  • does he tone down his accent in england?

  • It is pretty awkward to spell Euros, because people tend to think that a man's name is in fact the currency for many a European country...

  • Comment removed

  • Free Wales Army, I think it needs to start up again! any takers??

  • @GotForGimmick Er, I think you'll find the English have Celtic ancestry too - check out the Cornish language you petty little bigot.

  • much love for the brydon ;)

  • Ha!

  • great bit of satire from rob...

  • Funny how English is the only language spoken when you claim in your hometown, or come to ENGLAND and collect the dole....that isn't a narrow minded comment...more of a statement...

  • The Romans thought the language of the Ancient Britons (Welsh) was similar to that of the Gaul's which was spoken across Europe from the channel across all of France, Switzerland ,Austria, to as far east as Hungry and from the Mediterranean as far north as Germany.

  • brilliant.

  • rob brydon. professional welshman. wtf does he know? why does he think he's welsh? offensive isn t the word, ignorant would be closer. ha ha ha somebody speaks a different language. ha ha ha ha! brillkant!

  • I'm Saxon but I think Welsh is an amazing language. Have just started learning it, and plan to use it when I go to Wales for my holiday in August.

If you want to speak Welsh take a trip to a website called SaySomethinginWelshDOTcom. It's brilliant.

  • through all our differences we can still successfully hate the french

  • The Welsh language and the Royal family serve no purpose other than to be living history. Society in the UK would continue to function with no real change if both ceased to exist tomorrow.

  • @rah243 a bit like the English language in many parts of England ;)

  • @rah243 Royal family - correct. Welsh language - you are so wrong. What about societies held through the medium of Welsh? What about my childhood up to when I was about 11? (I only spoke Welsh until then when I moved to a bilingual secondary school) My life would be destroyed if the Welsh language was to be taken from me. It is part of who I am.

  • @comenowmrbond that attempt at welsh was quite comical my friend il give you that, may have chuckeled slightly Reading it so thanks for that.

  • @tontyb14

don't have a go at his attempt at welsh - that's rascism....

But the english do make me laugh at times, thinking that they are The Man around here in the UK. Isn't it?

  • is it just me, or does he seem to speak with a broader accent when he performs in wales?

  • @mmyyppaarrttyy I think his first language is Welsh, I'm not sure, but since he is Welsh he would feel more comfortable around the Welsh so that is why he isn't afraid to let his accent come out I guess

  • Dolgellau is the centre of the world, I have been told - well, Wales at least.

  • He is an expert with the crowd, fair play.

  • Funny yes but there is a point. Rob Brydon didn't mention the fact that public notices and signs in Wales are written in both English and Welsh which, as far as Welsh is concerned, is waste of paper and paint.

  • @SurfariSam

Hey, loads of Welsh people fought for ages for Welsh signs. It was before my time but it's important because everyone I know speaks Welsh so it's very handy having signs in the language that we speak.

  • @sgrib03 The point I was making is that only a minority of the population of Wales can speak Welsh and even fewer understand written Welsh. So why did loads of Welsh people fight for ages to have signs written in a language that they couldn't understand?

  • @SurfariSam because it was part of their heritage and they wanted to keep it.

  • @phantomsuccour I will admit that the Scots made a fair shot at keeping their independance but not the Welsh. Ever since Edward 1st had Llywelyn ap Gruffydd's head put on a stake the Welsh have been under English domination. That's why only a small percentage of the Welsh either speak or understand the written language. Let's face it, even now they've got an English born Prince of Wales.

  • @SurfariSam but more of us speak welsh than irish spk irish :P. and isnt scottish like dead?,rydw i'n sirad cymraeg ac ma rhaid i mi ddeud met. gei di fynd i chwara fo dy benol :D

  • @robpugh1 Why have you replied to me in gibberish?

  • @robpugh1 Scots is a Germanic language and still exists in its many forms but as it is so closely related to high English its not hugely easy to separate from English. Scottish Gaelic is still spoken by around 50,000 people and is still the main language in places like the Western Isles.

  • @DukeofWellington91 I thought it was originally from further north in europre than what's now Germany. For a start, where were the Picts from? Then didn't the Scandanavians plunder a bit, before the "modern"Germans got there? Truly interested.

