Jordan was far more athetlic than kobe so he didn't rely on his shooting ability as much as kobe does now. Jordan's defense was also better, Jordan is a better all around player. Period.

Also check out Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals in 1993. He had 54 points on 6-10 from 3 point land against one of the best defensive teams in the NBA history.

These numbers should mean something unless you believe that 1.) Jordan played against unathletic and short players or 2.) Zone defense is superior to modern day defense.

@animebrawler I hate it when people say things like Jordan's era was better. More physical doesnt necessarily mean better. All it really tells me is that defenders were disadvantaged so they had to find a way to make themselves look good defensively. Hand checking is overrated. Even during Jordan's era, they let minimal handchecking slide but they would call a foul if it was just blatant physicality.

There were almost 6 teams THIS SEASON ALONE that scored less than 100. Handchecking wouldnt affect Kobe like a lot of people try to make it seem. Handchecking is effective against flat out slashers. a la Wade, Lebron. Kobe is more of a jumpshooter now. Plus people forget handchecking was legal in 2003. The same year Kobe averaged 30 7 and 6.

@animebrawler And yes Kobe was a slasher when he was younger but he was still a great shooter even then. Jordan destroyed teams like the Bad Boy Pistons and the Knicks (2 of the greatest teams of all time)-which leads me to believe that handchecking him didnt work. Why? Because he was still able to get to the line 8 or 9 times despite the physicality and he was a great jumpshooter. The same instance w/ Kobe. Great shooter, great at creating contact.

@animebrawler Kobe obviously benefits from the no handchecking rule. But as an earlier poster said, Jordan benefitted from being able to handcheck. Jordan was a hell of a defender and most people making the argument for him being better than KB will use the defense argument. But I bet its a hell of a lot easier to get steals when you can do what would be considered a foul today. Defense at the SG position is about moving your feet. Anticipating. Helping.
