  • best emo band ever

  • makes me think of buffy

    D, ,

  • that guy singing on the sides by himself put a smile on my face, because it made me think about why i got into the hardcore scene in the first place in the late 90s because it touched a part of my heart other kind of music or subculture just couldn't it changed me forever.

  • Mineral were boss!

  • Without you here I'll wish for shoulders bold and broad to bear And strength to hold my head above them Cause I just want to be Something more than the mud in your eyes I want to be the clay in your hands Cause Gloria is silent And glory is a silent thing PT2

  • A brave morning Thoughts flap their wings and fly And I can still taste Defeat on my lips Bright tie, fish fly I have not yet arrived How can I not admit I need to know youCause I just want to be Something more than the mud in your eyes I want to be the clay in your hands Hey sorrow where are you Tomorrow just won't be the same PT1

  • These guys were sooo good live really powerful stuff!!! Cool guys too wish they made a longer run but glad I saw them live, amazing!!!

  • Wow, people really new how to have fun at shows back then, eh? Ummmmmm....

  • wow back at the jam room mineral

i love the pre verse pauses..

lol look all the emo kids know the words he says. " i want to be something more than the nut in your eyes?"

the thoughts flap their wings and fly

ha those were the days kid

  • Does Chris Simpson play in another band now? I love him.

  • @jorgefuzzomendez Nossa, legal. Pensei que só eu e a banda Gloria fôssemos fãs do Mineral. :D

  • Here in Brazil, Mineral is MINE, because nobody knows the band and I love it so much. (:

  • @carolpachecopoynter

heh I feel like that about many bands and I'm in the United States lol

  • @carolpachecopoynter Hm. I'm a Mineral fan and I'm also from Brazil, so you'll have to share it with me.

  • somebody find the guy in the sideline and tell him i'am so jealous!

  • WOW! How can this possibly have 7 votes for dislike? Really? What more could you ever possibly ask for than a groundbreaking, genre-pushing band at it's very peak? Mineral, was by and large, responsible in so many ways for so many bands that's it's impossible to count. Go vote "dislike" on something that matters not like Lady Gaga or Katy Perry or other manufactured pop garbage. This video represents a great moment in time!

  • However, in the end there can only be one: Texas Is The Reason. Best band of all during that "1990-2000 emo"-journey, in my opinion.. Only The Appleseed Cast (which isn't quite as most of the bands from that era) will reach its height.

  • @intheshadeofyou

I liked Texas is the Reason, but they were so blatantly against democratic Texans that I just stopped listening to them.

    I'm a Texan democrat.

  • @intheshadeofyou I realllly loved penfold.

  • agreed!

  • @intheshadeofyou texas is the reason hardly compares to mineral or sdre

  • @markuskentwood I guess it depends on who you're asking. It's MY favourite of the era, but both sunny day and Mineral is close behind, Mineral would be the one closer. I think they compare, but maybe not in terms of popularity.

  • Christie Front Drive didn't rip off SDRE. It's called "musical influenced by" when it sounds like this. The Appleseed Cast is not even in the category in which Mineral, SDRE, Christie Front Drive etc are in. But who cares, it's not like it really matters. Personally, I've always preferred Mineral over SDRE, mostly because Chris Simpson wrote some really good lyrics. As of both Jeremy's and Chris current projects, I prefer Jeremy's. He still plays somewhat similar.

  • This song reminds me of high school. I listened to this song every day.

  • The drummer kicks ass!

  • the people watching look so bored...I'd be going nuts if I was in there watching

  • I wonder if the fellas from Mineral realize how deeply they affected their fans, not to mention an entire generation of musicians.

  • @bradnerdr i think you've confused them with sunny day real estate.

ask any of these guys today and they'll tell you they were just ripping them off.

they did a pretty amazing job at doing so, though.

  • @almightyseancore Tomaytoe Tomaaatoe. I enjoy both either way.

  • @almightyseancore i think mineral and the gloria record are infinitely better than sdre ever was or ever could be.

  • @harodirt77 i enjoy mineral much more than sunny day as well, but that doesn't mean it's not a blatant rip off. christie front drive and appleseed cast are other examples of SDRE rip offs that did it better.

  • @almightyseancore ...And here I was thinking that I was one of the few people who knew who Christie Front Drive & Appleseed cast were...

  • I miss this band.. man i feel old

  • OH MY GOSH SO KILLER!!!!

  • Godspeed mineral!

  • music/clothes/video games were all better in the 90s :( too bad I was only 5 when this was recorded. I mainly like metal but even those bands released their best stuff in the 90s.

