your point contact diode is working fine. It's not for tuning. To "tune' to different freq, you need to connect to the coil at different places. remove a strip of insulation on the coil and connect at different places
@CassetteMaster Thanks but it was cause I used an amp so people on youtube could hear it I tired it with head phones and it works but I could not get it loud enough for my camera mic to pick it up so I used a amp and speaker to demo it
Years ago we used an old oatmeal box with 100 turns of wire. The detector was a nickle and it was tuned to stations by sliding a cleaned and bent piece of metal coat-hanger across a cleaned spot in a section of the coil.
There is also one that uses a block of wood bit longer than a cigarette box for the coil.
Did you also make a video that shows how you actually took the time to do that, your methods, for the newbies? It would be very educational. Nice job.
I hope AM never dies. I have built so many of these radios over the years, never the same one twice. Kids love them. I work with many EE's that had never heard of Crystal sets. Got them hooked as well.
did you ever think about tuning it to other stations by but a piece of metal on the coil after you take a piece of sandpaper to wear the metal touches the coil works great to change stations
btw great job with the amp it really helped but would have been better for demo to show it with headphones but great thinking
radio. I made one too. My question is I ran mine thru a guitar amp and evey time I touch the lead to get the station in better. I got a lot of feed back. your amp sounded really good. can you give me some tips. My grandson and me are going to build one once I get the bugs out..............thank you Tom
Hmm I don't know how much help I would be I kind of learned everything on my own and I'm still a newbie when it comes too fixing things like this. What kind of jobs do you have?
Maybe sometime I will get this radio out and better document it and recored the radio station this time only with the headphones and no amp I did it in my first video but it didnt turn out well.

does this tune only to 1490 because of the wire length? can that be adjusted with a sliding resistor thing?
mojokiss 1 year ago
the ground wire is hilarious, and what was the pop thing at the very end?

Sometimes you'll get a better volume if you put a resistor across the earphone.
I'd say use about 100,000 ohms.

put a Diode in the Circuit from your Antenna you should get better signal.
your Radio just has power to turn that Weak signal into blasting sound.
Remember
Frequency Modulation and Amplitude Modulation.
also try a longer Antenna Wire but no longer then 50 feet. Isolating the Wire and having it up as high as possible also will Improve your Signal

second one is dionne warwick - that's what friends are for. Great foxhole radio btw, seems that with good ground you don't need a very large antenna.
