I'd say I like this concept very much (especially when the motherboard I want has a rather unfriendly BIOS) but I wish it was more cross-platform. Why couldn't this be embedded into the CMOS itself or be available on Mac OS X and Linux?
Having said that I will definitely use it when necessary on my computer's Windows partition, but the fact you have to boot into an OS to change the BIOS kind of defeats the point of the BIOS itself. Needless to say Gigabyte's standard BIOS could be better!
The BIOS should not be for "easy changes" and marketing gimmicks like touch. You should provide mouse support but most importantly, provide DETAILED DOCUMENTATION to each function. That's where your efforts should be placed...
You guys wasted time using a windows MessageBox... This overall idea and interface works very well with the Windows 8 plan, it's similar to a metro-style app, but then you're gonna have to reprogram it all for that as soon as it's fully released!
Yeah this is a bit dumb, just get a mouse pointer for the BIOS and a GUI and you're set. None of this fucken touch screen shit, touch screen is smudge time for monitors, who the hell has a touch screen for the main PC anyway? WHO? this is spastic
I downloaded this from their website; they do have text now. I don't see option to change my important voltages though.... maybe it's because I just flashed and have to restart still.
The purpose of (U)EFI isn't to provide a pretty interface -- rather, it's a replacement for the ancient BIOS as a low-level system firmware. It lets you boot from disks greater than 2 TB and load small programs among other things. Although I'd love to have a clickable UI, the functionality should come first.
Why do people refer to EFI as "EFI BIOS"? It's like referring to a flash drive as a "USB floppy disk."
BIOS looks great. Funny all the pompous/superior comments from people who hate change. Assuming that Touch bios isn't "solid" or that it can't do what an old-fashioned bios can do. It seems there are many complainers in this world who complain for no real reason. They resent change. I am glad to see the old bios replaced with something far more capable.
No on-the-fly modifications? Sill need to reboot to apply changes? That's a HUGE let down :(.... I hope those new Z68 comes with an application that let you change everything on the fly, within Windows. Then when you are done, you use the pretty BIOS application and set everything ALL OVER AGAIN.
I hope the old BIOS interface is still accessible at boot if you overclock to high and can't get into windows to use the pretty application.
I propably won't even install this software, but to all the people talking about lack of UEFI: Lack of UEFI is nothing important, at least for me. I'd rather have a well build board with a proper BIOS and all the settings I could ever want, than a piece of.. poo with shiny, user friendly UEFI
@BKSeoul Those are custom-made cases; can't be purchased off-the-shelf. Companies like GIGABYTE get other companies to produce these cases to help them better show off the components at trade shows and the like.
The only problem I have with the skin over the top of a general user interface look of mobo utilities is that they end up breaking good UI and UX principles. This idea is a big violator of it. Lose the over the top skins and pair it back to basics. I'd like to see it in a tree style interface similar to AMD Catalyst or the Nvidia drivers.
Seems very niche as I'd never bother with a touch screen on a desktop, it's very non-ergonomic for starters.
Plus it's not that new. I have a 486 board from ~1996 that uses a mouse / keyboard driven "gui" bios that doesn't suffer from what is shown in this video, and what seems to be becoming the "norm", that is hiding everything. I don't want submenus to menus for one option, I want everything in that category listed straight up. I shouldn't have to "navigate", I should be right bloody there.
Touch BIOS? Really? Somehow I don't see system admins, or anyone that knows how to use the BIOS in the first place, complaining that it's not touch-friendly enough.
OS + Software access to the BIOS sounds like a fantastic way to enable a virus to change voltage settings to dangerous configurations, so the next time you reboot, your CPU, RAM, and GPU explode from an overvolt; or the reboot fails when the motherboard shorts out and fries itself. Good going guys. Hope you have some fantastic extended warranties on those motherboards.
This is nothing more than lipstick on the old EasyTune program. Gigabyte still does not have a true UEFI setup and unfortunately this TouchBIOS is touching me in all the wrong places now. Time for change as it appears Gigabyte is more interested in marketing ideas than functionality for the user. To top it off, I bet it will be buggy as hell.
@gigabyteG1 Your post needs work. All the board makers are getting in to the UEFI BIOS. Some are better than others and at least different. But, none of them are currently perfect. But, if you were as skilled as you think you are, you wouldn't have wasted your time posting this.
Do yourself a favor and do some proper research before spouting off your useless rhetoric with your brand new noob account. (At least have the guts to use your real name rather than cower behind an alias.) That is all.
@Kahnivorous : Hypocrisy - the act of persistently pretending to hold beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually hold. In other words stop using an alias to hide yourself before accusing someone else of doing it. As for this TouchBIOS, do some investigation before your next post. It is nothing more than a Windows Utility (basically EasyTune) with some lipstick on it. Gigabyte does not have a true UEFI. Hybrid-EFI is nothing but marketing speak.
The nice thing about most every UEFI BIOS is that they can easily be modified, or changed. It helps if you comment on something in particular. For example, these changes might make it better: Label each icon (maybe provide a quick description for each), provide more description for each sub-tabs settings, and make sure the BIOS manual has all that information. Like all motherboards out there, we have to read the manual at some point.
haha, now the Apple crowd can more easily fry their "friend's" PC. On a more serious note, I was impressed thinking "nice use of UEFI" until I saw the Windows 7 taskbar. "They're running win7 embedded? oh wait no this is a mockup... right?"
Then it dawned on me that no, this is just another Windows bios tweak utility. But hey, at least now you have an idea to torment the firmware guys to write!
Notice how the icons don't have any titles or descriptions? PEOPLE HATE THAT SHIT! You're providing users with generic symbols expecting them to know what those symbols represent. Of the seven icons on your screen I can identify a USB symbol, a power symbol, and I assume the lock is for security settings. But who knows what the other four are!? Wow... a rocket and next to it what appears to be the symbol for the planet Vulcan.
If you really want it to be user friendly, include text labels!
You can use your mouse and keyboard with Touch BIOS. The key differentiator is that it employs icon based navigation so it is as simple to navigate as your iPhone.
@timhandleygbt Icon-based navigation makes it more difficult to use, because there are no text labels that describes what the icons represent, and I don't know what those disambigious confusing icons represent.
@Frap357 Yeah, there are a lot of comments about no text identifiers for the icons, so there will be a revised version this week with labels. Thanks for the constructive comments.
this was meant for " people who are not regular PC DIY users" so stop complaining
but anyway, still if people don't know how to use the original Bios (and/or new to PC DIY), they shouldn't use the feature at all, they can kill the whole rig...
Different icons means I have to lea n what they are. Since this is an Appl that runs from a Windows desktop, it can crash You still need to restart Windows for the settings to take. What's the difference between restarting your computer and restarting Windows?
You should spend your resources on finishing the UEFI BIOS!!!!
Nice idea for newest people on bios config, but for advance users is still better the old school metod, because of the windows mode can interrupt your configs, and because an advanced OCer. knows old bios perfect, to config in 10.sec all settings only with KB.
So it's usable through windows, most people prefer going to the bios itself so that nothing in windows would interrupt what you are doing and destroy your entire pc in the process..
It's good, but I still prefer a mouse or keyboard (personally of course :P)
Personally though, I don't care about GUI BIOS' though. Yes, they're more appealing - but if I can get what I want to do to work, I'm not bothered as to the visuals.

This isn't a BIOS its a UEFI, the new replacement for the BIOS.
It's not in Windows as jozuemf stated, it's not an app.
Each motherboard manufactuer has their own unique take on the UEFI.
(see /watch?v=ppRzv1tKRyE)
It's been a long time in coming, I remember talking about some of these features many years ago.