  • @SurfariSam When England took over Wales round about in the 1500, Welsh was banned from Politics, Work Place and Education. Welsh wasn't taught in school until 1960s. I always found it very impressive that a language can survive 500 years just by mouth to mouth, rather than educated. We don't want Welsh to be more popular than English, or for England to speak Welsh. We just want Welsh to be spoken more in Wales. But it seems England is threaten by this and always make ways for it not to happen.

  • I was born in Cardiff and attended Bryn Taff School until i moved to North wales.

I now live in Llandudno and its such an English town that i have little or no opportunity to speak the language.

  • @llandudnoboy

    llandudno ftw!

  • @llandudnoboy Llandudno? Whenever I go there, everyone speaks Welsh XD

  • @Kagaminshi

I am quite surprised because here in Llandudno hearing the Welsh language is quite rare.

Go towards Bangor and Caernarvon and 80% of the people there are fluent first language Welsh.

Its similar in certain parts of West Wales Swansea in particular.

Cardiff being the capital city is like any other a mixture of many differing languages and i lived there for 31 yrs and you do not often hear the Welsh language spoken there.

  • @llandudnoboy

80% in Caernarfon? Okay, Bangor I'd understand but Carenarfon? No way, I'd say about 95% of the people who live there are definitely fluent first language in Welsh, I have LOADS of friends there. I don't know about the South though, never been there.

  • @Kagaminshi

    You would be quite surprised.

In the last census Caernarvon and Penrhydaedraeth were the areas in Wales where Welsh was the mother tounge of the majority of its population especially so in Penrhyn but Caernarvon still has a small nucleus of English residents but i agree in hindsight Welsh is the majority language spoken in this small area of North West Wales.

  • @llandudnoboy Pffft, every town has a few Englishmen nowadays XD I'd say pretty much everywhere in North Wales speak fluent Welsh. Where I'm from (Pen Llyn) DEFINITELY everyone speaks fluent Welsh and its our first language :3

  • @Kagaminshi the two cities, swansea and cardiff, dont catch on, im from the brecon area, ammanford. and i'd say alot of poeple to, pembrokeshire don though, they all have english accents..

  • @ohohjackarmy I'm not from the South, I already said that,

  • ..not a fan.

i'm from cardiff.. yet speak fluent welsh. do i qualify now? lol!

  • Both my parents are welsh but I never learnt Cymraeg, I'm ashamed of myself.

  • @G1NZOU Never too late!

  • @G1NZOU It's not your fault, though. Languages must be passed down, not learned.

  • @rtghffdfdg Agreed, I'll just nag them till they teach me properly. ^^

  • @G1NZOU Dyna'r ysbryd! (That's the spirit!) :D

  • pili pallas panad

thats all i know x) butterfly tea

  • im from llandudno

  • welsh is welsh ..... lets not devide it north and south !

  • People from Dolgellau are the crachach of welsh speakers, with ones from Machynlleth down the road. Machynlleth used to be the capital of Wales, don't you know.

  • rwy'n caru cymraeg am byth ac rob brydon ;)

  • i love rob brydon he's a classic!!

  • Well, well, well, this video is a comedy routine, but a lot of the comments are hate filled racist crap: I used to believe that all this small minded rubbish would have died out by the end of the 1980s: there really is no hope for the human race, unless we ALL lighten up; we'll all be dead soon.

  • @raynarks Totally agree. Unfortunately, Youtube seems to give people the opportunity to say things they'd normally be too cowardly to say in real life. So we get to see how just how frickin' petty they really are all to often

  • Dai oun

  • Dolgellau

  • im half danishh :)

  • lovely ... I love the Welsh accent :-)

  • I looooooooooooooove the Welsh accent so much!

  • every new line makes me want to 'like' it again

shame on him, has to take the piss out of the true welsh that can speak it...twll dyn bob sais btw :)

  • @cariadsam

Haha twll tin bob sais yn de!! Da iawn

  • @cariadsam Well then could we say that one can't be a true Irish person if they can't speak Irish Gaelic? I, myself, can speak Irish fluently but English is my mothertongue and I know many Irish who can't hardly speak Gaelic at all but I don't consider myself to be superior to them. C'mon comedians take the piss out of everyone, that's their job! ;)

  • @GaeilgeSpraoi ok well that's me told then lol, i don't like him anyway :)

  • @cariadsam LOL! So now all the welsh people are not true unless they speak it?! Oh dear...