  • Even the old dude in the background cannot contain himself. 3:04

  • Singer is James Van Der Beek

  • Favorite band ever. listening to mineral still gives me the same feeling as i first listened to them

  • love

  • I think I had to buy 3 copies of this cd... played it so much. Such a big influence on me musically.

  • THUMBS UP to the guy on the sideline singing along! If only he knew how cool he would be 15 years from then.

  • @Stopher804 I probably looked the same when I went to a gig alone after a messy break up with a chick.

  • @Stopher804 that man singing is donny darko!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Stopher804 is he a singer nowadays? if you know anything? :)

  • @imalwayswatchingu00 Dood I wish man, that guy fucking rules!

  • i believe this was 96 and possibly in tucson arizona. i think i remember getting real sick in L.A. for over a week this tour, but we were gone for like 200 days that year. man, it doesn't even seem like it was my life anymore. gw

  • @TheHellawaitsyou That's so cool, Mr. Wiley! thanks for getting on YouTube and giving us all this info!

  • @TheHellawaitsyou Where at in Tucson man? I live here but I was too young when you were still around. Its weird I've watched this a countless amount of times but I never knew it was here.

  • @OkCorral When/where was this? Did they play more than Gloria? Also, where did you get this video? Thanks for any info you have, in advance.

  • i have his autograph on a zookeeper 7". really cool guy when i met him.

  • reminds me of sonic youth

  • @petrolhead1845598 If you say so. Sonic Youth did play a big part in no wave and noise rock, but dissonance isn't exactly the defining feature of Sonic Youth. It's your call. I just don't really see it.

  • this band used to rule my heart like few others back in the day. thank you for providing me with hours of perfect sounds that soothed my unattainable romantic ideals and melancholic heart <3

  • my taste music has went from scene crap to early 2000 post hardcore now its also in the early mid 90s range its like traveling back in time

  • This band has changed the way I write music, God bless Chris Simpson.

  • One of my favorite bands... I was lucky enough to be in my teens during the mid 90's in Austin... Lived just 5 minutes from Emo's... Great bands, with Mineral jumpstarting the "Post-emocore" scene... Saw them several times... My favorite show being when the played with Jimmy Eat World and Sensefield in 97 (I think)... Best summer of my life.

  • @joaquincali do you know where or have a copy of the 3-way split between jimmy eat world/sense field and mineral?

  • @rouenea Actually, at that show I got that 7" split... I still have it. It has an awesome cover of "Crazy" by Mineral. Great record. I have no idea where to get it, but I'm sure you can find it online somewhere.

  • @3rdcoasthorn dang, that sucks. this band is good, old school jimmy eat world is badass. i have everything from 1991 to 1998 era. holla back if you want a link to the website i found it on. it also has a live version of the whole clarity album.

  • @rouenea By the way... This is joaquincali, I just responded under my other account...

  • happy feedback (: it was like "hey you got a camera?" you should tape the show tonight lol. I own the only other copy of one of their live performances its beautiful cant wait to convert it to youtube.

  • inspiração da banda glória do brasil

  • Fuck this is awesome. I really wish I was a teenager when this kind of music was around. Just look at everyone at this show, including the band. They all just look like regular guys. No trends, or bullshit. Nowa days you go to a show and everyone is following some gay trend.

  • @Guitbox24 thank you. i couldnt have said that any better. your rt i wish was 20 back then instead of now

  • @squire456

Yeah I was into Sunny Day Real Estate in the later 90's but I missed so many other great bands.

  • @Guitbox24

(btw) You are right man. I've said that before about this kinda music. American Football/Sunny Day Real Estate etc it is just some guys singing and playing great songs. It wasn't about a clothing style.

  • @Guitbox24

That's because this is real music, not some washed up over produced mainstream horse shit. Real music written by real people who care about what they play and who listens and not how much money they make.

  • @Guitbox24 There were trends in the 90s just as there are today. People can't seem to be happy with the music they have. Teenagers 10 years from now will be complaining about their music and revering ours.

  • @hundredand fuckin' eh

  • @Guitbox24 They were probably following a trend back then too. Teenagers and young people have been following trends since the the 60s

  • @BetNoire That is true, however the trends did not seem as obnoxious haha.

  • @Guitbox24 nah man they look like 90s emo people loook at the hair, the ringers, the thriftstore tees, the wallet chains, the old shool vans, they were following the trend in the 90s.

  • @Guitbox24 Hey, there were plenty of mainstream showing off trends back then. Same as now. Besides, nobody's forcing you to follow some trend I guess. Personally I don't fuc*in care about this whole mainstream thing. If I like some kind of music I listen to it, If I like some clothes I buy it etc. Make your own decisions and create your own style. Peace!

  • @Guitbox24 I've been saying this since, well, these guys were around. T-shirts, jeans and MF rock n roll.

