  • UPDATE!!!

I spotted another Republic resonator at my local guitar dealer!! Its a style-O and its REAL small. Like parlor size but not too narrow and it sounds AS GOOD AS THIS ONE... wish I had $ for it and a real outlet for playing it regularly

  • i'm working to do a different approach to the slide guitar (i'm in an alternative rock band and think a slide can open up a door of new ideas) any suggestions, pointers or videos for me to check out? (i use drop d and standard tunings)

  • @ralfcaetano

    you n me both HAHA!

Thats a toughie... alternative is more technical and straight, so slide is kind of alienated in that genre for what I can imagine. Slide is more about expression and subtleties.

I play in standard tunings, too. Heck if I am playing some Allman Brothers songs where I play fingering then pull out a slide, its standard tuning. Just think penta-tonic formations and think of bar or power chords. Its how I started and can carry you far.

    Slide intonation is hard, too

  • @GGradilla - That is a Duane Allman song called "Little Martha". You can find several good versions of it on youtube. It's usually played in open "D" tuning.

  • can anybody tell me what tht song tht he is playing at 1:26????? ive been wanting to learn tht for my girlfriend for like forever and i never learned the namee.. someone help plsss!!!

  • how long have you been playing and how have you learnt? (self teach)

  • @dvdsmlprstylr

sorry its a late reply (dont get on as much any more and never for checking inboxes haha)

I have played for around 10yrs now, but not long after this vid post, I sold the guitar.

My dad showed me basic "cowboy" chords and my uncle showed me a little penta-tonic scales based on root notes and I've done everything else myself from there.

I've taken up the drums since this video, as well, totally self-taught.... I need to load some of that now!

  • @duanesslide cool

  • como se llama la guitarra?

  • Are those stock cones? My son has a Regal tricone, we replaced the cones with Quarterman and it made a huge difference.

  • so is this guitar made for the sliding?

  • hi duanesslide - i'm glad you say its about as good as the national you had, because iim prowd owner of a new republic and was a bit unsure :-)

thanks for sharing your slide, greez from switzerland!

  • @psalmenlesung

Glad to hear it! If you still have it, then Im jealous!! XD

Also, if you havent already, think about replacing the tuners because they're BAD unless they fixed it for later models.

  • Hi......Is that a Brass body or a steel body?? Beautiful sound...Thanks for posting this

  • @algentry1

I believe its brass. Yea its got an awesome sound, just about as good as the National tricones I had tried.

Had to sell it a little while back =(

  • @duanesslide It sounds god damned amazing. Great classical blues sound, just like son house himself! Great video man, keep them coming :)

  • geez, i gotta get rid of my glass slide for one of them fancy steel ones!!!

  • can u tell me plz what is the tuning u r using???

  • Open E

    E -B -E -G# -B -E

Can be neck-warping on some guitars, depending on the gauge of strings, tho, so dropping it a step is fairly safe

    D -A -D -F# -A -D

This guitar is made for it, so its fine, but some acoustic guitars I've played tuned up tend to pull hard, and get really high action (bending the neck)
