"I walked in Montgomery. I sat in Tennessee. Now I'm riding for equality. Hallelujah I'm a travelin, Hallelujah ain't it fine. Hallelujah I'm a travelin down freedom's main line."
I think one of the main issues is there are so many different versions of this song. I looked it up in several places and it seems they made it up as they traveled on the buses in 1961. The version done in the Freedom Riders documentary is not the so called "official" one. Maybe that's why they hesitate to release it. There were a few lines throughout the show but never the entire song. I think the Freedom Riders producers made it up too. Their version is GREAT though. Love it!
Hi Guys, for those who are wondering, i wrote to pbs customer service to see if they have a soundtrack to the freedom riders documentary and they do not. They also do not intend to produce it, which is dissapointing but atleast they responded. They said "We have researched your request number 7257705, and have found that the soundtrack for American Experience's "Freedom Riders" is not something that is going to be produced". I also wrote to Oprah (still waiting for a response) :-) LOL :-)
I found the answer...... "Hallelujah, I'm A Traveling"