What a guy, my primary school headteacher like !

  • Me 2. Mr James!! XD

  • I know his daughter, she went to my primary school

  • What's a sheep tied to a lamppost in Cardiff? ....

    A leisure centre.

  • i speak welsh and i live on anglesey cymru am byth!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm English, and I love Wales. I go there every year, North Wales is the most beautiful place in the world.

  • 'Do you speak Welsh?'...

    'WHY??'

LMAO....this is the exact sentiment that me and my friends share when we sit through hours of Welsh lessons...

  • He is so funny!!! I adore his accent!!! :)

  • Agreed (:

And I think the exact same thing when i'm learning Irish

Why In the name of God am i learning this. It's not like I can use it anywhere x]

  • Cymru am Byth!! Rob Brydon is amazing! And i'm intensely proud to be Welsh and to speak welsh. Wouldn't have it any other way.

  • I'm Scottish but I love the Welsh for the fact that they kept their own language, mostly because I find it funny when they speak it to purposefully exclude the English.

  • hah, tis great doing that :P

  • You sad git....enjoy your chips. There on your shoulder.

  • You're the one sounding spiteful here. I feel no real animosity towards the English. I just find it funny.

  • @GotForGimmick I like it when they do that in shops when I walk in, and then when they serve me I say "Diolch yn fawr", and they go bright red.

  • @GotForGimmick Your inferiority complex shines through like a beacon! I'm sure the melodious sound of Welshmen pitying you will bring comfort.

  • @JimShadyUK

Sense of humour by-pass? What's the big deal? I honestly didn't expect so many people to be upset by that comment. It's only gentle teasing, don't get your knickers in a twist.

  • @GotForGimmick Thats so racist! I wish my father was English, not Scottish, because your all like that, I reject my blue blood.

  • @GotForGimmick Same with the Irish. We speak Irish to piss the English off. Celtic brothers mate. Fuck the Saxons.

  • @Kopite19911

Hardly pissing me off are you, i wish you would speak your own language and stop speaking mine....

  • @Kopite19911

You dont understand do you? We hate you speaking my language. we prefer you to speak your language.

Im glad you recognised us as Saxons. Thanks

  • @Kopite19911 the stupid thing is that rob brydon is welsh and puts us down the traitor, celtic through and thropugh but not that prick!!

  • @Kopite19911 It doesn't piss us off. We don't care.

  • @Kopite19911

    *Angles

    *Vikings

    *Normans

    *Jutes

    *Insert other ethnic group

  • @Kopite19911 haha FUCK YOU im welsh 50 percent welsh a fourth english and a fourth American. but, you are kinda right we speak Irish to piss them off a lot

  • It's called a 'quarter'.

  • @TheTenderhooligan its the same fuckin' thing retard

  • @xXrollingstonerXx

The Britons were originally Celts weren't they? It was ze Germans that caused all this bitterness on these two islands!

  • @xXrollingstonerXx "Fourth american"? How is that? You have indian relatives?

  • @Travmapunk no i'm an Oregonian. Oregon,USA was where i was born

  • @xXrollingstonerXx There's no nationality as usasian or usarian))

What does it mean being fourth-american?

Fourth aztec, fourth maja, fourth navajo or fourth mohavk for christ sake?!

No, i think you weren't refering to that...

Modern north american is a bastard(social termine) society, with no roots, history or traditions...

Don't agree? Than tell me what's fourth-american? What traditions fourth american has? Dances dance? What language does a fourth american speak? English? Like ENGLAND?))

  • @Travmapunk i'm not indian

  • @xXrollingstonerXx Than don't say you're american... or even fourth-american. Cuz you don't. You are from usa. Period))

P.S. You're little hard of comprehension, are you? Either my English is bad or you be trollin' me))

Hope you got my point this time)) If not - sorry, but you're a little retarded))

  • @Travmapunk maybe you're getting a bit heated over comments. Haven't read them all, but no need to stress yoursellf about remarks from someone you don't know and aren't likely to meet. But, the USA is a melting pot of origins, and there are still many places where the speech patterns and colloquilaisms have been brought through from the early Euro inhabitants (and by that I include the UK/Eire), and in some areas they seem to have retained some indiginous/aboriginal words or expressions.

