I object to factory farming and the cruelty often associated with that but not the eating of meat itself, since my view is that meat eating is a perfectly natural thing for humans and animals to do. It is so easy to eat a hamburger--when you are so far removed from the little calf being born then snathced from its mother, fed in an unnatural way, fattened, living in sqawler, being mistreated and then slaughtered. @7146533 We're most similar to other herbivores, and drastically different from carnivores and true omnivores. Our so-called "canine teeth" are "canine" in name only. Other plant-eaters (like gorillas, horses, and hippos) have "canines", and chimps, who are almost exclusively vegan, have massive canines compared to ours.
Our teeth, saliva, stomach acid, and intestines are most similar to other plant-eaters, and dissimilar to carnivores and true omnivores.

B12 is a contentious issue, but it's generally agreed we need between 2-3 micrograms per day, and deficiencies can take up to 20 years to develop. B12 doesn't come from meat, however; it comes from bacteria that live in soil, and there has been some research to suggest that organic produce may contain B12, but this is still ongoing.

I noticed that Morrissey said at his concert in Poland that the massacre that just happened in Norway last week with its 97 people being killed, (most of them teenagers btw) is NOTHING compared with the murders made by McDonalds and KFC, that was an idiotic statement from Morrissey and i have no longer any more respect for him. It's not that he spoke his opinion that angers me, but it was totally unnecessary to compare it with a happening that just took place, with alot of people grieving!

It is so easy to eat a hamburger--when you are so far removed from the little calf being born then snathced from its mother, fed in an unnatural way, fattened, living in sqawler, being mistreated and then slaughtered. You only see the hamburger. If you eat meat then watch the entire life of these animals before they are killed. I was in love with Morrisey at age 15 and became a veggie soon after.

A lot of people seem to be using very contradictory facts. One person says our teeth are suited to eat meat and the next person says the opposite. Obviously I haven't done any research in this subject, but I will say that just because we don't have a thick coat of fur, doesn't mean we ar more like lizards than monkeys. To say we have digestive tracts similar in length to cow and therefore we must be herbivores is stupid. Cows have four stomachs and are able to break down cellulose, we can not.

Other plant-eaters (like gorillas, horses, and hippos) have "canines", and chimps, who are almost exclusively vegan, have massive canines compared to ours.
Our teeth, saliva, stomach acid, and intestines are most similar to other plant-eaters, and dissimilar to carnivores and true omnivores.

Environmentally, animal agriculture is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emission in the world. There was enough grain grown in the US last year to feed the entire planet, but most of it went to animals to convert into ineffecient food. Yes grown crops impacts on the planet, but no where near as much as animal agriculture, especially CAFOs.

B12 is a contentious issue, but it's generally agreed we need between 2-3 micrograms per day, and deficiencies can take up to 20 years to develop. B12 doesn't come from meat, however; it comes from bacteria that live in soil, and there has been some research to suggest that organic produce may contain B12, but this is still ongoing.

@USSBN734 According to the National Corn Growers Association (a US industry body), about 80% of all corn grown in the US is consumed by livestock, poultry, and fish. It's fed as ground grain (suitable for humans), high-moisture corn (harvested early, left to ferment to feed to cattle - otherwise suitable for humans), and silage (not suitable for humans).

@USSBN734 In Australia, we grow a grain called sorghum, which is entirely suitable for human consumption. 98% of what is grown here (1.4Mt) is used exclusively in livestock feed, according to the QLD department of Primary Industries.

@shambolism The fact is that the "50-80% grain used to feed cattle" is bullshit and always has been. Less than 10% of our grain production SUITABLE for human consumption is used to feed cattle. The VAST majority of grain, legumes, and other farm products given to cattle are given only AFTER they have been used for human purposes. IE Soy used to make tofu, waste given to cattle. Corn used to make corn oil, waste given to cattle. Same for rape seed, etc.

Please read "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins and watch "Meet your Meat" narrated by Alec Baldwin. One silly myth is that we will run out of plants if we become vegetarians. Eating meat consumes much more plants and grains since tons are fed to livestock.

Uh...no. Slaughtering a cow for food is not murder. Murder is a human being killing another with malice. Not out of defense, not during war...hence the verse in Exodus: "Thou shalt not commit murder" and in Ecclesiastes: "A time to kill, a time to heal".