  • @Guitbox24 I was a teenager when these bands were around..and my friends and I bitched about not being around in the early 80s when a lot of the bands we liked were first popular. Not that we didnt like stuff like this..it just doesnt seem "classic" when its current. Enjoy the now, there are still plenty of bands like this. And trust me..this stuff was a "trend" then, with a certain aesthetic and attitude that people adhered to.

  • @Guitbox24 I was a part of this scene, and by that, I mean that I was a part of the music that made this scene. We had a band, put on shows DIY style, played with Mineral, Jimmy, Sense Field, Hot Water Music...you name it...and it was amazing because it was always about the music. Then...one day...it was about something else. It's sad, and I haven't been a part of it since.

  • @Guitbox24 yes, gayness is so trendy... so is being retarded, i guess....

  • @thesearewarningsigns Thats obviously not what I meant... Come on

  • @Guitbox24 then what did you mean, it's not as obvious as you might think, apparently.

  • wish i could've been alive to be part of the scene

  • The glory days, I fear.

  • perfect

  • why the fuck was i born in 95...?

  • This song and performance from 15 years ago is the perfect example of why rock and the music industry in general is dead. You will never see another wave of bands like Mineral/Promise ring/Cap'n Jazz/JoanofArc again. It makes me sad that this period of music is over and that it happened so long ago. I'm 30 now, and hearing and seeing this video makes me feel so much older.

  • algernon cadwallader, snowing, suis la lune, raein, daitro, there's a ton of bands holding shit down still.

  • Was Chris is any bands before Mineral?

  • i wish the sound was better

  • Why can't have the 90's garage band era back when everyone wanted to be part of a movable chord flinging, emotional lyric writing, loud ass drumming band that kicked ass? Ugh...

  • What a great fucking song. Awesome.

  • personally, my favorite band of all time.

  • the guy in the front row singing along almost looks like a young Dan Andriano =] I love this song and I love this band! thanks for posting it =]

  • Great song but the drummer is really sloppy in this video.

  • gai

  • I was one year old. Gah. I missed out.

  • Same.

  • i was two!

  • @zenjoiable wow. it's cool kids you're age are hearing about these guys for the first time. i hope their legacy lives on.

  • im pretty sure Chris lives in austin still

  • i wonder where are they now?

  • @boypaslot I don't know about the rest of them, but Chris has been making music under the name Zookeeper for a while now since The Gloria Record broke up.

    Check out zookeepersworld on myspace.

  • chris' new project zookeeper is pretty amazing.

i just wish mineral would have a reunion...

  • just watching the best band in the world perform.

  • Silly question, but I bought The Power of Failing, and many of the lyrics seem to point to a Christian or at least spiritual influence.

Does anyone know if they are Christian?

  • @landminemarathon

Yeah, they're Christian (several songs on their second album openly praise Jesus). Don't let it discourage you though, they're music is amazing. Definitely pick up their second album (it's different but better in some ways).

  • Oh, quite the contrary, it's beautiful music and it doesn't deter me in the least. Mostly due to the fact that I myself am a Christian. I think it's amazing that they openly praise Jesus.

  • @landminemarathon

Me too, and I'm an atheist. It's just so sincere that I can't help but respect them for it.

  • That's what draws me to this music the most, the sincerity of their lyrics and the emotion with which Simpson sings. This is perfect worship music, actually.

I am listening to the second album at this moment.

I will be honest, it's been a long time since I have heard music that moves me like this.

  • @landminemarathon

    does it matter?

  • Does what matter? Their religion? Not really. I was just curious because of the lyrical content, is all.

  • Dunno for sure, I saw a video of them playing in church and they were on fire...

  • They Said once that we are Christians in a band not a Christian band but much of our lyrics are spiritual Bands like Mineral and sunny day real estate were shunned from the Christian music scene even thou they sung songs inspired by their spirituality and faith I guess the Catholics didnt like them because they didnt molest children

  • How did I just find out about this band?! So good.

  • so good. ugh

  • it is fowl's

My god look how young they are. I grew up in houston in the mid80's threw 2000's and i thought only we knew about this band. First time i went on tour with my band "My Luck" i found out how wrong i was.

seems like everyone loved this band.

  • youwereinmyluck?!

  • lol yes...if you saw a tall skinny guy with long hair always with them that would be me.

  • hahahnoway!!!!!!

    ihave

    youralbum

    onitunes!

  • amazing, thanks for keeping the scene alive!

    =P

  • Broken space bar?

  • yeah....

    idonthaveajobtopayforit....

    livingoffofmomrightnow...

    imonly16

  • we still do.. in places you never heard of :)

  • right on

  • YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Woo!