  • @madphilgreenballs And what does that supposed to have in common with subject?))

  • @Travmapunk the subject is.. you're a dick. Yes, your English is bad, based on a previous comment (or more if I could be bothered reading your tripe). You seem to have a chip on your shoulder, or maybe you just like abusing people, and doing it online is a safe way for you to do it. Boys down the pub a bit too hard for you to tackle eh? No need to call people retarded, you retard boyo. And what's with the name? Are you a punk? How old are you? What makes you a punk?

  • @madphilgreenballs "No need to call people retarded, you retard"?? LOL))! Nice move, troll))

Ever tried sex? Guess it could help you out with your 'nerd rage'!))

    Cheers fag!))

  • @Travmapunk geeez you're so funny! Laugh?! I almost did! So your 28 and probably from THE USA. I thought you might have been a teenager from your reply, but now I realise that's just your IQ range. Notice you didn't actually answer any of my questions. Why's that? Are you really 28? Hey, if you're really a punk, that means you've only got 3 moe years (give or take) before you kill yourself! Yeehah!!! Dickwad.

  • @madphilgreenballs Chill out, fag)) You sound stupid. I feel ashamed 4 you. Swear.

  • @Travmapunk still not answering my questions? Best response is to call me a fag for a 2nd time? Gee you're so eloquent, and tough. Or do you secretly like fags? Are you a closet, with not enough balls to come out in case your red-neck friends disown you? If you think you're funny or clever, your not. If you have an actual psychological or emotional issue you need to deal with, do it. Otherwise just take your gun n go on a shooting spree. See you on the news.

  • @madphilgreenballs WTF? Already 'those days' of the month for you? God damn it...!

    Menstruation is a bitch!!

When 'those days' arrive, my girl becomes a furious twat, just like you, pal, just like you...!!))

And, of course, there's also another thing that bothers you, i know... But relax, don't get mad, we all were virgins one time)) Someday it will pass... maybe...))

    Cheerios, my little angry puddle!))

  • @Travmapunk hi there. sorry for delay to your last message. i tend to have a life, so i only reply when i'm bored off my ass. i must say you're sounding more and more like my 17yo son every time. helps me to keep up with the attitude and language of the youth of today. Are you sure you're 28? come on, fess up little man. believe me, you may actually grow up one day. just enjoy your childhood while you can. talk soon PAL.

  • @madphilgreenballs Pissed off? Offended? Feel insulted by "your 17yrs old son"? I'm glad and don't give a liquid shit))

You're trying too hard to sound smart and mature, but meanwhile you're getting into 'flamewars'(how they call it here) and trying to convince us, that you "tend to have a life".

Sorry for breaking it down for you like this, but nobody cares about your sad life here. It's true.

I already forgot about this crap, but you keep on thinking about it. Have "a life" much?))

    Cheerios

  • @Travmapunk Hi my little man. Rest assured I'm never pissed off with your witicisms. They are so cute. I think about this crap every time you respond with an imbecilic childish response. Do'nt get angry that people are actually smarter than you. And generally funnier. If you don't give a crap, don't reply. Otherwise people might think you really do care. Is someone finally getting under your skin? Not nice when complete strangers give you aggro, is it?

  • @madphilgreenballs "witicisms"?))) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA))))) Embodiment of "smurt"))

    What a clown))

  • @Travmapunk sorry, once again have been busy living a life. is that a photo of you? very impressive. definitely look like a well toned stoat (ferret, rat, whatever). if that is you, it's obvious why you think yourself a hard man. never mind. maybe one day some one might take the time to explain to you what real hard men are like. but keep trying. good on you for the effort. have a good new year.

  • @GotForGimmick It's even funnier when used to exclude South Walians, it really, really, really pisses them off

  • @dimgwalltameiben Shwdi butt? Ahem! Mae'n flin geni, suuuuut maaaaeeeugh Will? gobl gobl gobl

  • @GotForGimmick "... I find it funny when they speak it to purposefully exclude the English."

    ... and the South Welsh!

