  • your point contact diode is working fine. It's not for tuning. To "tune' to different freq, you need to connect to the coil at different places. remove a strip of insulation on the coil and connect at different places

  • That radio has very good sound!

  • @CassetteMaster Thanks but it was cause I used an amp so people on youtube could hear it I tired it with head phones and it works but I could not get it loud enough for my camera mic to pick it up so I used a amp and speaker to demo it

  • Years ago we used an old oatmeal box with 100 turns of wire. The detector was a nickle and it was tuned to stations by sliding a cleaned and bent piece of metal coat-hanger across a cleaned spot in a section of the coil.

There is also one that uses a block of wood bit longer than a cigarette box for the coil.

  • I really liked this video.

  • @UNIVERSITYHI Thanks for the cool comment!!!! Don't get many anymore on Youtube

  • who or what were you electrocuting at the end of the video :)

  • @XRayCam Wow you got a pretty fast eye LOL ! that was my tesla coil video on my dv camcorder that I forgot was on there

  • Did you also make a video that shows how you actually took the time to do that, your methods, for the newbies? It would be very educational. Nice job.

  • The music is almost as creepy as your voice.

  • @BackyardAmusement Thanks for your kind comment

  • could i hook this up to a crank/generator powered radio

  • @pyroman675

    I don't know about that.

  • does this tune only to 1490 because of the wire length? can that be adjusted with a sliding resistor thing?

  • the ground wire is hilarious, and what was the pop thing at the very end?

  • Cool man!

  • Wow Dude you should try for narrator of movies or something I'm not trying to offend you offend you or nothing... seriously

  • Nice radio....

By the way the two nice songs you picked up were

    1.Rita Coolidge - We're All Alone

2.Dionne Warwick - That's what friends are for....

    +5:)

  • it sounds like your moaning

  • you tried harness ing this device to power something like a led or mini fan?

  • What band that you hear? FM? AM?

I want ti hear VHF band :P

  • Sometimes you'll get a better volume if you put a resistor across the earphone.

I'd say use about 100,000 ohms.

  • put a Diode in the Circuit from your Antenna you should get better signal.

your Radio just has power to turn that Weak signal into blasting sound.

    Remember

    Frequency Modulation and Amplitude Modulation.

also try a longer Antenna Wire but no longer then 50 feet. Isolating the Wire and having it up as high as possible also will Improve your Signal

  • I hope AM never dies. I have built so many of these radios over the years, never the same one twice. Kids love them. I work with many EE's that had never heard of Crystal sets. Got them hooked as well.

  • did you ever think about tuning it to other stations by but a piece of metal on the coil after you take a piece of sandpaper to wear the metal touches the coil works great to change stations

btw great job with the amp it really helped but would have been better for demo to show it with headphones but great thinking

  • hey were can i get a razor for my foxhole radio ?

  • from barber shop

  • so it wont work with ordinary speaker/headphone ? ????

  • I did get it to work with headphones but the volume was so low I could no show that it worked

  • just use amplifier and it will work

  • wow! I live your equipment! Foxhole radio too!

  • Thanks for comment and I know for sure the big power supply thats under the amp I used on this radios is old it has tubes in it.

    Tom G

  • VAI ENERGIA ?

  • instead of a razor blade i used a penny

  • Did you have to heat it up?

  • nope

  • Great!sounds very clean!Nice song too..

  • YA it surprised me too as to how good it sounded even with some bass in there too.

  • Did you have to blue the razor blade?

  • Yes I used a small propane torch.

  • what 2 songs were playing in your radio?

  • Not sure

  • the first is: Rita Coolidge: we're all alone.

I don't know the second but it is too famous....

  • second one is dionne warwick - that's what friends are for. Great foxhole radio btw, seems that with good ground you don't need a very large antenna.

  • No battery's it runs on the radio waves it picks up.

  • good invention!!!!!!!!!!! will it die?

  • hello my name is Tom enjoy and list your foxhole

radio. I made one too. My question is I ran mine thru a guitar amp and evey time I touch the lead to get the station in better. I got a lot of feed back. your amp sounded really good. can you give me some tips. My grandson and me are going to build one once I get the bugs out..............thank you Tom

  • I can only guess that your antenna might be to short! Mine is about 10 to 15 feet long as for the feed back is your amp grounded good?

  • hey i live in batavia do you fix radios 8trax or tvs?I have a few jobs.I remember makin a chrystal radio in high school.

  • Hmm I don't know how much help I would be I kind of learned everything on my own and I'm still a newbie when it comes too fixing things like this. What kind of jobs do you have?

  • an amp that needs a volume control i think its a nice amp.

  • Maybe sometime I will get this radio out and better document it and recored the radio station this time only with the headphones and no amp I did it in my first video but it didnt turn out well.

  • is that a chrystal radio??

  • Nope everything that makes it work is on the piece of wood!

  • boooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hate it man it stincks

  • To each him own

  • Pritty sharp idea useing ground wire of electrical system. Damn SHARP.

    4 Stares Bud.
