At 4:45, the officer says that he is on the guys side for carrying a pistol... um.......... what? No your not. And then he says that he should have carried it concealed? So wait a minute here... It's ok to walk around concealed next to the stadium, but not openly? Doesn't the law state it the other way around? And your not in the stadium, so why does it even matter? The police just make up all the excuses they can! wow... just because they can't be wrong.

I wouldn't carry openly, but it is certainly legal. That said, I have even heard of cops charging OCers with public disturbance. I can even see them requesting I leave the area, but to take his gun? No way!

This is the problem with these "gun free zones". Unless you have neon signs saying that it is such, how can anyone reasonably be able to "abide" by these "laws". The 2nd amendment doesnt say anything about "you may only carry in this zone, or in that building". It merely says that you have the "right to bear arms".

If you have a CPL and you open carry, you can actually carry into most "gun free zones" in Michigan. So he wasn't in violation of that rule anyway.

If the police wants people CC, the law should be changed to something like this: "fill out the form, we run a NICS and you get the CCW permit. It's $10, have a nice day".

the reason we are losing our rights is because we are hiding them. the public never sees a responsible gun owner with their gun, and that nothing bad came of it. they see only what the media, and the music/ movie industry wants them to see.

think about it. We are not trying to provoke anyone. My CPL is currently on suspension because of a similar incident in which the cops diddnt know the law, and if not for open carry, I would be unarmed.

At some point it must be recognized that freedom of speech (OC'ing) to make a political statement may not be enough in some municipalities. At some point legal action must be pursued. If not, we will continue to be violated without fear of reprisals. At some point public servants must be spanked in order to drive the legal point home. Nothing hurts more than a landmark monetary judgment against the government in violation of the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Amendments.

The DPD is notorious for harassing people whom legally open carry, that's why I wont OC in Detroit.  My view is, CC if you have the permit, to avoid things like this.

Many people do choose to OC in the D to prove the point that open carry is legal, and what the DPD is doing is wrong. My thanks to those people.

besides being misinformed, those officers and especially the supervisor, were actually professional and reasonable compared to others experiences with detroit police. glad the charges were dropped.
