@TurboFuss1 Russians don't need bridges. They are amphibious. They can travel miles and miles of river and ocean.... If you know about the NVA victory in the Battle of Lang Vei you should know the advantage of amphibious vehicles. The PT-76 and BTRs totally defeated the American established in there including Green Berets.

13 weeks training during the summer of 1997 at Bovington. All 5 of us were still drunk every morning, we put the most soba man in to drive first. The nights in Wheymouth and Poole were brilliant. All 5 of us had a single bunk, we would have to get rid of the girls in the morning. We always broke down, we had a fire and we filled up with water by moving too fast in the water. Driving the AVRE in the closed down position at night was a good laugh. Only the engineers could put me on tanks at 6'7".

The hydraulics and rams for the Bridgelayer were designed by APPH Ltd in the UK(I work for these people now). The tank itself was the base design of the Chieftain MBT designed in the UK and was deployed in the early 70's to the Engineer Armoured Squadrons during the 1970's. I don't really know where the US involvement was in the design of this vehicle. I went through Driver to Vehicle Mechanic Instructor...
