If we are going to consider really esoteric explanations (such extraterrestrial craft) we have to rule out all conventional explanations. The suggestion that it is a type of blimp is worth taking seriously. It would explain the huge size of the UFO and the high rate of accelation (being light and buoyant - and probably unpiloted and under remote control - it would require little power to accelerate to top speed. I merely play the devil's advocate.