  • Armor for Sleep "remember to feel real" jacked this rift and bleed note...can't blame them Mineral Rocks out! When i was in High shool i blasted Mineral alll the time!!!

  • Haha.

I read the video info and that is my name: Chris Simpson. Unfortunately, I am not a part of a really awesome band like Mineral :(

  • If you look close enough, you can see an 18 year old me in the audience at this show. Goddamn, I still love this band.

  • Oh, which one are you?

  • If you were asking me that, I'm the guy with the long hair standing in front of (technically, immediately to the right of) the guy in all white with the white backwards baseball cap. You don't get to see much more than the top half of my face tho, because of the guy with the black baseball cap in front of me.

  • Are you the guy with the black hair at 0:57 or is that someone else?

  • Yeah, the tall guy with long black hair between the two guys with baseball caps.

  • nice song jah bless

  • one of the best songs the band T_T

I am enrolled in a forum of people emo (posers) ago Convens them and insult to tell possers, false emos, etc to make them understand that they are like 90s emo

  • Comment removed

  • really? i always thought it went "THOUGHTS flap their wings and fly."

Didn't know it was wings flap their wings....seems kind of impossible considering that they would be the last band to write something so redundant as that. Which means you are obviously wrong.

  • thanks for correcting me.

  • it's FOULS flap their wings ang fly, as in birds

  • no, it's THOUGHTS.

  • besides the fact that i have known chris since 1989 and happen to know that it is fouls (which means birds by the way), thoughts makes no sense in the context of the song. don't want to argue, but it is fouls without a boubt

  • i believe you.

could it be 'fowl' though? i've never heard of a 'foul', apart from the technical type.

  • absolutely, you're right it is spelled fowls, i.e. birds

  • I don't believe that. 'Thoughts' makes perfect sense in the context of the song, because I would say most of Simpson's lyrics aren't literal. He was being figurative. Of course it'd make no sense literally.

  • @OkCorral yeah if you think about it, he's talking about basketball courts

  • @jonaholaf Well if you are so sure you are right, you should go correct every lyric site on the internet for this song.

  • @jonaholaf fowl= bird, foul = penalty in basketball etc.

  • @OkCorral i always thought it was "thoughts" too.

  • @jonaholaf Thoughts... not fouls lol

  • -if you look at old fugazi interviews, you would know how much they despised being labled as emo, after all, doesn't all music require a bit (or a lot) of emotion to be created? i think it's the stereotype that turns a lot of people off. sure, it's great to feel and okay to be sad but don't pigeon-hole really talented people with a label, why can't music just be what it is? i love this band about as much as i first did in the 90's. i am grateful i got to see the gloria record. so very good.

  • bright tieeeeeeee fish flyyyyyyyy huhu

  • Ahh, good Emo man

  • i like seeing people in the crowd sing along to these songs back then.

  • these guys were amazing

  • @lightthiscity11 they still are

  • this footage is historical

knowing this show was filmed almost 15 years ago gives me creeps

  • *switch guitar guy with bass guy

  • There's such a contrast between all the members. Chris looks really into it, guitar guy is rocking out, bass guys kinda looks asleep, the drummer is having spasms, lol.

  • ha ha drummer spasms is right!!

  • Does anyone know what type of guitar and amp Scott has?

  • well, as far as guitars go, it looks like he's playing either a Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway, or a PRS SE. I can't tell because there isn't really a good shot of the headstock.

  • I'm pretty sure it's a PRS because on the Emo's show you can see his guitar better. I know it's not a Les Paul because the head-stock is different.

  • PRS SE's didn't even exist when Mineral was a band.

  • its a Hamer Sunburst (sparkly gold PRS looking guitar),With a seymour duncan in the bridge I think (its zebra striped),and I think its a JCM 800 ampwise, not sure of cab though.

    hope this helps.

  • Yeah, if you look at band band pictures on the Crank! Records site, it appears he used a Hamer guitar with a Marshall JCM800 or 900 head into a Bogner cab.

  • Comment removed

  • I cant find any of their songs on itunes!!

    :(

  • Both of their albums are up on iTunes.

Maybe you typed in Gloria instead of Mineral?

  • Thanx!! i didnt type in gloria instead of mineral by the way!! i just wasnt looking properly!!! hehe! great video !

  • Thats when you know its real music :D

  • There's something about this song... it's great.

  • yeah? they're my 2nd favorite band

get up kids is the best!

  • I was at this show

  • Mineral for the f'ing win

  • This was at 403 Chaos. Tampa, FL.

  • Oh ok thanks man. Do you know if there were other songs filmed or just this one?

  • "'Cause Gloria is silent

    And glory is a
