young peoples!
Thank you to our children, what will we have them carry into the future? Grandfather, may they be blessed with a mind that is strong and bound to the heart. We have a cultural memory, may we finda way to forgiveness, allow us to have a memory while knowing we are not merely survivors, we are alive. It saddens me to think of the many who died that I might be here today. Today, I will honor their memory and be happy I am alive.
This video shocks me. I am "white", and growing up I always enjoyed native culture, I even got my parents to buy me an "authentic" drum from a New Mexico reservation which I would bang on all the time and try to sing "war songs". My point is that I sort of grew up revering the native tradition and what it seemed to stood for to me, and this video saddens me deeply.
i'm not pure native. my bloodline has been thinned. The future is coming weather we want it or not. The blending of peoples is inevitable. In the end we all influence each other. The important thing is to not lose ourselves in the process. We should use our own music our own words and our own values. Rap is form of music. If it's good music or bad is up to the performer. Unfortunately there's not much good rap music. May the youths of the REAL Americas help to change that!
AYE!!!!! thank you for posting this, where can I find those boys' music around 3mins? my people are from Pine Ridge, but I'm urban, still holding on to my akicita roots!!! much love & respect kolas!!
Please also tell them they should use their words rather than White's Rock as well. Funny how us NA's try to pin the awful stuff on the Blacks only. Ridiculous. No, there's nothing to be ashamed of but we don't elevate ourselves by denegrating another.
Ok,i dont care for rap at all,but my son does and so does alot of younger crowds, this is positive rap,so its good rap,but gangster rap is crap to me,and i do love the more traditional better, much better,it speaks to my heart, faster and iam Native and black, but i guess whatever works is good as long as its heard in a positive way.
Your children should be PROUD they are the descendants of wonderful people, with a culture that is envious. The only way to rebuild is have more children and slowly build up the power with more native Americans. Yes change is inevitable but you must take back what was yours in the first place. If the African Americans can do it, so can your children. Let the whole world know with more music and tour, tour, tour and educate the world of what you offer.
Yatahey Kola, Do what ever your heart tells you to do to save the people, rebuild the community, and to continue the ceremonies. the old ones served the community before them selves. as long as you fallow the good road you'll be ok.
Thank you for your work, thank you for the vid! People are catching on mostly because of those like you! Please continue to share truth! May the Great Spirit bless you!

Are you summoning the Africans to take you over? If that's the case...its working!
@SupraSovereign There is nothing wrong to cherish heritage! I love Native American culture, sorry that we don't know more about it. I am also very sorry that these people are having a hard finding their way in the reservation!
I find the young man recording a rap song, well, disturbing! Native American music is so beautiful, its a shame that he is trying to be something what he is not. But again, he is young, and can express himself the way he wants it....
blacks and natives find themselves walking a similar path. blacks have given us the gift of rap and it is no longer just a black cultural thing, it resonates with the world and is found everywhere, just like rock and roll and classical. Make it your own, create, add your soul into it and your culture. make beauty.

the ways of the ancient Indian are the ways of the Great Spirit.

I can't believe I heard in this video their are Native Americans ashamed of being native american shyt am African American and you know how many people I've been around that (CLAIM) to be part Native. And I just need state the rapping going on at 3:08 is tight. I would destory that dude in a freestyle battle tho lol.
I don't care for rap music myself. But it is the music of the younger generation. If these kids can get their message out by using it then so be it. I don't know the answer but we must never give up, never ever give up. We can not go back to the old ways. We must remember what happened and move forward and do what is right for all people.
Native Americans are a beautiful people. I wish you would drop the rap and modernize your old music.....be who you are, not an imitation of some other ethnicity. Be proud of your heritage. :)
Who are you to tell an Indian person who he is? Indians have been told too long who they are by people who do not understand. There is a balance that must be met -- our culture must not be lost but we also can adapt, in fact we must adapt. All cultures have something to teach. Say thank you for these kids being reached and hope that the Great Spirit works within them.
First of all I didn't mean any offense by my comment at all. Rap music is from a different culture all together, is that who you are? Of course all cultures have something to offer and everyone adapts to their surroundings or perishes. I am glad that kids are being reached with music, my son is a muscian and music brings out the best in everyone. My suggestion was to modernize the Native American music that is so beautiful and if that gives offense then so be it.
@joeocho88 Traditional Lakota songs are great - but for me, I believe in these kids doing whatever inspires them... whatever keeps them positive and moving forward. If they can express how they're feeling in rap songs, more power to them. That doesn't mean they will abandon the old Lakota songs, just that they are expanding how they communicate to other Lakota and to the world. Keep pushing forward, young people. Kids learn by watching their parents. Parents need to try to do their best to create a loving atmosphere--and make the kids feel impt. Parents need to organize things for the kids to do. I am white, but when young, was very poor, but we never had 'nothing' to do because my mom organized things that didn't take much money. Like READ...read to your kids, have them read, paint or color--do anything creative you can think of. And let them know an education is EXPECTED, not 'suggested'.
