As many of the coments below state. When your praying, your prayers dont deactivate till -1 prayer to say. See every round prayer is drained. 1 to 0 prayer coveres ur prayer problem for that round. They deactivate when it tries to go from 0 to -1. Still lucky timing for your whip's sake ^.^

After your prayer drop, it takes a second or two for your pray to deactivate, if she hadnt of killed you on the second spec, and killed you on the third, your would of lost your whip because your pray would of had enough time to deactivate.
