Saying that it was all the U.S. is just being stupid. The U.S. chose to help defend both our nations, which is why Canada decided to demilitarize after WWII.

As for world wars, no doubt US did not play as great a role in WW1 as it did in WW2 - there is a very strong chance the Allies would have lost in WW2 without the US

In the Pacific, Allies lost almost every single battle against the Japanese and the empire growth was excelerating - All this prior to US arrival.

@ShayisWY Canada didn't really have allot of soldiers fighting the Japanese. Most of ours went to Europe. THe US performed well because they entered late, and therefore were able to bring in fresh troops and lots of equipment. The fact the war wasn't fought on American soil allowed them to produce everything they needed for war and not have to worry about factories being bombed. If America entered sooner they would not have done as well.

Prior the burning of Washington, the Yanks actually did take and destroy the capitol of Canada (present day Toronto). The Canadian militia defending York lost so badly beaten they were disbandoned and York was surrendered to the Americans.

@ShayisWY The result of the war was a status quo ante bellum, meaning that it ended basically the same way it began, with taken prisoners and lands returned to their rightful owners. I can find no evidence of the U.S being given new land. The U.S. was no more responsible for either World War ending for the Allies than any other ally. Saying that it was all the U.S. is just being stupid. The U.S. chose to help defend both our nations, which is why Canada decided to demilitarize after WWII.

Among others the US got an end to the western buffer zone, unrestricted trade with whatever other nation they wanted, expanded trade to the maritime colonies, end to impressment, etc.
As for world wars, no doubt US did not play as great a role in WW1 as it did in WW2 - there is a very strong chance the Allies would have lost in WW2 without the US

Prior to the US entering the war all of mainland Europe was lost and GB and allies were fighting a desperate defensive battle to save GB. Every attempt to retake Europe failed miserabley. In the Pacific, Allies lost almost every single battle against the Japanese and the empire growth was excelerating - All this prior to US arrival.

Note that Canada and GB prior to US arrival failed to score a single victory against the Japanese.

@ShayisWY Canada didn't really have allot of soldiers fighting the Japanese. Most of ours went to Europe. THe US performed well because they entered late, and therefore were able to bring in fresh troops and lots of equipment. The fact the war wasn't fought on American soil allowed them to produce everything they needed for war and not have to worry about factories being bombed. If America entered sooner they would not have done as well.

Also, the British were even able to fly the Union Jack over Washington in the aftermath; something far worse than a surrender by the Brits at York.