  • @comenowmrbond im from the south and i can speak welsh and i know thousands of others that canso this is a bit of a stupid comment

  • @tontyb14: I know loads of people - family and friends - from South Wales, and they often joke self-deprecatingly about none of them speaking the language; also the case with Rob Brydon, noting references to Welsh speaking in, say, Gavin and Stacey.

Even had personal experience of North Welsh shopkeepers deliberately speaking Welsh as soon as they hear English being spoken by customers.

To sum up, then, you're totally wrong, as well as being humourless.

  • @comenowmrbond what you said just wasn't in any way funny therefore didn't come across as a joke so i don't think you have a right to call me humourless, idiot.

  • @tontyb14: "what you said just wasn't in any way funny"

It wasn't meant to be funny, just accurate.

    Q: What's Welsh for "idiot"?

    A: "tontyb14"

  • @comenowmrbond Read over what you said you absolute idiot your constantly going back on yourself, a na tontyb14 ddim yn Cymraeg am "idiot" felly ti'n just fod yn twp a ddyla chi bod yn ddawel, Diolch yn fawr iawn.

  • @tontyb14 Yr wyf yn poeri ar y esgidiau eich plant! Yr wyf yn eich cais Noswaith dda, grumpy bollocks

  • @comenowmrbond im form south wales, i can speak it? god, you know absolutely nothing do you? go away you pathetic mug.

  • @ohohjackarmy: If Welsh is widely spoken by the entire country, including the South, then please explain why Rob Brydon is making jokes about the need to speak Welsh and why is the audience laughing?

    Morals of this story, then:

    1. View the bloody clip.

    2. Get a sense of humour.

    [facepalm]

  • @comenowmrbond moral of the story, we need to make welsh just as important as english in Wales!

  • @nrjelley I'm trying to reintroduce Welsh back into the rest of its real homeland (England) by writing "Dim Parcio" on double yellows. So far, not much luck.

  • @GotForGimmick To be honest, we don't really care if they use their own language, to us we don't even understand it so it's a win-win situation, we think it sounds weird and funny, they are just using their language not necessarily to take the mickey but if they are oh well, they find it funny too. We like to be able to understand though.

  • I wish I was welsh...I love welsh, been there only once, wanna go back and live there eventually...have a lovely welsh wife and kids.

    Why not???

  • why does he call himself keith barret?

  • Its his stage personality. He gets jokes from the character keith barret.

  • Rob Brydon is fit!!!! something about him.

What is wrong with people making comments about where folks come from?My husband is Welsh and I am English. His Father was English.I love Wales and I love EnglandYes I had some racist comments directed at me from a member of his family and yes he had a comment from a friend of mine.basically we told the comment makers to GET A LIFE!!!! Perhaps they ought to be a psychology student like me.That will keep them busy lol.

  • I was in Wales yesterday - I had never been there before, despite being half welsh ;) I really liked it, and I don't see why people are being so damning about it. It's comparable to the French and the Bretons battling it out (I grew up in Brittany), for absolutely nothing, going around in never ending circles. How about we express our opinions and beg to differ, rather than tear others apart?

Rob Brydon is great! The Welsh Haters must like him a lot to be watching his performance! :)

  • its also the law to learn english and french,

  • ye but english is our language and french is so that we learn a difrent language

i aint saying we shud stop learning welsh im jus saying they shud give us a choice to do it or not

  • exactly and we are welsh, shows how ignorant u are? dont forget where u come from?

  • i come from scotland

  • Well, at least try to learn English so you have some method of communication with other people in the UK.

Also, I find it quite ironic that you criticise Welsh people for showing an impassive disdain for a launguage you can't even spell. It's Gaelic, not "Galick".

  • Don't you see the problem here?

You're generalising a nation of people based on personal experience. Do you not think it impossible that youve just been unlucky in being around some ignorant teenagers?

Regardless, you cant complain about being stereotyped and then proceed to stereotype Welsh people.

P.S: Galick is not shorter than Gaelic, nor does it sound the same.

  • haha you can't even spell your own freaking language

  • being welsh isnt that great. fucking shit country fucking feilds everywhere. and its right next to england lol

  • Proud to be welsh lol

  • Ouch.

  • "do you speak welsh?"

    "I do."

    "...why?"
